I'm never buying a PS4 game on release day ever again.

    • I have learned my lesson with NO MAN's SKY. 100% with you.

      • You bought an early access game disguised as a finished game. It's actually not that bad now with the recent free updates e.g. base building.

        • By the time they released the update I already got the Platinum trophy. Now I don't want to give it a shot because I already played everything, finished it and traded my copy. But you are right I have seen videos of it now looks more polished and good than before. Cheers And Happy New year.

not only one games lol, learn about early adopter fee.

      • +1

As well as Fallout 4 got it on release date still haven't touched it since it's current price is going under $20ish, I did regret paying full price. :(

    • +2

Purchase on a credit card with price protection if dropping within a few months.

    • Much to be learn young Jedi. If you got games to play or got backlog never buy a game on release wait a few months minimum to get a discount else 1/2 year mark is good

    Great TV for $898

  • Happy new year waving bear :)

What's the difference this Sony tv and the x8000d

    • +18

      roughly about 1000D

      • Funny. Just did a quick google search and seems the 8000 model has some more features over 7000d as well as edge back lit as oppose to direct. I'm let to believe edge is more efficient

        • +9

Look at rtings.com the x8000d is a lot better with image quality and has a wide colour gamut for HDR. HDR without high colour gamut renders HDR a moot point.

        • +2

@adrianhughes1998: yep no doubt 8000d is far superior and thinner unit too.

        • +1

@Gavman: true i ordered x8000d last week now waiting for it to arrive. Has the thinnest bezels actually out of the entire Sony range. Only got 43 inch size but it's ok.

        • @adrianhughes1998:

I guess I will wait until x8000d is around the same price then I will get one at $900

Clearly they are getting rid of x7000d stock

        • +1

@neonlight: it is at this price (or at least it was last week) @ Sony store

        • +1

@adrianhughes1998: I did as well. Mines in back order but it was too good to refuse. 43" is perfect living room size in a regular apartment. Also considering free shipping save 35-50$ usually charged by jb and HN,TGG its and even better deal

        • @Gavman:

Not for the 49inch I think that was $999

        • @neonlight: you can't wait until it is that price because the x8000d is no longer in stores. And Sony always does boxing day sales because they are clearing out the models.

New models will be announced at CES in January this is how it works

        • @neonlight:
          8000D is normally about $2000.
However I've seen Sony store deals on here for $999 a few times. Wait and see a few weeks if you can

        • @neonlight: if u factor in shipping it's not far off

  • I'm just looking for a tv for movies etc, is the Sony a decent deal? The closest I can see in price for the same model is $1195 so seems like a bargain if ok for movies etc

    • GoodGuys have it cheaper ($895 + $35 Delivery). Pretty good deal.. Ud be challenged to find a better sub $900 high end brand.

  • OMG I bought the 60" Samsung from HN for $1700 two days ago now it's on sale for $1495. Time to trigger the price protection feature on my credit card… Arrrghhhhhh

    • What card offers that?

      • +2

Surely you're read comments about it in the many years you've been a member… OzBargainers never want to pay too much for a deal, even after they've bought it.

        OzBargainer basics - price protection:
A feature of some Credit Cards
eg 28Degrees - Shopper's Protection costs 0.5% of the monthly closing balance of your account, up to a maximum monthly premium of $50.
So FREE (card & Shopper Protection) if you pay off CC each month😯

        • +2

Actually the first time I've heard of it surprisingly, although I did do a little research after asking the question. Found the following https://www.canstar.com.au/credit-cards/2-litte-known-but-gr…

Amazingly the Coles Mastercard offers 24 month protection, although I guess many electrical items would be well out of stock by that time.

        • +2

          @Gravy:
Quite a few things to consider when taking out price protection including your buying habits - cost of cover + card, maximum price difference covered ($300-$1000), price protection for same product at same retailer only or all, period of cover (from 21days to 2years). Canstar link is good for comparisons - bookmarked😯

If cover is charged as % of all purchases in month, consider if you want to buy your groceries, fuel, etc with that card or just use for special purchases that may benefit from purchase protection. Consider paying off large purchases before end of billing month to avoid fee.

I've never needed to use it, so don't have it set up. But it can be added to or removed from an existing card as needed.

    • Pretty normal for discount to go further on Jan and June

Just a warning: "8bit HDR" means "no HDR".
Support for HDR games and HDR UHD Blurays requires 10bit colour.

    • X8000d is 10bit right? So that means PS4 Pro will not get HDR on this X7000D

      • By all reports and reviews and everyone that owns one.. yes it's 10bit

      • HDR now has a standard body, just meeting the 10bit is theoretically HDR capable however there are other factors like does it display 1000nits. If it can't then it's not Ultra HD Premium or some rubbish the HDR body came up with. I know the hisense 7k series is HDR but only at 400nits so if HDR is important going forward just do some research before hand. Manufacturers have been misleading consumers up until the HDR body was formed :)….

I read all this today trying to figure out the heck HDR meant n do I need it hehehe

        Clear as mud right???

Note:using hisense as an example because I've been reading up about it

  • With Just Cause 3 you're far better off finding a XL edition on sale. They haven't discounted the season pass yet, but I've seen the XL edition for around $40.

I bought the medici edition at launch for about $69

Why the neg? The OP consists of 5 posts, in which the tv cheaper at TGG was already mentioned?

    • +4

      Bit harsh …

Gee that was quick, I checked this morning and it was $1095 :)

  • +4

I think it might be a better idea to pay $100 more for a better X8000D model…

    X8000D

    • with free shipping.. might need to wait a month to receive it tho but a way better tv from roughly same price no brainer if you can wait.

  • Hisense K3300UW vs the sony x8000d? Moving into a small apartment and going from no TV to a TV so size isn't really an issue. Mostly just netflix and TV. Might do some gaming.
