Buy Now Pay Later iPads

Anyone here know the best way to buy or if it possible to buy an ipad on things like certigy or afterpay? My child got switched to an ipad class over the holidays so now we are madly trying to find an ipad but have no funds to buy it outright now. Any ideas?

  • is that compulsory?
if not then just get android tablet. fxxxx apple

Yep compulsory so that everyone has the same platform for the teacher to teach off, otherwise our Tab A's would have sufficed.

oh.. how much apple paid (read: bribe) the government… unbelievable this can happen in non-asian country like australia.

    • I am more interested in knowing what are they going to teach on iPad?

    • if not then just get android tablet.

our experience with android tablets has been rather disappointing. this is after owning five androids (acer, nexus, galaxy + two made in china) and one ipad.

  • If you can make it into an apple store they can do finance there as well through GE finance (i think theyve been bought out recently so it may be a different company now)

Finance on tech items is a terrible idea.

    • +1

As a toy or just a "want", I agree.

But not if it's a necessity for your child's education.

  • +1

Have you considered refurbished iPad option? There's also financing option during checkout (6/12 months interest free).

    • Yeh tried that, GE did not like me.

      • Oh no, that's not good…
I'm more curious as to what would happen if you don't get your kid an iPad?
Can't the school lend one or maybe help to finance one?
Surely they don't expect everyone to be able to afford an iPad? unless on the school contract there's the thing where everyone needs to have an iPad or they'll kick you out?

So it is a case of you nominate your child to be in an ipad class, they still have traditional classes ipad free, in our case 2/4 classes are ipad classes. Parents get notified of if they were accepted into a class at end of term 4. Our child did not but there were a few drop outs so they got accepted. So instead of being able to account for buying one at the start of December we are now trying to scrounge one now.

So it is on the parents to get one and have one for the start of the year if they nominate and get accepted into the ipad class, so obviously you do not nominate if you do not intend/cannot buy one. We want to continue our child into an ipad class as it is the way of the future and by high school I would expect to be pretty commonplace.

do you not have a credit card?

    • +2

please dont go into cc debt.. it is worst than not letting your kids hand into apple

  • +3

Maybe start looking at a better suited school is one option.

Have you looked at the cost via Telstra etc. you can always remove the sim so they don't use data - I think it's around 35 a month, one option I guess.

  • +1

try through vodafone, optus or telstra, we got an Ipad pro for $64 month with a GB a data (we only use it with the wifi at home). Vodafone have them for $53 a month with 3 gb data. It obviously isn't the cheapest way to buy an ipad but if you don't have $700-800 up front…

  • Have you looked for a second hand one? There are places that sell use, refurbished ones. Just be careful if you buy one privately to make sure they are erased and removed from itunes, icloud, etc.

Maybe you have a friend who can loan you one for the class.

I have given away a couple of iPads to family/friends as I upgrade them.

    • Can you be my friend! Ironically most our friends are parents of children in the same class.

      • In all honesty if I had one lyihg around I would loan it to you. I hate to see my old electronics lying around doing nothing; I would much prefer someone was using it. My only spare, currently, is an iPhone 4. I upgrade when there is a significant leap; so our current technology is an iPhone 6, iPhone 6+, iPad mini2 and iPad mini4. We gave away an iPad 3 and an ipad mini. Have you talked to the school about if the have any options for you? I have a friend who just bought an older iPad from the school where she teaches. Best of luck with the hunt.

  • Should ask for help from the kid "too scare" to use his $600 wallet gift :)

  • +1

Do you have a local CEX? They have piles of second hand ipads.

    Also check out Apple's refurbished:
    http://www.apple.com/au/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad

Otherwise, as the rest have said, the 3G/4G models are sold on plans by the Telcos, e.g. Optus has an iPad Air 2 32GB for $32/month.

  • are you allowed to buy an ipad 2 or ipad mini? they are much cheaper now.

I'm not meaning to be rude, but if you can't afford a small sum like $600 right now, and a finance company rejected you over a very small sum (based off what I assume is a poor credit history), what makes you think financing something is a good idea? GE rejected you because they believe you don't have the ability to pay for an item like this. Maybe your best course of action would be contacting the school and explaining your financial situation. If it is a government school, there may be a mandate or requirement to supply students with an alternative when the family cannot afford to purchase the equipment.

"there may be a mandate or requirement to supply students with an alternative when the family cannot afford to purchase the equipment." - uhhh he volunteered his kid in to the special ipad class, it was not mandatory to do that.

OP doesn't sound very smart. Volunteers his kid in to an ipad class without money to buy an ipad and can't get finance for it. Your credit history but be terrrrible for you to get rejected for that.

Call the school and explain you cannot afford ipad and pull them out of the class.

  • I agree with Thornton, if you can't afford to buy one outright then surely you have more important things to spend your money on. Just tell your school that your kid can't go to the iPad class.

it's sad that you can't afford to buy IPad for your kid at school :(

  • +1

Out of curiosity what do they intend to teach on iPad that can't be learnt through traditional schooling? My little one can't talk yet so I'm a long way from worrying about this, but to be honest I'd prefer she doesn't stare at a screen all the time and practises her handwriting. Not everything will be slick colourful multimedia presentations on iPads, the higher the education level the drier the medium and content and the kids need to be prepared for that.

There's plenty of opportunity to use technology at home for assignments and play, just because you don't go to a BYO IPad class doesn't mean you'll never be good with technology?

  • Optus does the ipad air 2 for $32 per month on a 24 month contract with some data.

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/tablet/apple/ipad-air-2

Telstra and vodafone are ~$40 a month

  • If you are looking for iPad Mini, do a quick google search and you can find one for under $400.
Same for iPad Air. The best deal is an iPad Air 2 128gb for $619 from Officeworks.

If you cant afford this, Apple does have partial payment thing for 12 months with zero interest. http://www.apple.com/au/shop/browse/finance/instant_credit
This is a better option compared to buying one from carriers.

  • Before you buy one check the specs the school requires. I wish we had a choice, I would much rather my son not have to use an iPad in school. I feel like I'm paying the school to babysit while the iPad does the educating. Anyways my original post was to make sure you get the right one. Our school sent out a letter saying it had to be 32gb plus and had to be an iPad Air,2, mini 4 or an iPad Pro. Would be horrible to outlay so much money only to be told you bought the wrong one.

  • Harvey Norman offer 24 months interest free period on iPads $600 or over, if that helps. Or 12 months interest free on any purchase $300 or more.
(I would never pay $600 for an iPad, but that's another issue)

  • if you have facebook, you can try and purchase a cheap one from there.
