Hi Bargain Hunters!

We recently created a dental marketplace to help patients find dentists in their area and compare their price and quality.

A price survey of over 800 clinics in Melbourne allowed us to pinpoint the lowest cost clinics. This information can now be brought to you through our new platform where we have over 80 clinics listed.

There are currently 11 clinics which offer an examination and clean for under $100, accessible through our platform. This represents a saving of over 35% compared to average fees according to the Australian Dental Association.

Note: prices reflect indicative cost provided by the clinic for patients who do not have dental health insurance cover. Actual cost may vary depending on severity and complexity of the patient case and the patient's health insurance cover. In the situation where the actual cost differs from the indicative cost, My Tooth Fairy will refund the difference in cost as a complimentary service for patients who request an appointment through the platform.

      How is it free at your local dentist? Do you have a No Gap Private Health Insurance cover? if so, then it is not free. You pay for private health insurance to cover you.

      If this is not the case, I highly doubt a scale and clean is a free service. Checkups may be free, but I would be wary of these as the dentist makes money from upselling you.

      You're correct, this is a marketplace or "comparison site", however, in compiling low cost dentists, we have identified many bargains which we believe readers of the forum would appreciate.

    Join a health fund thay waives the waiting period and you can get a scale and clean for around $15 (thats only if u choose extras only cover and cancel it after your dental work)

    The site doesn't work well. It repeatedly prompts the browser for your location, but then still forces you to enter it. Then it doesn't allow a location greater than 5km. It has nothing for WA. And when the site does eventually load in this situation the layout is all wrong with text overwriting the massive empty map. Tried on Safari and Firefox for Mac.

    All of this aside I budget to have my teeth checked and cleaned twice a year, which costs ~$130 per visit (no insurance) and this is about the average for a good dentist - stay away from the ones which try to charge $300-$400 for obvious reasons.

    Lots of people don't go to the dentist for years at a time and your breath stinks, just nobody tells you.

      Thank you for your feedback.

      The browser should only prompt for your location once, we will look into this. We decided to limit the search radius to 5km because we think this is sufficient for most users and ensures our server can support the traffic. We currently only have clinics listed in Melbourne metro but we are working on a page for when no clinics exist in the search area.

      Not even private covers the full cost of x-ray
      I'm on top extra with medibank and get a free clean once a year anyway so I can't complain

      Only paying under 35 a fortnight for the top 85 plan too and they priced match my last fund

        I pay $250 for check up and clean which includes 2 x-rays, and topical fluoride as part of the package.

        If it's $99 for all that, I'd go there next.

      Hi lostn, the deals mentioned above do not include X-rays, however there are listings on the site which include X-rays for under $150.

        I tried searching for clinics up to 25kms from my home but it said it could only be up to 5?
        I found 2 dentists nearby but would like to search for a broader area.Is this possible?

          We decided to limit the search radius to 5km because we think this is sufficient for most users and ensures our server can support the traffic. As we prove the concept, we will upgrade our servers to allow users to search for a broader area.

          Ok.I understand but I find 5kms too restricting and not sufficiently competitive.I would prefer to search minimum for a 25km radius.
          Nice concept though but will wait until you expand it.

    This would have to be their 'regular' price, not a special. Healthcare providers are not permitted to have 'specials', because it puts undue pressure on a patient to pursue the 'deal'.

    As such, this belongs in the forums.

    I just signed up in sydney's east and it was a total waste of time, I did a 10km search and the only thing I could get a comparison on was a clean and check up and even that had asterix and "+" denoting additional charges. So where is the comparison.

    I thought this was a price comparison site for dental services but it seems like just a marketing site for dentists there is no way to compare price or service from the site.

    I can google dentistes in my area if I just want their contact details and often get a better idea if a dentist is good or not from reviews.

    All the dentists with in 10km of me state that a consult is needed to give a price.
    So how do you compare go in for a consult at every dentist in the area?

    If this was a true comparison site you would expect at least a price range or hourly rate that would be better than nothing.

    A price comparison site should allow you to compare a price or at least rate which dentists are generally cheaper or more expensive and if they were on the ball rate the service or provide a feedback blog for patients.

    Wasted my time it was a channel 7 beat up that looked good but it doesn't deliver what it says at least for sydney east in any case.

      It is difficult to give a definitive cost for many services because of the complex nature of the procedure. Therefore, for legal reasons, we emphasise the costs provided on our platform are indicative and can only be determined upon in-person consultation.

      We understand your point on the limited information for the more complex procedures - we are in the process of working with clinics to improve the information available for these services to help patients such as yourself.
