I think the answer is, and I think I read this several years ago, that the launch prices of downloadable games are purposefully higher than retail prices because Sony / MS don't want to upset the retailers, as the retailers are very important for them.

So that's the general idea, I think.

Personally i've been buying used games from ebay, playing them, then selling them on ebay for most games, but have picked up several via PSN sales. I think the main benefit of PSN games is that they're always on your system, so no disk swapping required. Makes it easier to jump in and out of games.

      • That, and the RRP is the same for physical and digital but most retailers discount quite aggressively to attract customers. The digital store doesn't attempt to compete with that (for reasons you describe).

    • It's one of the main reasons I haven't gone digital on consoles. Why would I pay $99.95 when I can head into Big W or Target and pick up a physical copy for $30 less? When they have sales like this the prices are generally not that great because of the higher list pricing. Even if that $99.95 game is 50% off it's still generally more than what you can get a physical copy for anyway. Take a look at that Doom pricing for example. I grabbed a physical copy for $18 recently.

      • At least with digital you can wait for it the price you're happy with. There is no worry of them running out of stock during a sale.

    • Sometimes digital games can be cheaper if there is a good sale on. I guess for example, Dark Souls II in this sale is cheaper than a buying a physical copy.

      • Although a physical copy is still likely to be cheaper when you net the resale value, whereas downloads have no value.

        • Not all of us resale our games and there's value in never having to change discs.

    • what can you expect from sony, especially SCEE

SCEA sometimes do offer good deals though

I'd like to buy Marvel Ultimate Alliance again, but not for the prices they want. Re-releases should never been full price.

    • I swear both Destroy All Humans games weren't $30 at launch, at least the second one wasn't.

    meh…

  • Ghostbusters was a good price, $15 i think, but i want it for that price physically, just incase i want to resell lol

US or AU store in title please.

    • +3

It's an Aussie site - I mean you would presume its for AU unless otherwise said.

It's a bargain site, many members have US psn accounts.

  • Activision are slowly starting to figure out what decent sale prices are.

  • Weak titles and prices for a weak-end sale
