  • I'd say an iPhone 6 either second hand or from ebay.

    the choices are :
iphone 6 - but you will be paying high price to live in a jail…
someone will recommend LG but with the bootloop issue, well…
then lumia, but windows mobile environment is basically very limited, so….
then s6, camera is superb, but no external storage….

all are second hand to be within your budget.

Ah ok, sorry I should have specified I'd prefer new and android

      • then it will be hard…. tried grey imported phones
nothing good and cheap in this world - unless price error :)

  • what about the lg g5?

Xiaomi Mi 5s, same camera sensor in Google Pixel.

Or you can wait for the discount on Nexus 6P. I do not recommend Nexus 5x as it has some problems.

If you do not mind the weaker low light performance, Huawei P9 is good too.

  • Definitely Lumia's, get the 950

Any tips to find one rather than signing a plan? I've been looking for one since I missed the last year sale.

    What about the Moto G4+?

    • i reckon this is a good option. 2nd option would be OnePlus 3 (fantastic 16mp OIS enabled flagship camera)

  • Moto g4 Plus is only 320 bucks on sale often here on ozbargain. the camera is almost as good as iphone 6s IMO

    • Yeah i like the sound and price of the Moto g4+, the only thing i wish it had was a removable battery

not many phones have removable battery these days. Moto g4 plus gets very good battery life anyway, almost 1.5 days

Ok I pulled the trigger, $320 delivered from eglobal

        • @mikey13b:

nicely done. although i heard eglobal is mediocre for warrant claims? just hope you get a non defective unit. it's a great phone for 300 bucks!!!!

Oh really, well I guess they cant really have a leg to stand on if they sell a faulty product I would hope…

  • is the Lumia 950 available on plan?

  • If you don't mind the battery life, LG G4 is an excellent choice. It's powerful and dirt cheap. You should be able to buy one for $300
(I had no problem with this phone except a mediocre battery life)
If you want to buy a phone released in 2016+, It's gonna be tough to find a good phone under 500 IMO. Buy a slightly older model.

    • How long have you had it? People on reddit.com/r/lgg4 seem to be reporting bootloops as a fairly common hardware problem. Generally seems that people have experienced it after about 12 months or so resulting in the phone being bricked.

I'd have bought a G4 or G5 by now but LG seems to have terrible quality control on its hardware so I'm hoping for a sale on Australian stock with 24 month warranty. Great phone but without strong warranty the risk is too great imo.

      • I've used it for over a year now. No issue so far.
