Budget price tags and audiophile gadgets rarely go hand in hand, but once in awhile you will find some surprise hits which perform great without burning a hole in your pocket.

And nope, what I'm sharing here isn't the Xiaomi Piston (which are great) and nor is it the Koss PortaPro (which are amazing), but something you've probably never heard of, the Venture Electronics Monk Plus IEM.

These earphones reportedly sound better than Apple Earpods (Linus's opinion) and are super cheap — at just $5 USD each (plus $2.67 shipping), they'll make your iBuds look like something you bought from the Reject shop.

    They are not sturdy (my left unit has been popping out of the shell) and they are kinda flimsy (duh, look at the price). With that price, it sounds alright and I think the flimsy-ness can be forgiven.

    Though, unless you use cashback, it has been at that price point ever since. So depending on whether you like Cashback services, you might be better off waiting until AUD gets stronger.

      I did think about putting as forum post, although just as likely somebody will eventually post it as a deal.

      I don't think the price will budge on these cheap devices ever.

        Eh, I don't think there would have been a better time for this to be posted as a deal (Cashback did make it cheaper than usual).

        I agree that it's probably going to stay at that price until they discontinue it (they didn't change the price even during the 11/11 events). They even flaunt its price point so yeah.

      My pair of monk+ have lasted longer then my piston 3's and i abuse them a lot more, guess ymmv with stuff like this.

        True, ymmv. Usually cheap ones cut down on QC first, maybe that's why.

    The Monk Plus sounds really airy and flat.

    It's not like the original Monk's soundstage.

    In light of this, I wouldn't recommend it anymore. I did buy the ones from Massdrop because they look so much better but they are basically the same as the purple/transparent Monk Plus.

    It also doesn't have good bass if that is what people are looking for.

    KZ in-ear's for a few dollars more seems like a better deal. (Same as the veclan guys but they do in-ear canalphones).

    Oh what the heck, buy both. lol. Don't tell me I didn't warn you about it though.
