Artificial Lawn in Sydney

Anyone has put good artificial grass?
How much does decent one cost?

Prefer this than mowing.
Thanks

  • Artificial lawn looks awful.

Please don't. Neighbour across the road has it and it's disgusting.

    • Still not decided.
Not sure the missus will approve:)

You can DIY, I did with a high quality product circa 4 years ago. All fine but order a thick grass with some brown dead blades in it, it is very convincing, just make sure the shine/gloss level is at a minimum and buy a thick one.
For me it all works well and saves mowing, weeding and water. I purchased mine from a respectable carpet place - tip ask if they have any old rubber style underlay from carpet pullups, gives an extra spring to the "grass" and I was given mine for nix, saves them dumping charges!!.

    • How much per square metre?

  • If you're sick of mowing, you can always plant or do other things.

    • Someone still has to cut the lawn

        Sorry, should have been clearer.

You could plant natives and mulch, use ground cover or pebbles etc.

  • maybe try a moss lawn … they are very therapeutic … or so I have heard.

    • You need to be a gardener to grow moss lawn

Aren't you supposed to maintain artificial turf with a special powered brush to make it stand up again after people walk on it for a bit … a bit like mowing?

    • Didn't know about this

I do lawn mowing about 5 times in a year I think it's not that bad.

just buy a couple of hundred green textas and get some kids round for some colouring in !

Apparently artificial grass gets pretty hot, that is the reason I'd avoid it. IMO you either need to mow your lawn, or put in some gardens - depending on how you want to use the space.

We installed Synthetic grass on our lawn, and it looks pretty darn great. Our real grass before was getting annoying to maintain, and patches kept on dying during the summer.

The syenthitic grass absorbs the sunlight pretty well so gets pretty warm. As a result it is incredible to lay down on!

The local birds soon realised this, so now I have like 10 doves sunbathing on my lawn at any given time.

However that is because we hardly walk on it. Do not place it in a high traffic arrea as it will flatten out and look terrible. So long as you use it lightly it will look beautiful.

I know a couple of people who have had it done locally, one directly opposite. It looks good.

  • My cousins have had theirs for years and you can't even tell its fake (they spent quite a bit).
Most of the cheap ones look pretty terrible though
