Car Cleaning with Clay Bar

Hi guys

I have a clay bar, but I don't have the spray solution that normally comes with the clay bar that you purchase at the shops.

Can I
1) use car cleaning solution mixed with water like you normally would do when washing a car and put it into a spray bottle

2) just water

3) buy specific clay bar spray solution

Thanks dirty SUV

  • Option 3 otherwise Option 2 is fine.
    Personally, I wouldn't do Option 2.

    • Whoops, I meant option 1 is fine

  • Option 3, get a detailer spray

  • +2

Get a proper clay bar lubricant or you risk leaving more swirls and etchings in your paint than before you started.

    • This. So much this. Completely defeats the purpose of using a clay bar otherwise.

  • What I normally do is use the car shampoo with a bit more concentration and water. Get a clean mit dip in bucket and "wash" car again whilst claying. Final rinse and dry car before polish/wax. I assume you know to fold back the clay to get a new spot to use for claying. This is all done after washing car first once then wash and clay in case you think you can wash and clay the first time around.

    • Of course always wash the car completely before using the clay bar .. I just had an extra clay bar but ran out if the dedicated spray thst came with it…

Using the car shampoo will be a lot more convenient… Not to mention economical.

      Thanks

      • I've been doing car shampoo for past 5 years. No extra swirl marks from claying. Using Meg's Gold class. Save a few $$ :) give it a try

  • Normal car wash solution using a good quality wash and wax will be fine. Remember the car should already be washed and free of anything that could scratch the paint, like wise for the clay bar. If the clay bar gets dirty, don't use it.

    • Thanks always fold the clay bar to get a good new spot ..
