Best Budget TV for Parents for Christmas?

Hey guys!

First time using the forums so forgive my ignorance.

I would really like to get my folks a new TV for Christmas, they've had their 40" Plasma for years now, and it's a piece of garbage.

Now, they won't care so much about the top-end Sony's etc, so even the house brands like Soniq etc will be fine, but I'm just wondering if anyone can suggest good/decent TVs for around the $500 mark.

I'd appreciate any suggestions as I'm a bit clueless myself, I just know it's time for an upgrade for them, especially size-wise.

I personally got this Toshiba from Harvey Norman. It's not SMART though but picture quality is awesome and the best bang for buck under $500. You can do a bit of haggle as well.

  Thanks mate, am looking for a size upgrade first and foremost, and they currently do already have a 40". I'll see if there's something similar slightly bigger.

Last year I got my parents a secondhand Panasonic 40" TV off eBay for $100. Only 2 years old. My parents were stoked as it replaced their sony CRT. It wasn't their actual present, just a "throw-in" and an opportunity to turf the 20year old monster box that had been sitting in the corner.
