Credit Card for Frequent Flyer

Hi Ozbargain Family,

i previously had a ANZ black card that earns me 75K QFF points for $0. It is now coming towards the end of first year. So i'm looking for another $0 annual fee credit card that earns heaps of QFF or any credit card that provides rewards greater than the annual fee. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

  • Westpac has a 50k qantas points bonus for $0 annual fee the first year. Earns 1.5QP per $ spent on the amex card.

  • Usual Amex cards have referral bonus points. Amex discovery is 15000 points subject to meeting spending requirements but no annual fee.

Have a look at the general Credit Card guide first: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/credit_card_guide

Note that there are 3 free Amex's: Qantas Discovery, Essential, and Velocity Escape. Each one has its own benefits that you can see on the amex website.
Then if you are interested in an Amex apply using a referral for bonus points: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/american_express_referrals

So i'm looking for another $0 annual fee credit card that earns heaps of QFF

Amex Qantas Discovery is $0 fee, earns QFF, but maybe not heaps :-) It earns 1 pt/$. This is 0.667% (if redeemed as giftcards, and joining Qantas AutoRewards) to 1% and over (as often valued by others if redeeming flights).

To explore other Amex cards in general, or Qantas earning cards, have a look at my comment which has link to all Amex offerings. To narrow down, select criteria you want on the left, e.g. Qantas points. Some may give more pts/$, with annual fee. Note: all application bonus quoted in that link is for applying directly. Applying via the referral wiki will give you a higher bonus.

  • I am in the same boat as you…just called ANZ and they were only willing to waive half of the annual fee. Cannot justify paying $225 odd for a credit card.

Bit of a scenario ringing around and updating all my details but will do it anyway. Might have to look at the Westpac one.

  • Interested in the Westpac card.
I am not currently a Westpac customer. Do I just need to open an esaver account or something to get current customer status to avoid annual fee?

    • Yes, I did this earlier in the year. You can open an account online and then apply for the credit card as an existing customer the same day - just bear in mind that many of the savings accounts have $5 monthly fee.
