Had to change my tyres and Honda dealership is quoting the below for my 2012 Honda Civic Hatch VTi-L model.

Front set wipers 55
AirPollen filter something and disinfection(Wt??) 149
4 x tyres = 180 dollars each
Wheel alignment = 88
Capped servcing 240

Flabbergasted. 1250 for this service.

Can anyone suggest how to go about "fixing" these thing?

Sorry for being vague, long day and tired.

Any pointers appreciated.

    Any pointers appreciated.

Don't go to a dealership for servicing.

      Thanks nocure.
As this is my first car and still under warranty. Where can I head to?

      • Your warranty will still be valid even if you service you car from an independent.

Your warranty is not affected if you have it serviced by a licenced mechanic.
Make sure you check around and get a good one.. some are rip offs like the dealerships.

        …Air filter 52
Get after market.. same thing, and change it yourself. If not get a friend/relative/neighbour to do it for you, it's dead simple. Guides and how to's on the net.
        …Front set wipers 55
Common rip off item.. do your wipers work ok? If ok then forget it. If not then do the same as above.
        …AirPollen filter something and disinfection(Wt??) 149
Most likely not necessary also.. see above. Easy to pop out and inspect yourself.. see youtube for how to.
        …4 x tyres = 180 dollars each
If worn then get some decent tyres from you local tyre retailer.. Michelins preferred for all round best value.
        …Wheel alignment = 88
Does it steer ok? Are the tyres worn on the sides? Usually a waste of money unless it has been bashed into gutters or in a smash.
        …Capped servcing 240
Ha ha ha.. yeah.. that means oil & filter change… Material cost under $100 for quality and about 30 min labor for an honest mechanic.

Depending on distance travelled other things might need attention too… coolant, brake fluid, etc but a good mechanic will let you know this when he does the oil change and you can get them done later.

        • when you get a new set of tires you need to do a wheel alignment, best way to check if your wheel alignment is out is to go on a straight flat road and let go of steering wheel, if it pulls to either side you need one.

        • @sammyla:
You do not need to get an alignment every time you get new tyres.
Your tyre dealer will tell you that just to add more $$ to his pocket.
The last one I went to tried to tell me I should get an alignment every 6 months. BullS!!
If your tyres are wearing even and steers fine with no shuddering then save your money for something useful.

  • Dude Air filter is like 15 bucks, go to supercheap auto, they might even fit it for you on a Sunday morning when they are not busy. or you can do it yourself.

Wipers again super cheap auto will fit it for you for $2 bucks extra(last time they did mine free i didn't have to much around cutting them to size they did it for me), two wiper blades usually cost $18.

Haha pollen filter for my golf is 50 odd bucks i think so cant be more expensive for a civic, that's a ripoff. disinfection??? i never had that lol so might not really needed.

There is a buy 3 get 1 free sale on Bridgestone tyres Turanza ER300 225/45R17 91W or Turanza ER300 225/45R17 91W, former is a fuel saver i think. Jax tyres are good, usually their wheel alignment is about 60 i think(for both front and back for your car, older cars only need front). so 185x3 =$555 for tyres. https://www.jaxtyres.com.au/tyres/brands/bridgestone.

My car has continental eco contact 5 tyres German engineered awesome tyres, did 90k on last set. i keep buying the same but your car tyre size is different i dont think you can get the same.

you can get ContiMax Contactâ„¢ MC5 225/45R17 91W https://www.jaxtyres.com.au/tyres/brands/continental, $149 each but unfortunately there is no buy 3 get 1 free sale at the moment on them(they do have the same sale sometimes).

Servicing is usually 140-180 at most places but dealers are always expensive, i do service my Golf at VW but they are pretty good. All they do is changing fuel filter and oil change and safety check(which they say they do lol)

Always bargain at tyre places and play ne against the other, say you been to Bob Jane and so on just make it up lol. Jax Hawthorn in VIC are pretty good, so are some continental dealers.

    • if the wipers are like the 2010 civic, you cant replace the blade, you need to buy the arm which is shaped so you need to get the honda part.

tyres are a certain size that only merc bmw and honda use so were around $150 if I remember correctly. you dont need to go to the dealer for them, go to a tyre dealer like Kmart.

      • Yeah from the 55 dollar quote it doesn't sound like the arm, just the rubber. i don't really recommend Kmart they are not the cheapest. i agree with you dealers charge way too much for Tyre replacement haha.

    • Certainly a few pointer sammyia! Good on ya.
Will get to calling up around for those tyres.
      Cheers!

Good on you mate, i still recommend servicing at the dealer as 240 is not a bad price. other items get them elsewhere.

  • The capped servicing is not too bad at $240.
But I would recommend To stay away from dealership for other items except air filter if you can't DIY.

The the wipers you could do yourself when you can see their performance has degraded. I have never had much luck with non Honda blades so just get them from the dealer when needed. Which is every two years or so. For pollen filter there might be some video on YouTube showing how to clean it yourself.

As for the tyres, you should know the condition of them, it is literally a two second look at the tread wear indicators. Your cars owners manual would also show this.

If you want to avoid this type of bill shock you really need to educate yourself so you can recognise when you're being taken for a bit of a ride. It also means that you need to take responsibility. If you wisen up to the dealers 'tricks' and tell them to not do those wipers and tyres but neglect them yourself you could find yourself in a world of pain on a dark and stormy night. Stupid wipers don't clear the screen so can't see that obstacle, slam on brakes and stupid bald tyres don't grip so crash!!

  • Just anyone was wondering, I went for Bridgestone Potenza RE003 when they had the Buy4for3 offer. 175 each.
It is a bit more than I wanted but the offer helped.
The Civic already had a Bridgestone range so peace of mind I believe.
    Thanks for everyones input!
Hope you all had wonderful New Year!
