Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime Vs Xiaomi Mi5

Hi all,

I am contemplating getting one of Xiaomi redmi 4 prime vs xiaomi Mi5. Redmi 4 will cost around AUD210-220 and Mi5 is available for AUD 298 at Geekbuying? Question is whether Mi5 is ~90 AUD better than Redmi 4 prime?

Comments

  • Mi5 is a flagship-quality phone with mature 3rd-party ROM support including Cyanogenmod. Currently there's no Global ROM for the Redmi 4.

Have you considered the Redmi Note 4? IMO it's better value than both the Redmi 4 and the Mi5.

    • If considering Redmi Note, is not Note 3 Pro better than Note 4?

    • Keep in mind the Note 4 has a MediaTek CPU, and so probably won't get custom ROMs, or at most very few.

  • Thanks for your comments !! I do not prefer 5.5" phone. Ideally will want a 5" but happy to jump to 5.15" for Mi5. Anything bigger will not be ideal.

    • I have been looking at the same question. I think the hardware/fingerprint button on the Mi 5 is a big feature, and improved support for a flagship model is likely worth it.
I couldn't see it for $298, is there a special link or coupon?

      • See the link below. Its 300 AUD and i believe sale finishes today in next 8 hours.

      • Add another 98 and you can get Mi5s.

  • Check Geekbuying Mi5.. Currently @ $300.12.

  • A few questions, I was thinking of buy from Geekbuying.
    1. Are Geekbuying good to deal with?
    2. Can I use this phone in Australia?
    3. Are Xiaomi phones good?

I wouldn't buy a Xiaomi or use geekbuying unless you know what you are getting. Otherwise you will be complaining that the phone took 4 weeks to get here and one of the apps is in Chinese.
Do some research, read some reviews etc.

Geekbuying are slow to deliver. Be prepared for several weeks wait. It might be worth paying a little more from a site that delivers more quickly if you are in a hurry.

Yes the phones are fine here. No band 28 but that matters little unless you live rurally.

Xiaomi phones are fantastic value for money and very well made. I have the redmi note 3 and my daughter has been using the old redmi 2 for a couple of years. Both have been excellent.

Don't bother ordering the Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime from Banggood, they don't actually have the phone in stock yet keep your money until you finally send a message asking when they will be shipping it. Then they ask you to wait until it comes in. Waste of time, better to go with something that is either in stock or a different seller altogether.

    • Do you have a recommendation on any other site or seller? One thing I find funny with them is that all of them say we price match and none of them actually do.

  • wanted to open new topic but found this one.
Suddenly found that I cannot use my old iPhone4 anymore to access banking applications (Skype not working either) as noways apps require newer op system.
So I guess that's a sign that I need to upgrade.
Use my phone to make a few calls a week, checking emails and more importanly use for banking and stock trading apps (again only when I am well away from my main computer). Do not really use camera.
Absolutely sure that buying new $1200+ phone would be huge waste of money.
was looking at Apple and Samsung but found some good reviews about Xiaomi.
Being not so young man I do not really know what specs do I need to check before buying a phone.. I am just a user who does not have a clue about CPU speed and RAM size.
Anybody can recommend a reliable phone which will run apps for the next 2-3 years?
PS. would be nice if I do not need to buy a backpack to carry new phone around :-)

  • Hi dpassionate - what did you end up buying?

I'm in a similar scenario tossing up between the snapdragon 625 (less heat, more efficient, slower) vs 820 on the mi5.

With a much larger battery (4100mah), I can imagine for basic phone functions only, the pro prime might last much longer than then 3000mah in the faster mi5.

Pro prime comes with global ROM support now which makes it a bit better….

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are?
