they sell a thai whisky there. it's interesting but reasonable and cheap. though I haven't had it for 15 years so my memory of it may be misleading

Mekhong is the best, great with cola.
Others worthy of a mention are Hong Thong and Sangsom.
For jokes, if you can find some, grab a bottle of Black Cock for the mother-in-law.

      • Sam Song is Thai. Mekhong is Lao

        • Not so.
Mekhong's motto, printed on the label, is "The Spirit of Thailand"

  • Durian, to bring back on the plane lol

    • And a spare racquet.

  • That singha thai beer is awesome

  • The only things normally worth getting at airports are the things which are duty free - and since tobacco limits are very small, and there's no/very little duty on most things now, the only thing worth getting is alcohol.

Bangkok has 2 airports, DMK and BKK. If you are at BKK and happen to be going out through Immigration, and want to eat, then the best and also cheapest place to eat is the ground floor food court. Also great for travellers before flying out.

  • Nothing.Never buy anything at the Bangkok Airport as they are very expensive and riff off, better buy stuff at the night market a night before :)

    • Op is only having a short stay at the airport

  • Without doubt one of the dirtiest cities I have ever been to :(.

Load up on supplies before you get there… food, drink, condoms, anything you need. I'll pay extra to not fly through there ever again. Everything appears nice and shiny, but its a veneer. Airport food is normally crap anyway, but I dunno man… Bangkok… *shudders.

How long is the "short stay"? Hours or days/Accommodation or hubbing it at the terminal? I'm assuming at the airport only?

    • 2 hours

      • Take a packed lunch mate ;).

  • Tom Yum and Pad Thai :)

  • I thought that there was an issue with a shoplifting scam at Bangkok airport. People have been accused of shoplifting and then have to pay a bribe to get released. Correct me if I am wrong please

There was drama with King Power Duty Free (Which almost runs the airport). Because they have open shop fronts and people were walking over the red line, and being accused of exiting the store and therefore shoplifting. You will see now that that they have lots of security staff dressed in black standing along that line. I don't know if the people were shoplifting or not, but King Power certainly suffered a lot of flak from the bad publicity. Be aware that you can't take liquids, gels etc in your carry on onto flights, even if bought at BKK airport. Flights to Aust. have physical baggage checks at the gate.

      • They usually deliver duty free after the security gates.

        • Yep I have seen that at lots of Airports. I am not so sure about BKK as I am always seeing people having their duty free confiscated at physical exam table before boarding gate.

        • @Peck:
          When in doubt ask.
I'm pretty sure i have done this at bkk with some whiskey.
but all airports in my memory can become a blur.

        • @dasher86: True :) I know that Kuala Lumpur - KLIA2 they will deliver Duty Free after security.

  • I've spent plenty of time at both airports and think they are very over priced as kingpower has a monopoly on the shopping. The duty free is expensive. Also be aware even after security you can't buy fluids and take them on the plane as you will be checked again at the gate.

      ^this
I've seen no shortage of people buy duty free grog and then have it confiscated at the 3rd checkpoint at the gate.
Agree about the overpriced goods. Mekhong is double what you'd pay in a supermarket.

  • Leicester City gear as they are sponsored by King Power.
