Hi-Tec Altitude Trek Low Mens Black Waterproof Hiking Walking Shoes, AU $32.98 Shipped @ Sport Shoes Outlet eBay

1570

I use this shoes for hiking in last couple of months. I'd say they are 100% waterproof and very comfy. I used them in a 40 km hiking in Alpine National Park and didn't get any blister. $33 is an absolute bargain for them.

  • 100% waterproof…. would it be alright to be used as an amphibious shoe?

    • +5

As long as you dont get ankle deep, like most hiking shoes its the external material thats water proof and not the opening for your foot!

    • +3

Only if you are an Axolotl.

  • Not if you expect more than a quick casual dunk, I use north face gortex hikers, good for mud, wet grass and a spash through a stream, but water that enters around your ankle basically has no way to drain.

    • good find, Vibram sole is a must.

      • what is vibram sole?

        • +5

It's when your soul is full of vibram…

        • +1

Vibram is a company that makes rubber shoe soles, and also shoes (you know those stupid ones with individual toes). It's common for other companies to put Vibram soles on their shoes - as they're normally better than in-house made soles.

        • @Kangal: Not helpful but funny I guess…

    • I'm guessing those are not waterproof?

Planning to hike in wet places.

      EDIT:

      Bought the cheaper ones.

    • These look even better & have that nice sole.

      Great prices from this seller

      • yeah but they're not waterproof like the cheaper ones are in puddles / wet grass / shallow mud

    • thanks cryptos n OP, bought one, like the yellow

    • Yep definitely the better buy. I'm sold on Salomon hiking shoes, but at $40 these are at least worth a stab and rated very highly online.

    • Thanks bud. According to Amazon, the Flash Force runs small, so ordered 1 size up while the TREK are larger than usual so no need to upsize.

  • this looks good! my 2015 nikeairmax bubble popped recently and I didnt want to invest in the new 2017 ones yet.. thank you OP :)

    • You are replacing sneakers with hiking shoes?

      • If they're just for walking, I recommend it. They're sturdy, comfy, and they last. I walk a lot, and my sneakers lose their treads within 2 years or so.

      • it's for daily walking around use or travel, not doing anything hectic :)

" All Men's shoe sizes correspond to UK shoe sizes."

So basically take one off your current AU shoe size to get their UK size? Is this correct?

    • +1

Some times yes, other times not… that is why I find pretty frustrating buying shoes online, especially when you cannot return it within Australia and the cost of returning is the same as the product price.

    • +1

All my shoes list UK and US sizes, no AU sizing. Some shoe brand use the US sizing and some the UK as their "Australian" sizing. Don't know why they can't just say it's UK/US

    • +1

Its pretty strange isn't it. Mostly it is UK/AU and US sizes. But I have seen some shops saying AU/US. Without any standards, it is difficult. Just take UK to CM and convert it to your current shoes to make sure the actual size.
If you are paying with Paypal, you can get your shipping cost back for wrong sizes or any case of return.
      Hope that helps.

Measure both feet (easiest is to get someone to trace it on a piece of paper), and then go to the manufacturer website to figure out the size you need. Do NOT use existing shoe sizes - each brand is different

      • Yeah I used an exact sizing chart for Floresheim and Clarks when I bought online and both shoes were way off. I have UK sized shoes that fit me perfectly as a size 10, yet needed size 8.5 Florsheim's and gave up on the Clarks as each style is different sizing.

  • Got one for travelling. Thanks OP

  • Are these a good reliable brand?

    • +1

This brand is from the UK, their quality is pretty good for the price.

  • +1

    How heavy are they?

    • +1

I have a pair of mid version of them, they are pretty light weight.

      • Have you noticed that the size you got is one size bigger than your normal trainer?

        • They are all in UK size. I used the size chart to convert to aus size

        • +1

          @apm2011:

Aren't mens UK the same size as AUS? According to the Mathers and Asos websites (1st 2 results via google search), they are anyway.

        • @apm2011: After a bit of googling around, I believe they are not standard sizes.

        • for comparison, I wear asics kayano US11 and hitec UK10 (with bonds explorer socks).

  • Anaconda carries this brand if anyone wants to try and pricematch

    • They generally won't price match with any retailer outside the province.

  • Did Alpine crossing in Nike Roshe - can confirm no blisters and doable however hiking boots would have made it x10 easier

  • +3

Ah no size 6 for lots of them it seems. Small feet problems

    • +1

I have the opposite problem. I always thought the grass was greener with smaller feet since small sizes cater all the way down to 0 year olds.

  • Nice one op.thanks.

  • +2

How would you rate the width? My feet are fairly wide especially around the toes, a lot euro shoes seem quite narrow as they have not spent their formative years running around barefoot like aussie kids tend to!

    • Hitec are usually reasonably wide. I have a slightly wide and fairly thick foot and they fit me.

    • I laughed. Then I pondered and Googled.

      Story checks out…http://www.paleohacks.com/barefoot/feet-width-changes-after-barefoot-6894

      • In PNG apparently they all have very wide triangular thongs (flip flops).

Good shoe, I've got a pair of Hi-Tec's I bought back in 2008 at Ray's Outdoors… they've done Kokoda, Everest Base Camp, Great Ocean Rd, Wilson's Prom, Milford Sound Track in NZ and still going strong without a single blister or sign of wear & tear. Great shoes, although I do have a different model to this one.

    • was thinking of using this for abel tasman, couple days kayak and then hike trip :P

    • What's the model you actually have?

  • This might not be the comment for the deal but does anyone own supra shoes?
    What are they like?

  • Cheers OP, got a pair (of shoes).

  • Thanks op bought one

  • Do they have womens hiking shoes? Am looking for a pair for my wife.

  • Don’t quite need a pair yet, but for the price, I’m sure I could go for an additional hike or two. Perfect for summer hiking when my boots are overkill.

  • Thanks OP , bought a pair

  • Thanks op hmm shoe sizes …..

  • Will that be good for a 14 days trip in Japan during March (end of winter) ?

    • +8

      はい、そうです

    • Unless you're going to be walking through snow deeper than the shoe - in which case it might get in the top. Are you going to be hiking, or just walking around being a tourist?

      • it will be tourist walking around Japan and maybe a bit of hiking. I ordered a pair :)

        • +1

I would say these would be fine then. I wore a similar pair of hi-tec's for a 6 week trip in Europe in the middle of winter and never had cold, wet, or uncomfortable feet. The only thing that held me back was not being accustomed to spending 10 hours a day on my feet.

  • +2

    Got one! Thanks OP
I can finally retire my hiking boots from 15 years ago.

  • Thanks OP. Bought one.

  • thanks Op. Bought one in Size 8 as it's the only size closest to mine. My shoes size is normally 41 or 8 so hope this fits when I get it.

  • so is everyone buying 1 size down from their normal US size? (AU mens is US right?)

    • Technically AU sizes are very close to UK sizes, but most shoes that you buy in Australia (especially sports shoes) will be sized in US sizes unless otherwise stated.

  • +1

I have this exact pair and got them about a year ago. They have been good and waterproof. They seem fairly tough and durable. I got size 9 UK and I'm usually size 10.5 US in sports shoes. I paid about $90 at the time ordered from a UK shop on ebay. That price is tempting, very good deal considering they are leather.

    • Oh shoot. I'm a usual US sz 10.5 and I ordered the UK sz 10 (corresponds to US sz 11). I hope ur a small 10.5 and Im a big 10.5!)

  • Only sizes 8, 9, 10, 11 left. Thanks OP

  • Oh yeah, thanks for the heads up OP

    • I don't think people should take that chart as gospel. I'm 10.5 US and have these in 9 UK and they are not tight. Actually they felt a bit snug width wise at the toe area and I thought if they came in half sizes 9.5 would be perfect. But after wearing them in they are a bit roomier. Wearing with thick socks there's still enough room.

  • +3

Hey guys! We can soon start a size swapping post here since someone is bound to order the wrong size

  • This looks great, problem is are the size 9 a normal 9 or a smaller fit ??? im usually anywhere from 9 to 10 depending on brand… has anyone got these and what do they recommend ?

  • A further 10% off? Is this still working? CAUS10

  • I don't know how you people buy shoes online. I've found shoes vary even over two sizes when I try them on. Yes, same UK scale. Seems far too risky to buy shoes without trying them.

    • +1

You gotta risk it for the biscuit

  • Got the dispatch email.

  • OP - back in stock.

    • 686 sold in 2 days! they most be surprised

      • They must know they've been ozbargained. Mine got sent out today. That was quick considering how many orders they're getting out. Wish they also sold Brooks shoes.

  • Thanks OP. Ordered size uk 9 for us 10 I wear. Over 700 sold now! The shoe seems decent. Hopefully it is good to use for work.

    • Marked as posted already! Heck that's fast!

  • Im a size 10.5 us i have no idea what size to buy ! :(

  • ordered size 10 fingers crossed usually a size 10.5

    • I've got these in size 9 UK and wear 10.5 US running shoes. Maybe also get size 9 then give away the pair you don't want? Still a good deal.

  • +1

Fuarrrrrrk. I ordered 3 diff sizes to try, thinking paypal free returns $45 cap would be plenty. then I see it costs around $70 to post a single pair of shoes back to the UK. WTF M8! Looks like I'll have at least two, maybe three pairs of shoes to sell once I receive them. How on earth can they post the shoes to us and make a profit at a $33 price point for $90rrp shoes?

    • does it really cost $70 to post them back ?!

      • As far as i can tell. Checked auspost, skippypost, interparcel. The worst thing with shoes is the volumetric weight of the box, which means it's effectively a 3kg parcel even if it only weighs 1.5kg. And don't forget you have to insure it or good luck getting anything back if things go wrong..

        • so paypal cover it up untill $45 ?

        • I checked at my local post office 2 months ago and was quoted about $50- tracked to UK. That was in a shoe box

        • @shonofear: depends on the size of the box. Vans for example have tiny boxes. These are hiking shoes and will likely have a larger-than-necessary box.

        • @nnolan: yah just google "paypal free returns aus" to find the t&c

        • Being a high volume online reseller, they would have special pricing from their courier (or in conjuction with ebay). You're being quoted retail with a massive markup to the actual shipping cost.
