"does not carry the required Electrical Safety Certifications for Sale or Supply in Australia"

And therefore probably voids your home insurance if it does burn your house down.

I don't have home insurance, so jokes on you!

    • Save $10 buying this instead of buying a few adaptors
    • lose $500k+ when your house burns down and your insurance is void

    OzBargain logic.

please supply any reference to a single home burning down, insurance being denied, and the cause being due to a power adapter with non compliance…
      ?

      • Not an example of causing fire, but a few people have died as a result of dodgy uncertified chargers. Here's an instance from back in 2014

        http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/faulty-usb-phone-charger-blamed-fo…

Safety is not a big priority in the design and manufacture of these items. Avoid uncertified mains electronics if possible, it's not worth the increase risk. Here's a youtuber who takes cheap electronics apart and points out the flaws https://www.youtube.com/user/bigclivedotcom/videos - It's troubling how much of this stuff is in use out there…

It's troubling how much of this stuff is in use out there…
and how much of it still has an A-Tick..

I have one of these power boards and its build better than any other (with the exception of a belkin) power board in my house, and the others are all 'A-Tick' approved

        • @3: An overly-broad statement, for sure. Chinese manufacturing quality runs the gamut, just as in many countries. Without doubt there are many horrendous cheap, unsafe chargers around, to be avoided like the plague. But I think Xiaomi is a very respected manufacturer and it's reasonable to assume these items would have no safety issues in their design. The point regarding lack of Australian certification stands, and is a valid one.

I've been using one for near on 12months…great product.

As for voiding your house insurance, well you must have a shitty policy if that's the case. Any AC product purchased from Asia, USA, UK, Europe will not have Australian certification. It certainly doesn't void your warranty in case of fire. Further more, any old appliance in your house (purchased in aus) will not comply with the current standard. Again, will not void your warranty.

I'd certainly feel safer using a xiaomi board than a $3 board from the local bargain shop.

  • Any one have bought items from them before?
    any feedback?
    shipping time to AU?

    • I'm pretty sure I bought a $2 or $3 screwdriver set from them once and it took about 2 months to arrive (but I could be mistaking them for some place else).

      • Think this site works like Aliexpress, eBay etc. Different sellers listing products, so really depends on each seller.

I've got a few of these and they're easily my favourite powerboards. The USB ports work perfectly and the power plugs accept all my dodgy AliExpress electronic devices with us & uk plugs. Incredibly my house hasn't burned down yet but I'll report back WHEN it happens.

  • I've given this a shot, will see what happens. Weirdly it was listing as AUD on the site, but when I went through to PayPal it was USD$8.99. Which PayPal was converting to AUD$13. So I just paid in USD on my 28 degrees card in PayPal which should be around AUD$12.52. Not that I really care about 50c here or there (so I should probably give back my Ozbargain membership card! ;)

Coupon is just for 1 item and can only be used once, If you buy more than 1, the others won't get discount, may need to create more accounts to buy more.

  • is that an AU plug?

    • +3

It's actually a Chinese one pictured AFAIK - the socket is inverted compared to ours which is why the cable looks like it comes out of the top. Australian plugs are supposed to have the active and neutral wires insulated (thin coating of black plastic on the pins) to reduce the likelihood of something shorting out on the pins if the plug isn't quite all the way in. The lack of insulation combined with the cable hanging out of the top of the plug could be a small risk - it will probably still plug into the wall fine, however I wouldn't recommend using any uncertified mains products.

Edit: for the curious, here's a description of the difference (from http://www.worldstandards.eu/electricity/plugs-and-sockets/i… ):

Australia’s plug/socket system is codified as standard AS 3112. Although there are slight differences (the pins of Chinese plugs are 1 mm longer and the sockets are installed with the earth contact facing upwards), the Australian plug mates with the socket used in the People’s Republic of China (mainland China).

    • It will plug into Australian wall outlets without need of any adapter.

I own 4 of these (one in each room) and I find their quality is great! Highly recommended at this price!

  • Even though the blacks is out of stock, the white ones are still available.

  • Thanks :( white still in stock

  • Just bought a white one. Thanks!

  • Hmm, only three ports? :(

  • They're back in stock, but the discount code no longer works.

  • Sorry, the coupon code can't be used on a discount item.

  • Have anyone received their orders? I ordered on 27 Dec. Based on tracking information, the shipment started out in Spain on 9 Jan, transited in Switzerland on 10 Jan, then left Switzerland on 11 Jan. And that was the last of it.

    • paid on 26/12 and received about a week ago.

  • Mine came today, using the board to charge my Redmi note 2, supports quick charge I'm happy :)

  • Mine came Monday. Forgot I'd ordered it.

  • Thanks. My friend placed his order 1 day after me and got it yesterday. But his was sent from China. For some reason my board was dispatch from Spain :(
