Thanks for the heads up, now I know what airline not to fly with.

    • I don't get it

      • +13

Plane full of kids, no thank-you.

      • +4

try2bhelpful doesn't want to fly with a plane load of kids. ;)

        • +4

Hahahaha thanks for being helpful :)

      • Means @try2bhelpful doesn't have kids and won't be flying with this airline as there will be many kids on the flight.

      • It's a joke. The prankster is making fun of the idea of a plane full of kids. Hope that helps.

    • Nice one ;)

    • +3

      Can relate.

Travelled with my two children recently on a 10hr flight and the couple in front were absolutely not impressed.

  • T & C
Places are limited and subject to availability in economy class reserve sub-classes.
The booking classes T, O, W, Y, B and H are not part of the Free Child rate offer.

    • how does an airline have anything to do with human rights

      • -2

It's state owned and run. The country is called qatar

        • +1

i get that but the airline itself hasnt done anything

    • +7

Has acquired the best pilots from other airlines by paying them more.

Companies regularly pay more for better employees…

      • +4

What the is wrong with that?

      • +1

… and saves paying for training, crippling the competition in the process.

        • If they do that than their pilots will soon no longer be good. Contradiction? Haters will hate?

    • I also read that, assuming you're referring to flight attendants. However, most of their staff seem to be from Europe (based on my experience with them) so if they were to 'exploit' them you'd assume they would move on. Acquiring the best pilots by paying them more might be bad for their competitors but a reassuring thought when flying Qatar. I'm not sure if people in Abu Dhabi have better working rights compared to those in Qatar but looking at the airlines, I definitely prefer flying Qatar over Etihad. I also prefer Doha's airport over Abu Dhabi's.

There's additional info on this page which may be helpful: http://www.qatarairways.com/au/en/offers/travel-festival.pag…
    - All Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth fares shown are for departures from 15 January to 28 March 2017 or 25 September to 30 November 2017.
    - All Adelaide fares shown are for departures from 15 January to 28 March 2017 or 1 October to 30 November 2017.

The offer is still applicable for other dates as well but the above windows will give you the absolute cheapest fares!

Contrary to the previous Qatar kids deal, this one is not only for Adelaide & Perth - it's a worldwide promotion so also great for those with family in Europe or the ME!

Also, you get a reasonable amount of Qantas points since it's not the cheapest fare class you're booking.
I believe you may get an additional discount of up to 15% using the promo code VISA when checking out.

    • has anyone used this promo, when does the discount apply?

      • I have the same question. I cannot see where to apply promo code when going via the kids free link. If I dont use the kids free link then only 15% off applies and it is more expensive

    • I've had a good play with different dates, via the Kids free offer and some of the others. The 15% doesn't seem to stack however according to its T&Cs it should. Best to call them and find out or speak to a travel agent and let them use their professional contacts and experience which is what I plan to do tomorrow.

      • Thanks for that , please keep me posted please

  • Anybody searched mel-lhr in jun or July? What are the prices per adult? Thanks!

    • +6

It will take you as long to answer that question on the qatar website as it has to ask it here.

      • No way!

  • +5

Not sure if it does anything more, but try this promo code if you are booking flights and don't have VISA:

Use the special promo code QRTFAU to enjoy up to 10% off*, on top of our already discounted Qatar Airways Travel Festival fares.

    • +1

Unfortunately it doesn't stack with the kids free promo, I just tried. This promo replaces the kids free one.

      • Thanks for testing, only good for those flying without kids then.

    • HSBC16 is better :)

  • Just a heads up - i couldn't get this to work ex-SYD. YMMV.

  • +1

Refuse to fly with this airline as their country stole the world cup from us. /jk

  • Child place was free on my search but the prices are insane for Melbourne to Manchester UK in October.

    • Try Another date , use more dates option , for me the difference between July and Aug $2400

    • Yes prices are insane for me also for trip to Melbourne to Lahore, for 2 adults and 2 kids, no matter what dates i select.

    • +2

I agree with you. For me, flying Adl to Dub in October 2+2 = $4400 which is a decent price but not all that great as I have a third child to bring. I'd need to pay another $1650 for (assuming the 75% of an adult fare) giving a total of $6,050 or $1200 per head on average. There have been deals to Europe/UK close to if not under $1,000 rtn so while this is a good deal the starting price is quite high.

The equivalent flight via the Emirates Global sale is $400 cheaper.

      • Given the exclusion mentioned earlier:"The booking classes T, O, W, Y, B and H are not part of the Free Child rate offer." if you were seriously considering the offer, you might want to call Qatar and see if you can book the child's fare additionally, separately through them. I think this should be possible, and you should get a rate closer to I'd imagine $1200 for that 5th person, if it is possible.

        • Yup that's what I'll be doing. Cheers.

      • +2

        Fly the babysitter with you

  • +3

Can be cheaper to pay for 1 adult and 1 child than to use this "kids travel free" deal. Check prices before you jump on this deal.

  • Can't find single flight that the promo is valid for in July, from Sydney to anywhere in Europe.

Got pretty excited too as we'd be 2 adults 2 kids and looking to book this week anyway.

EDIT: can't even find a fare that the promo works for just Syd to Doha return… Seems pretty limited, is the thing even active yet?

If anyone gets it to work I'd be interested in the pricing it shows up pretty please

    • try first week of Aug

      • +1

        Nope nothing.

Bit of a joke of a promo by the looks of it. Would like to know how many seats were ever available.

  • +1

Have been looking at the flight cost since Christmas ….This is the best discount with the "Visa" 15% coupon!

Great tip by Bozbargain - THANKS

    • Hey mate, what visa coupon? How do we get our s?

  • +1

I think I did something wrong. Went on site via link and picked the dates allowed by T&C. It shows return 9800 AUD for 2 adults + 2 kids "free" to Europe…
A Quick search on cheapflights on same dates, same dep and dest with 2 kids "not free" = 4900 AUD.

  • For those that are wondering, there are free kids tickets. I, for example, found some on Colombo - Cairo route. I know, don't get too excited.

  • I don't want to sound too patronising but when you follow the specific instructions on the promo page, it's not that hard to find some amazing deals, especially to (and from!) Europe.

  • "Up to two children (0-12 years old) can travel for free if accompanied by an adult" I just checked and for one adult, I can only add one child. So only one child per adult is permitted..:-(

    • On the same line, the next sentence says "At least one adult per child is required." Clear really!!!

  • +1

Qatar A350s out of Adelaide have awesome leg room in economy class. Best I've ever had, better than their 787s.

    • Good to know, I'll be flying out of ADL too. The problem seems to be for me flying rtn to Dublin is that the cheap return leg requires very long layovers in either Heathrow (never again) or Doha itself which might be good to experience. This makes the return leg over 40 hours long though unless I stay in Doha for a few days. I'd rather get the direct 21 hour leg but the cost is about $120 more per person :(. Multiply that by 5 people and its a big difference.

  • What a terrible deal. With 'free' kids seats it costs almost double the cost of offers on other airlines.

  • +3

Revoked my vote after checking fares. Ridiculous pricing. Not a bargain at all, rather a good publicity stunt.

    • +1

I'm currently looking at flights to the UK late Nov/early Dec and am pleasantly surprised at how cheap, 2 adults and 2 children, $3.5k!

EDIT - Booked 23/11 - 13/12 MEL - LHR $3574; very happy with that, thanks OP!

    • The cost varies greatly depending on dates. If you have a look around there are some good prices to be had, cheaper than anything else out there right now.

Thanks just booked 2 Adults, 2 Children to Egypt for $2926, April school holidays, amazing

    • +1

      Happy holiday

  • Don't forget 1.6% cashback through cashrewards :P

  • I also noticed that if you book through flybuystravel you get 10x FB points.
The discounts keep coming with this one !

  • Dont they have flights to India ? Was trying to search delhi and it cant find the city.

    • +1

      It is there Mel- Del

      • Thanks

        • any luck mate with your flights?

        • @vr4indian:

Nah… The prices are almost double from Melbourne to Delhi. I will let this go.

  • Availability may be patchy, depending on destination.
I've looked for SYD <> Dublin, and can't find availability, even in the quiet Oct/November period.
The promo looked to be valid when I searched for London, for example, in the 1st week of October

  • Thank you! You just saved me 600 bucks.
