    • It's a good phone in terms of hardware (DAC/Display) but it's the software of this phone which it falls short. When in comparison with the One Plus 3

Just got this phone yesterday. Hate to be one of those people, but it works for me. Note that user has the US version, which is a little different in terms of software. I use the CommBank app for NFC payment, which works fine, and I've just trialled spotify which works fine on locked screen.

There are some other cons with this device (Lacklustre camera, other software quirks), but I wouldn't base my decision on that specific post.

      • That's all actually quite good to know :)

It's nice to have a local opinion of the locally available software.

      • did u buy it through ZTE aus? or sites like gearbest?

        • I got mine through amazon.de, it was 386 EUR (523 AUD) at the time plus at least 30 AUD for shipping. Got it from there as I felt it was a more reliable service, faster shipping, both colours were the same price and (maybe) better warranty/service. Fast shipping was the main reason.

        • @ESM:

          Is this a good phone?

        • No issues so far for me. Screen and audio are great, probably the top reason to get the phone. Battery life is good, I can get 5 hrs SoT over 24 hours usage without much tinkering. Camera is mediocre (especially low light), some users report connectivity issues which I personally haven't seen. I get half strength 4G in my uni building which is EM shielded, better than my last phone. Reportedly the global model doesn't support VoLTE and "only" has cat 6 LTE (Telstra goes up to cat 11; 600 Mb/s vs 300 Mb/s, whether this will affect you much in the real world I can't say). Can't comment on performance compared to other SD820/1 phones but it's definitely much faster than my old LG G2. Software is probably the biggest let down, it's by no means horrible but ZTE have made some odd decisions such as the maligned notification bell that hides lockscreen notifications. There is a path to bootloader unlock/root/custom ROMs though which is a nice option to have.

Overall I'm pretty happy, the phone has a few advantages over the OP3T (probably most direct competitor) such as mSD/better screen/better audio and 4G band support is very good for everywhere in the world besides the US (unlike most xiaomi phones). However, I wouldn't get it if you weren't prepared to mess around with 3rd party apps and XDA to get it running nicely. Haven't looked on ozbargain but whirlpool have a good thread on it and some issues users have been getting.

  • I found that with my Xioami Phone hardware is stellar except the camera, wifi & flash memory speeds, but the software has some ready bad bugs. Went back to using my LG

    • What kinds of software bugs have you found? The only issue I've noticed is the wallpaper "zooms in" when I use the Nova Launcher… Everything else seems pretty satisfactory.

    • Which phone do you have? I've just flashed Android 7.1 onto my Mi5, it's great.

      • Redmi Pro Helio x20 processor
Spotify droping out was the real deal breaker for me
        WIFI dropouts were also bad
its my mother-in laws problem now

Oh ouch, rule of thumb for me is always get a Snapdragon CPU. If it doesn't have one, I don't get it.

Hopefully that doesn't come back to bite!

        • @Shaw: I could not agree more…

      • Is the 7.1 ROM cm-based or MIUI-based?

good luck buying through gearbest had problems with an item requested rma, they were doing the same thing as neverbuying.

imo i dont think its worth taking the risk spending this much at GB, your basically buying a phone with no warranty.

so far banggood have been the only ones to help in times of warranty issues with phones ive had, i had a problem with my ulefone power

    • Hi bit_jet,
