ALDI prices lifecycle

I am wondering how soon do ALDI discount their unsold stock?

So something goes on special on day X, sits on the shelves for a week and then goes in the back.

After a while they put it back on sale with 25%-50% discount.

Like their road bikes were on special in August and in December were sold at 50%+ discount across all stores.

When do I expect the price to go down?

Its all dependant on the manager of each individual store. They just have to clear old stock after a while to make room for new stock, so they discount as needed to do so.

For Top Ryde its usually when the next Special Buys comes out, and they need to get rid of the old Special Buys residual stock.

  • With Aldi, where it comes to discounted clearances, there hardly seems to be a pattern between stores. (Which would help greatly if all stores also discount it after a while). I have in the past waited for an item to go on discount; and if I missed it, thought I could check another store. Basically, the discounted items would be dissimilar. Nowadays, if I see something I need, I am hesitant to wait for clearance; since once it is gone, trying another store hardly helps.

  • Yeah what the previous posters said. It appears that each store is responsible for selling their allocated stock. However I have found that some stores tend to have more clearance items than others, like the Top Ryde one. Stores with less floor space tend to be more aggressive clearing stock. Whether this is due to the store ordering or being allocated too much stock, or shoppers there not keen on the specials, I have no idea.

  • I'm not sure when they mark down, but in my experience nothing good is ever left to be marked down.

The popular items sell out in my local stores when the first appear on the shelves.

    • That depends on the product. For instance, I grabbed their road bike with a 50% discount 5 or 6 month after it was on special. Cycling clothes, on the other hand, is gone by lunch time in popular sizes (M & L)
