Sony Xperia no alarm when powered off

So discovered today my alarm won't work if I turn the Sony phone off over night to save battery. Before this I've had Nokia and then Huawei phones. All used to power up when the alarm went off.Any ideas /work arounds? Phones that do still have this function?

That was a feature of the Symbian OS and I don't believe is possible in any modern mobile OS.

    • My gingerbread phone (THL W8, and the Alcatel One-touch dualsim) had an option to schedule power on /off. Basically you could set a time for the phone to switch on and off. Alarms would boot the phone too.

Wonder where that feature has gone to on modern Lollipop / Marshmallow devices.. maybe security reasons.

      • Just tried it on an Alcatel 4.5 running lollipop. Works no problems.

    • Long live Nokia! I just replaced my Nokia battery that I thought was dead, and lo and behold it still works ! this is my phone that's been around since mid-2000s.

  • Unfortunately, my understanding is that most new Android phones these days don't allow auto-wake from full power down - see http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s5/477128-ca…

    • Worked fine on my good ole Huawei Y550 …until someone stole it!
That ran Jelly Bean off memory, and the sony is KitKat. Not that much different I would have thought.
      Cheers for the link.

  • Put it in airplane mode? Display will be off and radio will be off so hopefully power draw will be low.

    Leave it plugged in overnight?

    • Trying to conserve power when out bush. No excuse for not having this feature on every phone really.

      • Get a powerbank or 2, use as night charge.

  • Both my recent Sony's drop 1 or 2 or 3% overnight, is it even worth it?

I'd just buy a dock and have it charge on my bedside table - ebay is usually cheapest. Also looks nice.

Sounds good. My xperia E4G drops 12% over night in flight mode.

      • Close all the programs running in the background

        • That is with every app closed manually. But cant shut down the proprietary Sony and Telstra apps. I think I'll just grab a Huawei P6 with cashback deal. The Huawei was a great phone compared to Sony. Maybe Apple, Samsung, Sony think its a potential security risk. Just a heads up for anyone getting a new Sony/ iPhone Etc and just assume (Like I did) the alarm will work. Luckily only an angry missus when I was still asleep. Didn't miss a flight or similar.

        • @tunzafun001: my z is great, if you contact Sony they can give you the program to reload your phone with no telstra bs.

        • @Slippery Fish:

Cheers, a clean rom would be good.

      • something is wrong with your phone/battery then to use that many%.

Just tried it out on a $35 Alcatel Pixi 4.5 running Lollipop. Works no problems at all. So it can be done…if your phone is less than $50! Sigh!

    • so that means you can never completely turn the phone off, thats not a feature I would want.

  • 4Gx Buzz works..

  • the sony will use just about no power during the night anyway (well maybe 2%), use Stamina mode.

    • I emailed Sony several times for battery benchmark info etc and they mostly don't reply, got one email that said the battery usage was normal (around 8% over night in stamina mode), 10-12% in flight mode. Also expected the phone to have Nfc and for some reason the shake and win app doesn't work. I would have returned it, but bought it from Dicksmith (my store closed in the first week).

  • ive got a z3 compact and i turn off mobile data through the night to save battery. try it instead

  • On Nougat, doze is working pretty well, 1-2% overnight, sony phones charge is to 90% and an hour before you take it off charge (it collects data when you take it off charge every morning) it charges it to 100% using qualcoms quick charge 3.0 charger.

Loving my XZ Dual platinum i bought form hong kong. New model in the works, announcement is imminent.

  • Just tried this with the Oppo F1S, set the alarm, shut the phone down, and it has just powered up (1 minute before set time) and sounded the alarm when the clock ticked over…
