Today I was toying with the idea of selling my Macbook Air Early 2014 model (128GB/4GB) and purchase this instead: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Air-12-Notebook-Windows-10…
Why? I own a Xiaomi phone and I was impressed. Now I'd like to see their laptop. Can someone give me their input? Is this an alright idea? The only downside I can think of is no local warranty however Xiaomis are built well and my macbook will probably be outdated in no time.

Macbook Air probably would outperform Xiaomi one (I say probably because I don't know what you own). Xiaomi in your link is using Core M CPU and Macbook Air, as far as I remember uses Core i series. They target different devices thus they have different priorities and that tend to make Core i CPUs better performer (of course, it depends on the product, but that's the general pattern)
I personally wouldn't since laptops are hard to judge just from hardware specs.

i dont like Macs but I would keep it over the Xiaomi.
Remember its a Chinese version and even though you can choose English, parts will still be in Chinese as they show.
No, I would 100% reinstall OS with the same serial and pick English.
Super late to the comments here, but you can't.
The product key for Windows with the Xiaomi laptop is Windows 10 Chinese edition. It won't work on any other Windows version and only has Chinese as a language option.
Just to balance out the opinions, I'd say go for the Xiaomi. Clearly a part of you wants to, and it could be fun. You should only use tech you enjoy.
And Macs often sell fairly well second hand. Which isn't a reason to go one way or the other, just a fact in your favour.

The way I see it is 1) Sell an early 2014 model Macbook Air 2) Receive a new, similarly specced Xiaomi Air that just came out.
I've seen the Xiaomi notebooks in person.. the build quality doesn't feel good. Plastic materials is light but feels cheap. The price isn't even that good… Asus is a similar price and much better
I would consider the LG Gram.
Having said that, definitely apple has longer lifespans and better service.

Keep the Mac. Support for the Xiaomi,it means sending it back to China if there is a problem. $800 is too much money to gamble with.
