  • I can't comment on the knives, but the hand blender is very good and well worth the usual $70 price

  • Is there any way to get free shipping?

  • Knives any good?

    …interesting.

    RRP 669

any comparisons with other sites and what they are selling for?

    edit: ….RRP seems greatly inflated…

heres a 15 piece set same spec for $146.90AUD
    https://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/cuisinart-reg…

    the blender $35
    https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CSB-75BC-Blender-Brushed-Ch…

although the deal sounds ok for $99….. wheres the $669 value?

RRP on knives are always complete BS. This is still a solid deal considering shipping adds about $100 AU to those links above (though doesn't include the steak knives.)

The RRP should be ignored, as it should be for most things.

Was $179 inc postage here: http://www.dealsilove.com.au/deals/cuisinart-knives/
    and
    NZ$199 here http://www.grabonestore.co.nz/cuisinart-8pc-knife-block

The knives themselves appear to be as included in these sets:
    https://www.staxappliances.com.au/home-garden/kitchenware-ta…
    https://www.chaletessentials.com.au/product/680/cuisinart-6-…
    http://cuisinart.com.au/3-piece-kitchen-set/
    https://www.choice.com.au/home-and-living/kitchen/utensils/r…

Anyhow, the knives seem to be of good quality - maybe not great. but $110 ($11 shipping for me in Melbourne) seems pretty decent. Note that if you have never had these sorts of knives before, be aware that you should avoid putting them in the dishwasher (some powders can corrode the blades, and the sustained high temperatures can also cause the handles to separate from the blades). The hand held blender is a nice bonus and makes this a good deal if you will use that.

    • nice detective work….bit of a difference between average retail of $179-$199 and RRP of $699! :P

      • Thanks - the wonders of google image search. ;-)

Actually I didn't need more knives, but my sister is setting up a new holiday apartment so got a set as I think it might make a nice house warming gift. Had a few extra things on my wish list (like the Clifton umbrella - https://www.petersofkensington.com.au/Public/Clifton-Wood-Sh…), so spread the $11 shipping over the lot.

  • Can someone please tell me the type of steel used in these knives? I would rather buy 1 or 2 knives that have decent quality steel, but if these are semi-decent it might just be a deal for me.

According to the NZ link above, they have a "Forged blade using the highest quality din 1.4116 x 45 crmov15", and squinting at the engraving on this image (http://cuisinart.com.au/cooks-knife-20cm/) seems to agree. If so, then that's maybe not great but still ok - think 'old school German steel'. Again, means do not put through dishwasher, and try to clean and dry them soon after use if you want them to last & avoid rust spots. Oh, and they will likely benefit from frequent sharpening if you use them a lot.

Cheers will likely pull the pin knowing that!

        Edit.. on second thought

        Sold Out

Early bird catches the mediocre steel

      • …and it arrived today. For what it's worth, the blades are indeed " 1.4116 X 45 Cr Mo V 15 INOX" so in other words, a medium strength stainless steel chromium molybdenum and vanadium alloy that has 0.45% carbon so yeah, decent enough.

  • This may interest some before pulling the trigger:

    • I agree learning to use the 1 good knife properly is key but fact is we all need a pairing knife, bread knife, steel etc.

    • Agree as well, to an extent - I tend to only use my large 'chefs knife' although I do use a serrated bread knife for loaves. People with smaller hands (eg kids) and/or who cook less benefit from the different knives though - easier and safer to use. As an aside I remember watching a chef in Hong Kong using a massive cleaver to do everything from cutting through bones to carving incredibly delicate flowers out of vegetables. Experience is obviously important. ;-)
