      • Cheers! I believe it was your post, thanks.. I purchased it last week for same price but higher cashback :)

        • I can't find that deal, and no it wasn't mine :)

        • @ cheapass88
          I too bought it from the last deal with 14% cashback.Did u get the cashback email confirmation.I'm still waiting.

        • @avn365:
          Yup I received it on the same day. Never had issues with cash rewards tbh

        • @Jimmy007:
          My bad!

    Still, I wish Xiaomi kept the Ethernet port on this player.

    • Agreed. Ethernet just works without fuss, can't say the same for wifi at all times.

    • Totally agreed

    • Yep, Ethernet still king.

  • Seller guarantees 60 day delivery. No faster option.

  • Can anyone comment if you can load the standard apps like "7 Play" and the free to air catchup apps onto this?

    Looking at one for my mum who is watching her missed episodes on a old computer and I thought this would be a nice upgrade so she can watch it on her TV if the apps can work on android TV

    • +1

      There's a Plus7 Android TV app in the play store, the rest of them aren't available.

      I haven't tried sideloading them yet to see if they'll work.

      Edit: someone's made versions of iview and sbs on demand that work on AndroidTV

      https://github.com/nextux/iview-android-tv/releases

      • My other though was a chromecast with a cheap android phone?

        • +1

          It's been a while since I tried, but not all the catch up TV apps support Chromecast.

          There are workarounds using Kodi on Android TV for the most part though it seems.

          The more I use Android TV, the more I like it. After some installing from Google Play and some sideloading, I'm pretty happy with this.

        • @raistlin: Thanks for your help :)

    • You might want to check out the Fetch TV Mini or Telstra TV…both have all the FTA catch up apps, plus Netflix and Stan etc.

  • How does this compare to recent s912 boxes like the Beelink GT1 or the MXIII-GII?

  • Don't get this if you have a Netgear V7610 (modem from Telstra DOT). It will not connect to it. If you can get it to connect though, the Mi Box is great.

  • Is there any other Android TV boxes out there yet? Ones certified for Netflix 4k etc. ?

    • Nvidia Shield TV, Razer Forge and the Nexus Player are the only others I'm aware of.

      • Nice to know I hadn't missed one. Although I didn't know about Razer Forge, but it has terrible reviews so no wonder I didn't!

  • i have this and it's sort of average.

    plex has issues with playing after wake up where the video track speeds up 2x while the audio remains the same, causing out of sync playback issues. the workaround for this is to use kodi and install the plex plugin.

  • I bought recently with geekbuying offer but it won't play netflix at all. Not sure if it's from a bad batch or otherwise but there's plenty of ppl out there with same issue. Xiamoi and Netflix support has been woeful. Keep that in mind when buying.

    • Trying to play on an Australian account? International or U.S version?

      • Aus account. I have had to sideload Netflix and that works but its SD and hard to navigate.
        Xiamoi have no idea how to fix and said just wait for new release.
        Netflix also said they can't explain and have handed it to their devs but no ETA to fix it

        • Doesn't sound usual, you are the only person I have heard of that has this problem?

  • I recently took delivery of this…. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/275309

    Is the one posted here an upgrade?

    • It looks to be the same model but just different seller/vendor/supplier.

      • Cheers bigears

    The Global version is the 3S model.
    Improved over the 3 Pro:

    Now 4K support HDR;
    HDMI 2.0->2.0a
    added support for VP9 4K2K@60fps
    added support for VC-1 1080p@60fps
    added support for HDR10
    added support for 3D Video output
    added DTS 2.0+Digital Out、Dolby Digital Plus

    Other difference:
    Pro->3S/Global version
    MT8693->Amlogic S905X
    Power VR GX6250->Mali-450
    2GB LPDDR3->2GB DDR3
    8GB eMMC5.0->8GB eMMC5.1
    Android 5.1->6.0
    WIFI 2x2->Wifi single antena
    USB 2.0X2 -> 2.0X1
    advanced remote->simple dumb remote
    12V,1.2A->5.2V, 2.1(USB?)

  • For around $10 more 3s version seems to be a really good one.

    Pasting the link for ready reference

    • can you please provide link to the 3s?

      • This is the 3S, as aboutconfig explained just above.

      • I concur, if someone is after Android TV box the one by OP is best, if someone is after the best Android box then the MI BOX 3S seems to be the best one by Xiaomi.

  • For anyone with this box does this play YouTube videos at 1080p or 4k or is limited to 720p like my older mx3 box is?

    • +1

      It can play 4k YouTube videos and is Netflix certified box

    In a set-top box which would be better for Skype on the TV, Android TV or Android Tablet?

  • Is this like a chinese ebay?

  • I got this from the previous deal. Love it. Have just gone through setting it up with Kodi for my TV shows on an external HDD connected through the USB port, plus installed Acestream and the Castaway add-ins (to Kodi) to allow me to stream English Premier League (et al.) on demand.

    Happy to share the details of the setup if anyone else is planning a similar use for it. Wasn't too tricky, and I'm sure I probably didn't do it the most efficient way either.

    • Yes please. :)

      • +1

        Haha, I'm already a bit fuzzy on it only a week later! But here goes:

        • Install Kodi from Google Play Store

        • Use Google to learn how to install the Castaway add-on to Kodi (plenty of guides around with image walkthroughs)

        That's all you need to stream sports (including EPL). You just load up Kodi, go to Videos -> Add Ons and select Castaway, then the stream source of your choice (it comes preloaded with a bunch). You can also add subreddits, and I recommend r/soccerstreams. Streams are refreshed live so you won't see any links unless there's a game starting soon.

        However, my extra step is personal preference, and it involves installing Ace Media Streamer as in my experience these streams are the most reliable and highest quality for EPL.

        • Follow the instructions under 'Android' in this post
          https://www.reddit.com/r/Addons4Kodi/comments/52pv28/a_guide…

        • I couldn't find a good web browser for the step to install the Ace engine, so downloaded it via PC to a USB stick and side loaded it onto the Mi Box through another app called ES File Manager (available on Google Play - you can google instructions on side loading through ES as well).

        • Then you just need to remember to open Ace Media app before you try accessing an Ace stream from Castaway (otherwise it errors).

        It sounds a bit complicated but it's actually not too bad, and definitely worth it. For example this morning I just woke up, flicked on tv, open Ace Media, open Castaway through Kodi and picked a stream from r/soccerstreams and within seconds was watching the mighty Liverpool =D

        Hope that helps

  • I took the plunge despite having already lots of ip boxes (3 normal androids,chromecasts and telstra tv). As I just bought the Viano 55 uhd I am curious about the 4k resolution. Can't wait for delivery, which will take ages…

  • I have been running this for a week now and it is a really good device. I prefer Archos to Plex as Archos connects directly to my NAS where by plex has to connect typo another machine that then connects to my NAS

    Only issue I have is with NBA league pass where the audio drops out of sync after a minute. Only happens with live games which is a pain but hopefully a software fix will come as the roku does not have this issue

  • Can someone here tell me if it's possible to download google play HD movies / TV on this box for offline viewing?

  • How is the external hdd playback? Is it size restricted or still able to plug a 1tb hdd in and watch movies off that?

  • My item arrived today.
    Lucky i selected the "AU plug" - it came with a $1 wall adapter.

    Really excited to set this up and see how it compares to the other Android box i have at home. The Android TV interface looks great
