I also didn't taste it, though I was told at the time "Smells like hell, tastes like heaven." Kind of regret not tasting heaven after smelling hell…

I've had it several times and can't say I'm a fan plus the taste lingers for quite a while. I think it's probably an acquired taste like Vegemite…

It is an acquired taste. I am not sure why popular culture suggests it is fantastic - as a first experience, it is ghastly.
