  • Anyone comment on the performance difference between the two?. Seems the only spec difference are the cpu's, ram/storage & screen (interesting to see how long the 4000mah lasts with the octocore + fullhd screen)

    • +3

Not night and day differences in day to day use or benchmarks, but if you want more of an idea do check out TechTablets review on YouTube for the Prime variant. Honestly, Xiaomi at this point is doing very well with their UI and it is actually one of the fastest out there next to Huawei's own skin.

Battery life appears to be in the same ballpark as the Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon variant.

    • What specs are left then?

      • +1

I meant in terms of battery life (well for me bit more important) :).

        • +1

GSMArena does battery tests and this is pretty much bang on par with the Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon. Therefore I get 1.5 days usage out of it most days with 5 hours screen on time.

        • @adrianhughes1998:

Cheers. Strange question. Why is the gold version cheaper than the grey and silver? (would have thought the reverse…)

        • +1

@smurfinaus: I think from memory gold is a symbol of good fortune or prosperity over in China. Therefore they snap up their golden phones in droves.

        • +2

@smurfinaus: I don't think they use real gold

        • @adrianhughes1998:

If you take by the gsmarena battery stats it's one the best phones they have ever tested in terms of browsing. It's odd how they get 20 hours browsing but less than 10 hours video playback. Seems something wrong with their video playback test in this instance to have such a huge disparity. Usually both scores are very close together.

          http://m.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_4_prime-review-1526p3.php

Compare that with their test where the Redmi note 3 pro only managed 12 for browser and video.

          http://m.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_3_snapdragon-review-…

One would expect the s625 to help the Redmi 4 pro beat the note 3 pro comfortably battery wise. The s625 is made on a newer more efficient process vs the older s650.

        • @Ronnnie: true , to me it still makes sense though cos s650 has two a72 cores so though the s625 is on a more efficient manufacturing it would do well on web browsing. Difficult to explain though and really anandtech does good articles on processor architecture etc.

        • @adrianhughes1998:

Browsing and video playback results should always be similar. The a72 uses more power than the a53. That's why the Snapdragon 650 uses 4xa53 and 2xa72. The a53 cores are used for tasks the don't require much power like video playback test, the a72 kick in for tasks that require more power. So the s625 on the newer process should be much better and it shows this in the browser benchmark difference. It doesn't make any sense there's such a huge disparity between the two results in the gsmarena tests on the 4 prime. Really the Redmi 4 prime should be significantly better battery wise based on the hardware. Unless there's something wrong with miui on that phone or the version they used to test it at the time caused it to perform poorly.

        • @Ronnnie: suppose. Could be the MIUI as you said. After all battery life went backwards for me on the MIUI 8 update and now it's only just been improved again on MIUI 8.1.1 update.

      • +2

Redmi 4A is a snapdragon 425, Redmi 4 prime is s625. Prime has full HD screen too.

    Band28'ers assemble !

    • +4

these are fantastic phones for the price, and i can certainly understand some folks needing Band 28.

      • I know - I do time-to-time consider switching providers where band 28 becomes more of a necessity. Have you tried any non-band 28 phones on the optus network? curious to know how the overall coverage is. and the GPS ? I do recall PokemonGO players going loco on the net over GPS issues here.

        • +2

I have and have had no issues with speed or reliability. Used a couple of Alcatel's. As I live in metro Perth it doesn't really affect me the lack of B28. GPS is perfectly fine along with mobile data on optus network

        • +1

band 28 makes a big difference indoors i switched to a new phone specifically and it's great when you aren't near a window, also on crowded trains which are full of people using 1800mhz,older phones …… when i go past a 700 mhz tower that download bar flies….. when it's an 1800mhz bar it crawls. probabaly makes no difference to those that use their phones in the car though.

there are utilities that show you towers used and bands …… helped me work out which side of. the train to sit on to get best coverage.

        • @garage sale: think there is a website OzTowers as well which shows that towers are around in your area.

You are bang on with your points though, does help in certain scenarios. How important that is to folks is a personal decision I guess.

        • @garage sale: what utilities did you use to show towers and bands?

      • +1

band 28 is where all the carriers are investing in their new towers, telstra paid $600M for that spectrum so they building it out to make the use of lte, and it is also used to aggregation on lte so you get higher through put.

the 2G ….. that network has been turned off by telstra already and others in january

        • +1

Optus (and I think Telstra) is also increasing B7 usage. Sure, not as good as 28, but better than nothing.
Having come from a 3G phone (to the Redmi Pro) I'm more than happy with the speed!

  • +3

GPU: 506,650MHz this is the most powerful GPU I have ever seen.

      • +1

Meh, a lot less exciting now.

      • +2

        • +1

@PW: it can use on every colour

        • +1

@MiniInTheBox: so does that mean a yes?

        • updated the link for everyone to see the Redmi Pro special :). 64GB storage for very low price!

        • @karan singh rathore: sorry, no offense meant, just that even with "expedited" shipping, any of these online international sellers tend to take a minimum of a couple of weeks, often due to customs slowdowns and shipping delays it can be MUCH longer. Then there is this time of year, postal slowdown.. and then the looming Chinese New year end of January. All in all no guarantees of anything.

        • they have express shipping if you are willing to pay extra …. when i had a redmi note 2 from one of the other sellers it arrived in 7 days …. cost $20 to ship though.

do any of these models support dual sim both slots on 3/4G ….. 2 G has been turned by off already in many places this month.

        • @minksta:oh, i see…

  • What's the camera quality? Is it comparable with Iphone camera in term of speed and resolution too? Thanks

    • +1

The Redmi range is the lower-end range of the Xiaomi line-up. Comparing this to a current iPhone is unfair, however perhaps to an iPhone 5 / 5s etc is probably similar. Capture speeds on Xiaomi phones are always pretty fast to answer your question there.

      • Which one is better between the redmi pro and redmi note 4?

        • Same in terms of performance and battery life. Redmi pro has dual camera setup (please check TechTablets channel on YouTube for videos on that) while the Redmi Note 4 doesn't. Also the other big difference is that the Redmi Pro has a USB type C port while the Redmi Note 4 does not.

        • i like the note as it has bigger screen……. the nano sd slot probabaly is less of an issue if you want to run dual sims as these phones have 32gb memory,

  • Just to double check, are these phones really dual standby compatible, as in 3G on one sim and 4G on another simultaneously?
Also, does the sd card dedicated or take the place of one of the sim slots?
    Thanks

    • +1

Yes they are. You can either get dual SIM microSIM or you get one microSIM and one microSD card.

      • Ok, thanks for clearing that up.

        • No worries. If I didn't already have a Redmi Note 3 I would have jumped on the Redmi 4 Prime. Obsession with Xiaomi now.

        • +1

@adrianhughes1998: Redmi 4 Prime does not work with free shipping.

  • does it have international rom and google play?

    • None of them do but global ROM should be out for the Redmi 4's fairly soon, as preorders are up around the internet. Just a matter of flashing this global ROM when it's released.

Honestly you only need to install the Google play APK on these phones and the rest will take care of itself. Just that some of the UI might still be in Chinese that's all.

  • Redmi Pro only comes to AUD $238.80 for me with the coupon code

any comment on redmi 4A performance?

    • Should be fine with the Snapdragon 425. There are plenty of reviews on YouTube of the phone and most seem happy with it.

  • Do they have Australian warranty

    • +2

      Chinese warranty.

  • +1

I can vouch for Redmi pros performance. Bought one for $300 from eglobal not too long ago. :( this is a very decent price, go for this model instead of Redmi note 3 or 4. Screen is great, very snappy performance and camera is miles better than Redmi note 3, ( I haven't got note 4 so can't comment on camera).

    • Ditto (from Nextbuying) - ~$225 (CR) delivered for this is a crazy price.
Just wish it had a global ROM.
(Will probably load EU version - have you done that, not sure if it affects warranty?)

      • Mine had a clean Eu rom installed from eglobal so didn't install anything else

    • Seems only the gold version is left…

  • Having a man blindness moment? cant find the spot to enter the code in checkout?

  • Hi Op,

morning sir, i will check it asap and try my best to get a nice discount.

  • do these ahve intl warranty? am going to live in malaysia for the next year and would be happy to buy one there if there was a warranty

  • +3

Is the shipping free? I would like to buy redmi prime 4 but there is no free shipping.

  • Guys do not buy from this seller. I cannot confirm that Redmi pro that I ordered came with nasty malwares and constantly rebooting itself now not getting to the start screen at all.

    • Sorry to hear that, I got one as well and it seems fine. Did you return?

      • Did you check for malware? I recommend you do, if you see some u will have to flash official Chinese rom

  • code gives only $14.3 as discount. It comes as $145.70 for Redmi 4A. Am I missing anything here?
