After doing a video calibration I'm pretty impressed by the TV at this price point

        • Looks a bit washed out, but I reckon it should be ok for a kid's bedroom TV.

        • +2

@mfsc300: got any post calibration pics?

        • +2

Would you mind sharing your calibration specs please? :)

        • +4

          @cyssero:

Just used a calibration video that I have.

          Contrast: 48
          Brightness: 46
          Colour: 47
Sharpness: 70(don't notice any difference no matter what level)
          Temp: Normal

        • @mfsc300: are those pictures before or after calibration?

        • +1

@mrwillc: Before. Have moved new tv downstairs so don't have post calibration comparison pictures

        • If lg is the top one and the viano is the bottom one i still can't tell the difference

      • +1

Yes I was able to play H.265 direct from Samsung T1 1TB SSD

        • Appreciated!

  • +2

Wow, Is it a genuine Viano? (sarcasm)

    • Not sure the (sarcasm) flag was required

    • +1

I'll wait for the next genuine panaphonics deal!

  • Is there a game mode or anything? Considering buying this as I have a pretty bad TV at the moment anyway. Aslong as there's a way to play with no input lag (or no noticeable lag) I'll probably jump on it.

    • Ye. I would love if someone could test the input lag on this thing!

      • +1

I just bought this tv was playing zelda wind waker on gamecube, the input lag isn't as good as pc ofc but its not bad at all I'm guessing it is around 30ms better than my Samsung tv which is around 100ms

I've uploaded a YouTube video quickly showing the input lag take what you want from it

  • there was a guy here. couple of years ago. he reckons he could tune Sonique to look like a SONY.
    where is he now????

    • +2

The only thing he could probably tube was the name… take the que off the end… It's a Soni

    • -1

oh. he's here. cuz he gave me a neg ha ha

  • thanks op, will look tomorrow

  • No reference about this TV on Big W website. I guess this is a run-out unit and they may not have enough stocks for Ozbargainers.

    • This is pretty normal for the Big W website

  • Thank you to the OP. Purchased this TV from Rockdale store and the picture is adequate for my needs and the Rockdale store has alot left and its not on the store floor, you need to ask for it.

    • Is the picture smooth?

      • It's good enough but everyone perception is different

  • Serious question: how would this TV compare in picture quality to a 9 year old Philips Cineos 43 inch Plasma TV model 42pf9641d/79 ?
I am not interested at all in smart TV features or sound as I only play media from my computer via HDMI and an independent amplifier with speakers.
I expect some comical responses but if there is an iota of useful info in there then much appreciated :)

    • Panel resolution
      1366 x 768p

      Power consumption
      248 W

Resolution is miles better on this, power consumption is significantly less. I would buy it if I was you. It would pay for itself in 3 years just in reduced power.

  • How does this compare to the JB Soniq brand?

  • I bought a Sony x8000d during a sale for $800, is the picture difference between this likely to be significant?

    • YES, of course.

But this is HALF THE PRICE and a lot larger.

  • +1

I bought the last 55" from stock at Winston Hills in Sydney. There was one more on display, but not sure if they will sell it.
Will report back with a review after I set it up later tonight

Oh… and the discounted price didn't seem to come up in the System but the supervisor came to assist and get the stock from the back room, and she keyed it at $419.39 without me telling her the exact price.

    • +2

You paid 9c too much, you should take it back.

Bought one, no vga input and no optical in/out, cant use external speakers with it.

    • You could use a rca to optical Digital converter

    • No coaxial out or even 3.5mm (headphone) analogue out?

      • It does having a headphone out and a coaxial out.

        • Coax in to optical out converter?

        • thanks

cant use external speakers with it

          can* then

    • That's for letting us know. No optical out is a deal breaker.

    • Why not use HDMI?

      • my HP Microserver N40L htpc has vga output only. time to upgrade is this?

        • Oh. Why not use a CRT?

        • @muncan: lol.vga can do 1080p full hd. now i need hdmi for 4k.

    • Going by these specs it seems to still have PC audio input..

      https://iviano.com/tvs/4k-ultra-hd/55-4k-ultra-high-definiti…

    • Does it support HDMI-CEC?

  • How's this for gaming?

  • Thanks op picked one up from Menai (miranda had sold out). It does have 4 hdmi. The batteries were dead but I am not going to bother returning lol. Quality seems ok,i am not a tv expert but happy for size and price. Don't forget to register your tv within 2 weeks of purchase.

    • Is there a specific reason to register the product?

Just had one bought for me but won't see it for a couple of weeks so deciding if it's necessary to get the serial # etc earlier.

      • No. You dont need to register to have warranty as in instruction menu stated.

Unbelievable how picky people can be on a $420 55" 4K UHD TV!!

  • +1

Guess this doesn't support HDCP 2.2 or HDR-10?

Any recommendation for cheap 4K TV support both HDCP 2.2 and HDR-10 (to use with PS4 Pro).

    • yeah the cheapest decent 4k HDR TV's i've seen that support both HDCP 2.2 and hdr-10 are the hisence 7 series with a little settings calibration you can get it looking as good or better then most of the expensive HDR 4k tv's selling right now but i'm more inclined to wait for next year's models of TV's or at least wait see what comes out of CES early jan/feb to get an idea if TV makers get there ass in gear to actually standardize HDR and not just put in on the box for marketing purposes.

  • in the TV menu, it has HDMI 4K mode of Enhanced.
That means it at least support 4K @ 60Hz?
    Not sure about HDCP 2.2

  • +1

Service menu can be accessed by pressing source then keying in 2,5,8,0 Can one of you guys with calibration acumen help calibrate White balance using that and share your calibration settings here

    • Thanks a lot for service menu. I can see panel ID is 4k 60HZ, and also I can see HDPC and HDCP22 key. I seems that they all supported. It's quality is really good for this price! Input lag is batter than sony or samsume.

    • Thanks, segaxavier !!

How on earth did you work out the Service Menu?

Did you work out who manufactures it?

      • There are common service codes for these TVs seems to be similarities in the base firmware. So I kept trying several, until one of them worked. Most codes have been posted on Whirlpool over the years. Glad I could help.

    • How did you go with calibrating in the service menu? Any settings you recommend?

      • people have any settings they would like to share?

        • Tried and this is what i have
          Picture mode: Personal
          Contrast: 17
          Brightness: 54
          Colour: 43
          Sharpness: 36
          Tint: 70
          WB adjust
          Colour temp: Normal
          R-G: 115
          G-G: 132
          B-G: 128

          Gamma: Increase black

Have a start with those and tweak them
Be careful about the RGB values, i found an article somewhere but can't recall where they advised that (R-gain + G-gain + B-gain)/3 = (max gain possible)/2

        • cheers

        • @nmrg: you can also bump up contrast to 62 depending on your own preference

  • Hey folks had foe over a week. Love it except the audio. Hey for $420 55" inch is good value

    • Buy screens for vision and speakers for sound. Everything has one job :-)

  • Just got one today. It doesn't play rmvb file and ezycasf dongle doesnt work either. Does any one have the same problem or knows how to fix these? Thanks.

  • So tempting to get this as I'm still waiting on my TV to arrive from overseas in mid January and we have Christmas/New Years ahead of us. 55" is also a decent size and could make for a good spare TV in the future but unsure where I'd put it.

  • Bought it. There were a couple left in Big W Macquarie Centre but the sticker still said $599, and when I asked the staff she said it's normally $649 but the system showed $499… then when she scanned the barcode it came up as $419.30.

I did try to use the 5% on gift cards but after waiting over an hour for them to arrive and realising I better move soon otherwise I'd have to pay $6 for parking, I just paid using my CC (hey at least I get the half-baked warranty on the credit card?).

(anyone else planning to try the gift cards thing - it takes a bit over 2 hours to arrive; at least in my case… but in fairness they quote delivery time of up to 24 hours)

    • I was away for a while and I just started to look for stock. Obviously, I couldn't find any.. (Melbourne)

  • we need a thread for Android TV boxes

  • we need a thread for Android TV boxes

    Thanks heaps.
