Isn't this not much different from the regular price?

    • -2

$69 normally and always out of stock

      • +3

        It's normally $49.95

      • Melbourne Central (VIC CBD) had a stack of them, maybe 10, for $49.95 each.

        • +1

Yeah I saw in the glass cabinet 20+, friend and I had a laugh about how nobody was buying because the game isn't popular anymore.

  • -3

People still playing this game? Every time it updates something is taken away.

    • +4

Still the number 1 game on Android, so yes, people are still playing.

      • Yeah but, do people still play video games?

        • +2

Nah, no one plays video games.

    • +2

You mean like the added new pokemon? (added ditto, recently)
The new Tracking feature that shows you how to walk to the pokestop?
The new pokemon radar that shows you what location it's near?
The Radar that shows you how close you are even if you're NOT near a pokestop?
      The type-indicators for wild?
The type indicators for Gym Battles?
The newer GPS algorithms making it way more reliable?
      The increased PokemonGo Plus support?
The better 'resume from background' support?
      Less data usage?

      I have to ask….
      What has been taken away? Ive played daily since release;
about the only thing that left was the bad, old, tracker system, which was quickly replaced.

EDIT: anyway, the pogo Plus is 100% worth it if you enjoy augmented reality games.
You feel like you're ALWAYS playing, it's subtle enough to clip to a belt and brush when you feel it vibrate.
It keeps the game 'active' while not running, so it can track KMs and stops\wild while the game is in the background.
I've had a few disconnects, but only when I wear it on the same wrist as my other BT4.0 device, so I think they dont like touching each other.
I'd recommend one to anyone who enjoys the game, but doesn't want to 'zombie' stare at their screen while playing. Just walk around subtly with the PoGo Plus on your belt, and check your phone every few hours to see what happened!

      • Someone took his comment to heart..

        • +1

Well of course, when people talk down on things you love, you'd at least like it justified :)

        • @MasterScythe:

There are plenty of well justified complaints all over the net, so suggesting that I'm not justified is ridiculous.

          http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2016/08/01/pokemon-go-…

          http://www.india.com/buzz/pokemon-go-updates-angers-players-…

You can defend it all you like, but the game is repetitive and with all the changes it very quickly went from being fun to not being fun for me and my family. It requires that you invest all your time and/or some money for gameplay that is limited to spinning lame spinners to collect Pokeballs, collecting virtual pets, juggling their stats to evolve them and lame outmatched gym battles with people who've spent so much time and money playing that you have no chance as a casual player. Catching the same Pokemon again and again was just boring and rarer ones required dedication that no casual player is going to put in. Any attempt to use a map to find better Pokemon is treated as a cheat that will get you banned.

But my biggest gripe with this game has always been that it gets you out into the fresh air and encourages you to ignore it and stick your nose in your handset. I'd rather my family go to the park and enjoy the park. And now that they can't even use it in the car…it offers nothing. It has been removed from all of my phones and my wife didn't bother reinstalling when she upgraded hers.

        • +2

          @syousef:

Both of those complaints are not valid, and outdated. They lasted 2 months at most.
Petty users complaining about petty things.
The game continued to function fine without it; It just meant you had to walk more.

They removed the footprint tracker, because it was buggy and causing huge server lag.
They replaced it (VERY QUICKLY) with "pokemon size vs. blades of grass size" and now have exact 'near this landmark' tracking.

Pokemon games have never been for casuals. Gameboy games have intense math involved, when you take into account EV training , and IV math alone; you can spend about 20+ hours PER POKEMON getting it 'just right'.
By comparison, raising pokemon in PoGo is much quicker.

I've spent less than $100 on PoGo, about the same amount as I would on ANY video game (last game I bought was Overwatch, at $75+), so I wouldn't say I've invested much at all.

Using the map to find a better pokemon is incorporated into the app now; so that's also an invalid complaint (assuming you're close to it).

And, good news! Your biggest complaint, is fixed with the Pokemon Go Plus!
When you go outside and walk around with your friends, you no longer need to stick your nose in your hand set! You can set it to alert on pokemon or pokestops only, and othewise just walk, run jog, climb, and have fun!
You can leave your phone in your pocket and only take it out when you need to, not zombie stare at it!

Also, with a PoGo Plus attached, you CAN still use it in the car, since it only updates location every 10 seconds! You can initiate a catch or collect from a stop easily!

Its strengths to strengths, it's only ever gotten better :D

        • @MasterScythe:

"It just meant you had to walk more"…You're young and with few family commitments I'm guessing.

The replacement of the footprint tracker took over a month. It got removed and not too long after I stopped playing.

It was fun with the family in it's original release state. Even more fun hunting Pokemon with the family in the car (me driving, them hunting) when I used a map. Never got banned but, being a developer, and seeing them get removed from the Google Play store was upsetting.

The game has moved on and is very different. I don't want to buy a tracker to play it and I won't be trying it again. Once a game isn't fun, it's not fun. My kids still watch the cartoons, but playing Go isn't something we do.

        • @syousef: I'm old enough to be interested in stock markets and board meetings as my daily grind, lets just put it that way.
I'm not young, but I've not cracked 40.

No major family commitments, no. Buy my friend who comes out with me quite often has 2 kids under 3, and he manages fine too.

Once you adapt to 3~5 hours sleep, you get a lot of fun stuff done in the early hours :D Though that first 8 or so months training your body to be OK with that sleep is like a sledgehammer to the brain.

        • -1

          @MasterScythe:

Once you adapt to 3~5 hours sleep, you get a lot of fun stuff done in the early hours :D

You joke about this. When you're older you'll realize you can't do that crap any more. Your body simply doesn't react the same way. Also I have a sleep disorder that doesn't help…

In my 20s I could do 4 hours a night for 2 weeks without being too impaired. Now…forget it.

Your friend with kids is doing well if he can keep up with you.

        • @MasterScythe:

"Pokemon games have never been for casuals."

          WOW.

        • @KLoNe: I know right? A PvP focused RPG game with advanced math elements being HARD?!
          THE HORROR!

      • -2

I haven't played for a while whereas obviously you're obsessed.

        When I was playing:

        • They took away the proximity radar
        • The ability to play while a passenger in a car was the last straw and totally ruined it for our family. Use to keep the kids occupied.

Glad for those still playing that they've added back some features but they lost a lot of people, especially after having the accounts (not just the app) of developers that created maps thrown off Google Play store. That's their whole livelihood. I rarely if ever see people playing it around the local neighbourhood or shopping center any more. Whereas at it's height it was all the rage, especially at the local shopping center and library.

        • Not obsessed, no more than I am with anything else in life.

The proximity radar was taking down the server due to polling, the complaints led to a choice:

          1. stable no crashing servers\app
          2. little feet icons.

          They chose the responsible outcome.

It was gone for AT MOST 2 months.

With a PoGo Plus you can play in the car.

As a friend of an app developer, they got their accounts back; its just the quick dirty fix for cheaters.

But, as above, casuals need not apply to pokemon games. It's always been a VERY long term commitment to play a pokemon game versus other players.
You can casual single player in the GB games, but in the multilpayer world; casuals need not apply.

  • Plenty of people on eBay still trying to sell them for $150

  • -1

This doesn't work at all. Usually failed in catching Pokemons and have never connected to my iPhones.

    • -1

      It's a fixed 25% rate.
Which is pretty decent for 'passive' gameplay. The pokestops are what I use it for more anyway.

      • It's not a fixed 25% rate, it's just the rate if you throw a normal pokeball with no bonus multipliers (no razz, curve, nice/great/excellent)

        • Ah, that's been updated too then!
In the live Q&A one of the reps had in the states, it was revealed to be a fixed 25%.

Nice to know they improved that :)

          Source?

        • +1

          @MasterScythe:

A lot of research on thesilphroad reddit, which lead to the publication of this. I don't know much about analysing datasets so the only part I understood was 'GO+ catch rate is exactly the same as throwing a Poké Ball without any throw bonuses'

Makes sense though, explains why the pokemon you catch using the Go+ tends to be lower CP as the higher CP ones are more likely to run away.

        • @lyl: Ah, neat!
          Thanks!

      • -1

Not descent when they charge people a lot for that toy whose cost is no more than $5.

  • Is anyone still playing this? …lol

    • It plays itself.

      • With PoGo Plus, sure does!
        Love it!

        • +1

Now there's a recommendation. Buy something so the game plays itself instead of you bothering to play it. The mind boggles!

Free tip if you like that: For years you've been able to download chess engines and set the computer to play against itself.

        • @syousef: Yep, I've done that too.
When I was a kid, I'd do that, wait until it managed to get itself into a situation I didn't think I was skilled enough to reach, then turn off the auto play, and play from there.

The usual term in videogaming is "Trainers" which is kinda fitting to the pokemon theme. lol.

If they're new to you, you'll be AMAZED how popular they are.

Actually, a good example would be how popular 'gaming youtube channels' are; people want to experience, without having to do much.

A lot of people aren't in the mood to zombie at their phones all day (for example I work with some high ranking people, who wouldn't like a game running); however I walk a lot in my role, so I'd like the KM's to count.

          Clip to the belt;
          Its win win :)

        • @MasterScythe:

I'm aware of what trainers are. I wasn't sure you were.

Using a map to find Pokemon: Cheating
          Trainers: Not cheating.

There's a world of difference between using a trainer to develop chess strategy and letting it catch and collect items in Pokemon Go for you. The former is an attempt at understanding and improving your skill. There are much better ways to do that in chess by the way than letting chess engines fight it out. You're much better off with a game database with some commentary that actually explains what you're doing. Although chess engines can annotate, they don't always get it right or make sense because they don't work the same way humans do. This is something most advanced players actively discourage. (I am a casual chess player and will never put in the time to improve, nor frankly am I naturally gifted enough to want to bother).

I would rather a game I can actually play than one that plays for me. If it's a grind, I'll avoid it.

        • @syousef:

          "If it's a grind, I'll avoid it."

          makes comments on playing pokemon

          what?
You're in the wrong game section boy.
          MMO-RPGs are PURELY a grind.
even MORE SO when they're Augmented Reality.

        • -2

          @MasterScythe:

MMO-RPGs are PURELY a grind. even MORE SO when they're Augmented Reality.

You've been brainwashed. They don't need to be.

At the end of a day grind = not fun. Not fun = I'll move on to something that is fun. Games are meant to be fun. It was fun with a map trying to hunt Pokemon, except that it was still a grind to collect balls. Last time I played it wasn't fun anymore.

The irony of you telling me I'm in the wrong section and suggesting that I should expect a grind is priceless. You've forgotten what games are for.

        • @syousef:

          What MMORPG isn't a grind?
Worlds most popular (WoW) certainly is.

I haven't forgotten what games are for; though it might be different for others.

For me? Games are for challenging yourself. Pushing yourself beyond your normal limits and bettering the player.

I got a scholarship from Warcraft 3. Made all my money as a teen playing Counterstrike, and still trickle some small funds in local tournies playing DOTA2.

Trust me, I know what gaming is.

        • +1

          @MasterScythe:

Perhaps you've hit on why I rarely play that style of game. (That plus the obnoxious people on many MMORPGs).

I'm all set to give EVE Onine a try now that a basic (but limited) account is free. I like simulation and have spent countless hours on R/C and full sized plane simulation in my youth. Probably in the thousands on Realflight and MS Flight Sim.

Now I have a family. Games are things I get to do a couple of times a week if I'm lucky in between other tasks. I'm not going to waste that time with a "grind".

Kerbal Space Program is what I'm currently messing with.

        • @syousef:
Which is fair enough, but why complain about those who DO enjoy that style of game?
Thats exactly what this is, an MMORPG, focused around grinding (luckily LESS grinding than ACTUAL pokemon games).

As I said, I've invested less than $100 in this game, and its really quite the leg up; no more than any other game.

My body needs about 4 hours sleep a night, so once the partner is in bed, and work is done, it's usually only 9 or 10pm. And I dont need to be up for work until about 7am.
So, walking around getting some exercise with my childhood 'friends' is a nice way to spend that last 3 or so hours a night; hopefully that doesn't chance once kids come along.

EDIT: On the not of Kerbal Space Program, if you've ever done even a sliver of decent Physics, it becomes a bore REALLY quickly. Every launch works ><

        • -1

          @MasterScythe:

Did I complain? I asked are people still playing that? If you're enjoying it go for your life. I'm sure I don't enjoy many many things you do, and vice versa.

  • 6 left in the Swanston St. Melbourne Store as of 30mins ago.

I went into an EB Games store to buy one in person.

I know the $45 price is Online Only, but being told a store refuses to match its own price borderlines on ridiculous.

  • I would wait till it's $20 at least ;D
