Rocksmith 2014 Remastered is currently reduced by 75% on Steam as part of the Winter Sale. This seems pretty cheap to me at $9.99 USD. The Remastered edition was launched in October 2016 and includes six bonus songs.
A lot of DLC tracks and song packs are also reduced as part of the sale. I picked up the Megadeth song pack and You Don't Know What Love Is by The White Stripes. :-)
Good luck with finding anywhere that sells it without the game now, cheapest place I saw was ebay.
You can buy a 6.5mm to 3.5mm adapter and just plug straight into your computers line in, it may work, it didn't work great when I tried it but you can pick one up from jaycar for pretty cheap.
I was looking at this option, latency was going to be my biggest issue.
I couldn't find it without the game, cheapest I got it was $50aud on amazon way back.
Bought the cable on its own a while back (cable in box) on ebay for $20 aud.
Pretty lucky steal - the seller was aussie based and was selling it for $40 with free shipping but there was the "Get this item for $20" promotion right underneath the buy button.

If you already have an audio interface I've read that you can play the game with it instead of buying the cable, so that might be an alternative :)
This is an excellent game to learn real guitar with - good lessons and there are fun simple arcade games to practice repetition.
I bought the XBox game with cable last year new for $50. Kept the cable and sold the game on eBay for nearly $60. I'm sure that's not helpful, but a possible option that worked for me to play this on PC.

You need to also get some other app (made by some Aussie developers) to do it. Sorry but no time to google but easy to find. The app costs about $20 though from memory.

General consensus is you get some bad audio lag. Not sure if it is worth doing.
I don't know about how others will find it but to me Rocksmith was a huge disappointment.
With not a single reason as to why? Huge help to those of us considering getting it, especially given its popularity over the years…
