    Mac book air clone

    With no Mac OS

    • +13

That's already a plus over the genuine one 😀

      • +1

        👍 Agree, Windows 10 FTW!

        • -3

I don't care about Mac but Windows 10 is a POS

    • -6

      Windows!
Its like getting one of those Porsche-911 lookalike VW beetle mods, but still with the original air-cooled beetle engine.

      Is it hackintoshable?
Or at least has decent Linux drivers (power management, touchpad,…) so you can put a Mac-like destop on it?

Nah - why buy Chewy when you can get a brand-name Chromebook with similar specs, for … not much more?

      • +3

why get a Chromebook when you could get a real laptop for the same price?

        • +1

lol, what is a real laptop.

        • +3

@Barry Beetroot: something with a real operating system, not a browser

        • @mr kindface:

There is more to a laptop than windows. Believe it bro

        • +2

          @mr kindface:
Chromebooks are not locked to ChromeOS. It s a cheap way to get a real laptop (ie not too heavy for your lap) without paying window tax.

        • @manic:
Chromebooks have ARM cpu in them, meaning you'll only be able to install ARM based operating system, not Windows or X86 Linux. You could try Android but I doubt it'd be any useful without proper desktop features.
There are x86 chromebooks, but their CPUs are just too crappy for anything useful…

        • -3

          @clse945111:

Chromebooks have ARM cpu in them,

          No. You see …

          There are x86 chromebooks

          EH?

but their CPUs are just too crappy

"crappy" ? Your awesome grasp of technology is a bit over my head. Can you simplify your argument?

        • +1

          @manic:

          Can you simplify your argument?

          I think it's pretty simple ;)
Let me simplify it further for you: chromebooks have shit cpus so don't even bother wasting time fiddling with them.

          @clse945111:

don't be so ignorant. How did people cope just a few years ago when top of the line was less powerful than todays celeron?
Were their PCs slow? Were all computers "shit" back then, as you so eloquently put it? What makes them shit? Hint: bloated shitty software.

        • +1

          @manic:
Honestly though, x86 CPU's really haven't evolved much performance wise over the past few years, you might be giving Intel too much credit. Let's see if AMD can finally pick up their game.

"bloated shitty software", yeah, and what are you gonna do about it? It simply happens on any OS, any device. Your favourite macOS is one bloaty example.

So get better hardware, don't bother with shitty hardware.

        • @clse945111:

Well, its a case of matching the two. I have nearby an old Mac with Core2duo and 4GB. Runs OSX fine until Chrome memory leaks eventually bring it to its knees. I'm impressed how well Windows-10 does with 2GB on an Atom, but again it depends which apps you run.

… Hang on a minute: I just check the benchmarks, and my chromebox is faster than the above N3450. Other chromebooks have similar Celeron cpus, so have I misunderstood you?

And BTW, I'm not using OSX, though I do like their user interface, as I did Windows XP. Hence the interest in a cheap, portable mac-clone.

The battery life sounds great, from the manufacturer's web

      9000mAh Durable Battery Life
Equipped with the large capacity 9000mAh built-in Li-polymer battery, LapBook 14.1 is very perfect for long-time using.

      • Don't put too much faith in the manufacturers specs, they can't be trusted..

Chuwi is well known for exaggerating specs and features.. and support is basically non-existent..

        • +4

But it's very perfect for long-time using

        • @malouphix:

Time will tell… but I wouldn't bet on that… Chuwi is notorious for their products not living up to claimed or implied functionality…

Chuwi and Gearbest are experts at spamming/shilling, planting good youtube reviews and such, they breeze over or don't mention the faults ALL Chuwi products have…

        • @FLICKIT: Whether playing games orwatching the movies, it will guarantee everything to run more smoothly.

    • How about running OS-X in a virtual machine on top of Windows?
Would that work OK on this hardware?

And for bonus points, you can switch back to Windows for playing games.

  • It's one of this sci-fi clones that didn't quite come out right and deteriorates into some monster. But I suppose at that price you can afford to replace it with a new one before it goes insane and tries to harvest your family for body parts.

    • And having to constantly clean up that wookiee hair!

  • +1

    bought!

nah jk, not touching chewy with a 10 foot pole, their price comes with a sacrifice on quality, you get what you pay for!

source:have had both lowest and highest end chuwi tablets.

    • +1

      Why were they bad?

      • +2

They were too chewy, not crunchy.

        • Not smooth either

  • +1

Pronounced "chewy"? they should have made their branding on it more subtle to sell more ;-)

    • +2

Chewy wasn't in Attack of the Clones

    • +3

      Like Ainol?

      • Ainol's logo even looks like a chocolate starfish.

Best to root it, get their standard OS off it.

  • I'd consider it if there were an option for a larger SSD; 64GB is just too small IMO. 128GB would be enough.

    • This would be better for what you're after as a budget PC - USD$199 shipped:
      Yepo 737S

  • That looks a very good deal. I'd remove Windows though and install ChromeOS.

    • +1

You might as well import a Chromebook from amazon and get the benefit of warranty

  • If this was a good brand and available locally with a real warranty it would be a deal. In this case I don't see the value.

64GB storage is going to be painful in most usage conditions with the user always looking for ways to find more space.

  • Way too expensive for a generic brand and no warranty or after sale support.

  • +1

    Chuwi…never again

    • +1

      This.

I got the Android/Windows dual boot tablet.

      Worst tablet ever.

Heats up like crazy, dodgy windows installation, extremely poor battery… That's only the start.

  • +1

Intel Apollo Lake Celeron N3450 Quad Core 1.1GHz, up to 2.2GHz

    LOL

  • +4

"Looks like a Macbook air for a fraction of the price…"

And if I squint really hard my Camry looks like a Ferrari.

And for a fraction of the price!
