  • great for anyone with hearing problems

More like great for those living with someone who has hearing problems. Loud headphones are a leading cause of hearing damage….

Best to check your facts first…

I use the better Sennheiser RS195 - no problems with volume ever being loud. (Not loud enough for my liking.)

Headphones such as these are designed for & used by people with hearing difficulties - recommended & supplied by audiologists. They can be worn over hearing aids. The use of headphones cuts out amplified extraneous noises, which can be a problem when wearing hearing aids.

But living with someone with hearing loss can be annoying with high volume levels, solved by person wearing headphones like these while watching TV etc.

      • The only "fact" I stated was that loud headphones are a leading cause of hearing damage. Do you disagree?

My point was leading towards that, given a pair of headphones, someone with significant hearing damage is probably likely to turn their headphones up to unhealthy levels, as is required to hear properly or "like they used to". I experience this with my father in law who wears a pair of RS175 (that I gave him for this reason) and the levels he uses causes me pain. I can't stop him though, so the only real winners here are the other people around him.

What is definitely a positive is the quiet environment inside the headphones, I agree, and for that the RS165 is a good choice, being closed headphones. An even better solution might be noise cancelling headphones. This allows them to leave the level lower overall and is safer for their own hearing.

    • I would rather my 80yo grandmother be able to actually hear her TV instead of watching everything with subtitles

      • Agree - just check she will wear them. My Father only tried them once & said he wasn't going to wear them again. Change can be difficult & he is fiercely independent. He was concerned he couldn't hear other sounds while wearing them & was not used to something covering his ears. Lucky I didn't pay for them😯

If the person has hearing loss, they may be lucky enough to be supplied with a unit like these - FREE. My Father was supplied with Sennheiser RS195 TV/HIFI headphones free by his audiologist, but he is a DVA client & wears hearing aids. Now as he didn't want them…

  • Rs175 was down to $267 on sale at JB last week, I think it only ended yesterday as well so maybe worth a chat with the sales guys there to see if they can help out at all. Mostly identical price to amazon but local stock…

    Pricehipster reference -

    https://pricehipster.com/product/OwG_D4F82XaRwn-BwOWHVQ~r1s7…

    • It was $277.60 plus $5 delivery.

  • $259 at Mwave.

I got the RS175 on special at JB (online) last week for $277, their normal price must have gone up though as it said I was only saving ~$100, not $222?

    Difference between them here

    • JB is funny, they sometimes at least list savings based on the price prior to the sale which is a good thing IMO. For example, just prior to Chrissie there was a car head unit tagged instore at $188, JB was selling it for $158 due to a Sony rebate to the store. The saving quoted was based on the $188 which is the price it returned to after a few days. But the $188 was already heavily reduced from $260 and even over $400 when new model. They never stated savings based off old prices.

  • My Sennheiser RS 160 still in excellent condition after 4 years of daily usage. Back then I paid $99.
