Seeking Advice on Buying a PS4 Slim Console ONLY Deal This Month

Hi guys,

I am considering buying a ps4 slim this month, just saw ebgames started a mad monday deal which has https://www.ebgames.com.au/ps4-222446-New-look-1TB-PlayStati… New-look 1TB PlayStation 4 Console (Refurbished by EB Games) (preowned) for AUD398

My personal plan is get a 500gb model then replace the hard drive with an 2TB one.

Should I wait until Chritmas then ? Missed the black friday AUD298 deal though….

Thanks for any advice.

Best Wishes,
Tony

yeah, wait. I think its a terrible decision to buy a pre-owned console for 400 bucks.

    • tks for reminder >.< glad i didn't press buy it now button

      • Unless I am missing something, why not purchase the PS4 500GB Slim from Target? Currently $329 brand new.

  • I think if you're looking to get a new console, you should really consider the PS4 Pro.
For a little bit more money, you get a PS4 capable of doing 4K videos, HDR, and VR.
And if you don't care for any of those features, at least you know it will be future-proofed.

The original PS4, upgraded PS4, and the PS4 Slim (500GBs) all go for around the sub-$300 mark.
    Second-hand costs around $280-$350.

However, if you're willing, you could hunt for deals for the PS4 Pro around the sub-$400 mark.
Which is worth it, at least for the bump to 1TB storage.
So value wise, it's definitely worth upgrading.

Otherwise you could buy a $99 2TB Seagate/Samsung external HDD.
Then make the upgrade, and use the 1TB as your personal external drive.
I made the storage upgrade, and it was a wise choice.

    • Any advice how to get ps4 pro around $400? I'm too looking for a ps4 console deal.

    • When has the Pro ever been around the sub-$400 mark? Cheapest that I know of was $492 during an eBay sale.

      • It was $479, then $492

It was $447 on Target eBay (after discount).

….Now remember at this price, these retailers are still making a profit AFTER tax.
So while the market will value the PS4 Pro around the $499 mark.
It's no surprise that you will see constant sales dip below, to enter the sub-$400 mark.

That's pretty good bang-for-buck for the hardware.
However, for even better value you really have to go Steam and PC Gaming.

That's still an extra $150 on top of the PS4, which can hardly be described as a little more.

        • @cdestratis:
          My point still stands.
It's an extra $150 if neither are on sale. It's an extra $100 if you snag an OzBargain.

And for $100 more, its worth it.
You increase your storage to 1TB, and you future-proof yourself.

Go check out reviews for the PS4 Pro, they all have the similar recommendation:
          - Get the PS4 Pro if you don't have any console
          - If you have an OG PS4/Slim
don't upgrade because it's not worth it.
          -
          - But a Gaming PC is still the better value proposition.

          @Kangal:

          My point still stands.

          No, it really doesn't.

It's an extra $150 if neither are on sale.

Currently there is over a $200 (RRP) difference between the two consoles.

It's an extra $100 if you snag an OzBargain.

As described in my last reply, even when both consoles were on sale there was a $150 difference.

At their current RRP of $349 vs. $559 (Slim and Pro respectively), it's over a $200 difference.

The only time where there may have been a $100 difference between the two is if you're comparing the 1TB Slim to the 1TB Pro, which hardly counts as a fair comparison when it comes to face value.

The reviews you linked are purely comparing the two consoles if money isn't a factor, which my initial reply wasn't directed at.

          @cdestratis:
…and despite all that it was on sale for $447 at Target.

          Good game though.

        • @Kangal:

Right, you said that in your initial reply, but that's still a $150 difference.

tks very much for the reply.

The reason why i am choosing a slim model is that the internet has data limit at my current rented place but my workplace has super fast one. I tend to carry it to my company for downloading purpose. Pro would be too heavy and hard to put into bags..

i checked gumtrees before, second hand one cost on average 300, normally console + games bundle but I prefer console only.

I will check the external HDD you said :P

      • No worries, all the best.

  • https://ebgames.com.au/ps4-217250-New-look-1TB-PlayStation-4… is a pretty good deal and much better than what you found!!

    • Is there anything for the 500gb? Seems like prices have jumped $30-50 for Christmas.

    • tks for reminder :P

so buy an 1TB model instead of a 500gb one then buy a 2TB HDD ?

  • I just bought the $299 500GB one two weeks ago… Finished Uncharted and now I don't know what to do with it lol. Maybe I should've found one with a bundle of games! lol.

  • BigW has the lowest deal for 500GB slim PS4. Check out the deal I posted just now. Bought one too.

    • I'm planning on price matching with this at HN, using AMEX and get the $100 credit :)
