Photo Printing

Hi all,

Where do you guys usually print your digital photos?

I've tried Snapfish 2 years ago (when it had specials on Ozbargain - woo!), but do not like the end results because the colours were too washed out I feel.

I tried Harvey Norman twice.. rather inconsistent.. the first one turned out OK, the second one turned out quite bad - yellow tint in all the photos.

Picture quality and longetivity are the main points I am after.

Any recommendations or suggestions?

Thx

P.S. Not sure the best category so I thought Home & Garden will suit - please move to more appropriate category if required

    Officeworks

  • I've never had any issues with snapfish? Have made a bunch of photo books through them.

    • you like the colours? bit washed out last time i used them ~1.5 yrs ago.. when did you last use them?

      • They look fine to me? My wife has a better eye for that sort of thing than me and she has no issues with them. In the last month or two (when they had a 60%? off sale) to print my daughter's cake smash photos.

We also recently got some "normal" photo prints for free (my wife apparently got them for downloading their app I think?) and they look fine also.

Maybe try to get those free ones now and see if they still look washed out to you? I think you only have to pay for postage though. I'm surprised no one has posted the deal yet? Unless it is targeted only or this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/246206?

      • Yeah, so apparently it is 100 free prints per month for a year on IOS and Android when you order through the snapfish app.

EDIT: Could only be 50 prints pm in Android…getting conflicting information…

  • My local Joyce Mayne is good.

Try a few different local places until you're happy with the result - just depends on the individual printers.

  • I used to get them done at Big w. Somehow the colours were correct. Kmart was faded and Harvey Norman was a hit and miss. Snapfish was better a year ago but their print quality has declined in my opinion.
    Yet to try officeworks

    • Officeworks is no good. The worst compared to the others IMO.

  • does it depend on each individual store, eg. one Officeworks work OK, the other may not ?
I would've thought those stores would've used the same printers and the settings are standardised (?)

  • it all depends on the quality of the image file being printed. Unless there is a specific issue where you are getting the same images printed at multiple locations and notice a difference, I would hazard a guess that the differences you notice are almost entirely in the photos you are printing. Incorrect white balance, over exposure etc…

As a pro-hobbyist I've had photos printed at all the listed places in the comments and as long as you prep the images correctly (auto-enhance via the kiosk if unsure) the prints all come out to a decent standard.
