  • Over 1million in Velocity and 200k in Qantas

  • +5

I'm an infrequent flyer. Frequent walker.

  • I currently have 340,000 points with Qantas and I am lifetime Gold. I was annual Platinum for about 10 years straight up until 2009. I got lifetime gold around 2008. I hardly fly Qantas these days. I lost about 400,000 points when Ansett went belly up.

  • 190,000 velocity
    58,000 Qantas

  • +3

Did have 1.1 million in Velocity thanks to all the help and tips from the forum and referral bonus and cc signup bonuses.

Since then that has dwindled down to 400k as we just booked out 10 year anniversary trip

Etihad First Class Apartments to London
    Singapore Suites London to Melbourne

counting down the days to both flying and the next sign up bonus card(more than likely the ANZ rewards and potentially the velocity amex when later in the year when 12months has passed.

I saw an awesome review of the apartments. looks amazing.

if you're more of a cc accumulator than a frequent flier, aren't you concerned about having a questionable credit score?

      • I only apply 1 per year so shouldnt affect it too much. Wife has been doing the same. Its the only way to get ur points up unless u flY already a bucket load. and even then u will struggle

  • why do you guys have so many? why not just spend them on stuff once you have a bunch?
180k qantas points is about $1000 if you turn it to gift cards (i know selling is better but this is easier), what does 1million points give you thats better than $5000 of free crap?

    • because 180k points is also 2 business class upgrades to the US, worth about 3 times what they are worth as gift cards. stocking them lets me spend them on upgrades at will.

1 million points is $15,000+ of business class upgrades for me. As a frequent traveller the fraction of value you get for selling (and risking all your points) or turning into gift cards doesn't make sense.

currently I have around 570k Qantas points.

    • For max value they say use on flights.

Yes i could have got gift cards, but instead for the 2 of us im out of pocket $3000(taxes etc)for flights that would have cost upwards of $20,000.

      • Friends say specifically flight upgrades is what its best used for.

I got mum an Apple watch with mine.

        xD

        • your choice, but that seems an awfully expensive way to buy an apple watch. e.g. the 172,000 points for a series 2 watch, Using the points on upgrades can get you in excess of $3000 in value.

        • @gromit:

Of course, I wanted to use the points anyway and didn't want them to expire.

Like I said previously here, I don't fly Qantas often. Family works for an airline so I get free flights on First or business.

      Haha
I just found this thread :)
      Goldmine!

  • 38,000 with velocity, but not sure if I can get flights BNE to MAN for me and my wife yet.

oooo measurebating. Let me join in.
    QFF: 185K points, bronze.
Velocity: Potentially 200K+ (I have 400K citi points waiting to be transfered)

  • -56,833. Yes, thats a negative balance of FF points.

No point in keeping track of how many points you actually have - only how many you need to be able to book travel plans you have lined up.

  • QFF 57486 pts/ Silver Member.

  • Velocity Red 195k
I'm currently in Europe on flights paid in points. I've also redeemed for return flights to the US previously. Plus Perth to Melb (business), Melb to Hobart, and then return to Perth.

  • +2

QFF balance is 360,000 points at the moment, waiting on 10K for a hotel booking plus will get the 75K ANZ card as well.
Have just spent ~580K points booking a RTW trip in business class for 2 +~$1100 in taxes.
Velocity 63,000 points - Just spent around 500,000 points on mixed class (first/business) flight to Vietnam and Thailand on SQ
    Krisflyer 34,000 points

No status above standard for any of the airlines.

    • $1100 in taxes for both?
Can you tell me what itinerary you had? :)

      • MEL>ADL - QF
        ADL>DOH>DXB - QR (stop)
        DXB>DOH>ESB - QR (stop)
        MAD>LHR>JFK - IB & AA (stop)
        JFK>BOS>NRT - AA & JL (stop)
        NRT>SYD>MEL - JL & QF

I still need to add one more stopover flight in Europe and another few transit flights which will probably add another $200 to the taxes.

  • Around 500,000. QF gold.

  • I have about 20k QFF (I know…). I also have small number of points with Virgin, Emirate, Qatar, and Airasia due to flying with them once each in the past two years.

BTW, if anyone can make a good suggestion on how to use 20000 flybuys that I have accumulated by supermarket shopping, I'd highly appreciate it.

depending on where you're located, where you might want to travel to and how many Etihad points you have, it could be worth moving them to Etihad guest. There are a few pockets of value that far outstrip velocity for the same virgin flights. I recently redeemed for SYD-CNS in business class for 13800 pts via Etihad; the exact same flight via velocity was about 35000 points. Here's your bible

Use it with virgin's award search and you'll find if there's award availability - and the sweet spots vs virgin. Remember that you do get more points transferring to virgin (your 20k flybuys points nets 8700 velocity pts vs 8000 Etihad guest points), so do your research.

  • 1.1 million velocity points.

Update: due to recent awesome deals - my balance has now shot upto 300k :) keen

    • And my Opal Card balance now exceeds $20.

  • I have been saving very hard for over 15 years

    Qantas: 2.2m
    Velocity: 40k

    No status for anything.
    Don't travel for work ever

    • what do you plan to do

      • Do 1st class rtw for me and partner.
And have enough for another one.

        So that's 420x2 x2

But the problem is we don't have enough for 4 star hotels and expenses :(

  • Velocity: 200,000 Pts. /Platinum Status
    QFF: 55,000 Pts. /No status.
