Bought this at $130 and I havent looked back since…

There is no mention of a reversing cameras in the spec's. You sure you got the same model?

You sure you got the same model?

Yes, that's why he said he hasn't looked back.

        • Ooooooooh.
          You ruined Manic's joke….

  • did they release CPL filter for this?

  • says $133 for me

    • Did you apply code? Works for me

      • DOH! Sorry its been a long year, and Im really tired.

    • Did you change the currency from $AUD to $USD?

If not, you can do this by clicking the option that says Ship To Australia / AUD and then select currency as USD

Just be aware that there is a new (Dec 16) A119S model with improved night vision and presumably other enhancements.

This GB deal is mighty tempting but the allure of improved model for an extra $10-#20, mmmmmm …….

Just be aware that there is a new (Dec 16) A119S model with improved night vision and presumably other enhancements.

Sony sensor is the main change and worthwhile getting for the better performance.

      • +2

Anyone got a deal (or seen a price) for this model?

    • Thanks for the heads up. So is there a deal or where do you buy A119S?

    • +1

      the allure of improved model

There is certainly the allure of a newer model, but the jury's still out:
      https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/viofo-a119s-changes.21…

If you drive a lot at night with no headlights on (or set it up for parking mode), and/or didn't like the wider angle/fisheye view of the A119, then the A119S is definitely for you.

[I do need a second one, and still tossing up getting a second A119 or A119S.]

    • Could you please post link for A119S

      • +1

It appears GearBest doesn't have A119S for sale yet. FoxOffer does.

  • got 1 thanks.

  • If only I knew this deal yesterday. Bought 1 from an ebay local seller for $119 with ebay 10% code and it' already shipped. :(

  • is GPS that crucial?

I was thinking of getting the cheaper 118c this week from gearbest.

    • +1

No it's not but if you're wanting to save a bit of money then at least look at getting the A119 non gps.
The image quality difference between the A118C and A119 is worth it.

The A118C is pretty poor at night especially.

      • The A119 non GPS is not on sale at Gearbest and comes out more expensive than the GPS model.

    • Sometimes the gps feature can be helpful.

I happy and confident with my purchase. I can easily read plate at night time!

    • Bought one a few months ago, and the gps doesnt work…

      • I think they've got a revised GPS mount now.

    • Not crucial but there is the convenience in that the 12v power plugs into the GPS which then powers the camera via contacts. Thus, the actual camera can be easily attached & removed with no cable plugging/unplugging.

      • Thus, the actual camera can be easily attached & removed with no cable plugging/unplugging.

The USB port location on the top is also better than on the side.

Still waiting for my unit i bought from the last deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/278573) … hasnt arrived after a month

    • Got mine, took maybe three weeks? Was the GB rep on OzB any help?

    • I ordered mine on November 28 and it arrived last week. Have you checked your order status? Is it marked as shipped?

      • Yep its shipped, but it still says its on its way to australia (according to netherlands post).
I had another look at the confirmation email and it said it could take 10-25 business days so i suppose its still within that period - I wont raise it with gearbest yet as its still within the 25 busienss days , maybe they took a while it process it.

(I also ordered mine on the 28th)

        • ordered mine at the start of the year express post (paid extra for it) and its been difficult to get an answer from a rep.
Let me know if you have a contact!

        • +1

          @JBHBHBBHJBHJHB:

received mine on the 4th of jan .. so took about a month and a week to arrive. (i didnt get express post)

Didn't end up contacting them directly… but there is an ozb rep you may be able to try.

          good luck!

        • @SmiTTy:

          thanks

  • Is anyone using this at the rear? I'm wondering if sticking to the rear window tint will damage the tint?

    • I'm wondering if sticking to the rear window tint will damage the tint?

When you remove it the tint will rip off. You can cut out an area of tint before you mount or risk the tint coming away under the weight and having to retint the rear window.

Alternatively fabricate a mount like a rigid piece of plastic connected to the body that goes over the tint that you attach the GPS mount to or have a bracket attached to the body that holds the GPS mount against the tint.

  • Bought 2, will upgrade to the S later on if really needed, but the A119 for now is more than enough.

    • Ordered on 27th, delivered today. Pretty good service!

guess what I found, same company, same chip, different case.

    • Looks like A118, A119 is a different model apparently.

      • Its a little bit different, but the price in this link is in CNY, and I believe 119 is export model as I cannot find any model number in its supply page. The price is purchase in bulk. anyway, I always ask my friend to buy from Taobao directly and post it from China to here. much cheaper, faster with DHL or EMS and even TNT. For the value I do recommend 360 dashcam, price is around 400CNY but quality is really decent.

  • Been looking for my first dashcam, just bought this one, hopefully it's good! :)

I noticed a few reviews mentioning the optional CPL filter, reckon it's worth getting?

    • +1

Different car front windscreens reflect the dashboard differently. You have to try first on yours and see whether you have lots or little glare, then decide if you need the CPL filter or not.

      • That makes sense, thanks for the advice! :)

    • I noticed a few reviews mentioning the optional CPL filter, reckon it's worth getting?

Our Golf's windscreen slopes a fair bit, so I think the CPL is almost essential.

  • I am waiting for the A119S for my back camera…

I have been used A119 for months and it's a very good dashcam…

  • Can someone advise:
    1) do these take a SD/Micro-SD? (Couldn't see on the spec listing). (It's got "micro" for "micro"phone and "micro"-usb for output - but what about a card?)
    2) do we need to purchase a separate mounting bracket.

    • 1) Micro SD
      2) No

  • How long is the capacitor charge last?
Can this be used to record while parked (ie. with motion detection if someone bump into the car while parked).

    • Yes - BUT - you'd need it hard wired into a line that is always on. There is info on this if you google.

      • Thanks

      • Is it possible to power it with USB also, or does it only allow hard wiring?
i.e. can I just do lazyman install now then do it properly later on?

        • It is powered via your car's cigarette jack (also known as 12V socket).
There is no need for hard wiring.

The question above is "what if I want the camera to run 24/7, not just when I am driving?". In that case, you need to hardwire.

    • Capacitor charge last for less than a minute

Got one of these 6 months back. For the price, unreal. Picture quality is great. Getting the sucker proper wired in today (wire hidden under trim). Picture quality is great. Make sure you get a decent suitable SD card. Wrong ones seem to work ok until you are reviewing and the video errors while playing. It's not obvious that the card is an issue until you play back video!

So it says you shouldn't use SanDisk ultra cards for dash am as they are TLCs…. However I have one in my GoPro, works fine no issues at all.

You honestly believe that article? Anyone tried? I see no difference really. If it works on GoPro recording 1080p why not a dashcam?

      • It's not about being able to record 1080p or not, it's that dash cams require high endurance cards for the constant writing and rewriting.

        • Then in that case what cards have been on bargain list here? Would the Samsung Evo UHS 1 do the job?

I got a couple of different cards eg. Class 10 SanDisk Ultra, SanDisk Extreme UHS-1, Samsung Evo UHS-1

Only thing about endurance I can think of is heat due to constant read and write

        • @neonlight: I have used two Samsung EVO cards on two different dash cams (A118c and G1W-C) for nearly a year, both have been working flawlessly.

        • @edfoo:

Thanks for your input. I will use those then. Cheers! =)

      • I accidentally bought the Sandisk one and thought it would be fine. It seemed to recored fine, but when playing back video, 3 mins in it errored and exited. I found all the video files suffered that same fate at some point. Some near the start, some a fair way in. I bought one of the recommended ones, have had no probs, so I actually do believe it.

        • I used to use Sandisk Ultra in my previous dashcam too and quite often I would have corrupted clips that wouldn't even play. A few times the entire card would stop working and I couldn't even format it.

Now I've switched to Lexar 633x and it's been flawless.

  • So how does the gps work regarding maps? Does it ship with a world wide no apparent or do you load Australia? No one has issues with 2" screen?

    • +1

      Gps just records your coordinates.
      No problem with screen.
If you want to replay the footage you will use micro sd on larger screen device anyway.

You won't be looking at screen except while focusing it during initial setup.

    • +1

GPS isn't for seeing maps or directions, it simply logs the location so you can view it on a map when you play it back on your computer and for showing your speed too.

      • Thanks for the answer, this counts me out, so I can sleep now
