ALDImobile - 1 Year Prepaid Super Pack $249 (Unlimited Calls, SMS, MMS, 42GB Data) Starts 4/2

5603

Was browsing the new Aldi catalogue this evening and saw this. Seems like a decent deal. Can't see it online yet. Updated to online link (thanks zzymurgy).

1 year "Super Pack". Unlimited standard calls, SMS, MMS, 42 GB data. Nothing in the conditions about the cost of extra data. On sale from Saturday February 4th.

Monthly sums: $20.75 per month. 3.5 GB per month - again nothing in the conditions about how the data works, I guess assume it's 42 GB up front until more info appears on-line. Aldi uses part of Telstra network and claims that covers 98.8% of Australian population.

        • It's a parenting issues not a technology issue. You can't solve it by getting bigger plans, its just gonna encourage more use….teenagers hmmm…hard to control.

Perhaps make they pay for their own use.

        • Youtube HD will chew through it pretty quick.

  • Is it the full Telstra network?

    • No.

    • NO, it's part of the network. The % is based on the part they allow Medion to use. Eg. friend on Aldi plan went QLD west past Charleville, had no coverage but a person who is a Telstra direct customer had coverage. Also, you will not get the full use of speed for data, Telstra restrict as this is their baby and offer faster speeds to their customers. All this info is out on the net but not detailed in fine print so it looks like you get the full deal : (
Go to the Aldi Mobile web site and read about coverage and notice they don't say 4GX

Best mobile deal I've seen yet was that Amaysim 6 month deal for $30 at 2GB/m. Unfortunately, it was once off only.

Not sure what happens to this plan after 12 months is up. Will you be grandfathered in, or have to port back out?

    • I'd probably port out regardless… I'm sure in 12 months time there will be mobile plans out there putting this to shame (hopefully!) :P

      • Yeah. I think I will end up going with a S8 plan anyway. I just hope it's not too expensive at launch.

  • Full disclaimer: I've not tried this myself

I know that BOOST services (when they didn't used to have the 4G Telstra network - only 3G) were able to unlock access to the Telstra 4G network by obtaining a blank Telstra SIM and performing a SIM swap over the phone. All SIM cards have an ICCID number, and the Telstra SIMs were able to hold a BOOST service but with full capability.

Perhaps this is possible with ALDI as well? If so, that would make this deal much, much better.

    • +1

ALDI has 4G by default now.

      • It's not the 4G part, but the full Telstra coverage part t

  • My phone plan runs out in April, can I buy this and wait a 2 months to activate it?

    • Yes you have until Jan 2018 to activate.

  • Once you have the 1 Year Super Pack addedto your service, we will not allow you to add any other Value Pack or Data Pack to your service; this is to avoid accidental forfeit of your 1 Year Super Pack.

So you are locked in with them for the whole year regardless and if you run out of data, you can only purchase the (expensive) add ons, instead changing into another plan.

    • You could always port out (losing the rest of the year's free calls and text) and back, assuming you care about the number.

      • True. I do care about my number and don't like porting in and out.

        • +1

Easier to get a spare phone and a sim with data and tether if it's only for a week or two.

    • +1

Data or Value Packs are different to data add ons. Well I'm pretty sure

    • You can use a dual sim phone and simply use data on one and calls/txts on the other.

  • +1

If you do run out of data before the end of your 1 year expiry, you can buy a 2GB Data Add-on to keep you going, for just $15.

i am not sure if any one read the fine print ? its 1KB billing not MB billing so my guess is the data will consume more quicker than your current mobile service. tell me if I am wrong I am so tempted but when I saw KB billing I was not sure now.

    • +2
    • +2

I thought that was better, so they add on used data as Kb so when you use 50Kb it will charge that instead of charging 1MB, so saving you alot of data

    • It's the other way around. As an analogy, suppose prices of things you buy were rounded to the next 5c or to the next dollar, which would you prefer?

    • Mega > Kilo 🤡

      • +3

Sorry guys my bad its better to have KB data counting than MB :) I think I need coffee

  • I reckon Kogan 365 days plan is still better.
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-voucher-code-large…

8gb data, unlimited call and texts. $280 approximately $23.30 p/m
aldi overall- 3.5gb data, unlimited call and texts, $20.80 p/m

    • Also subtract $10 via a referral if you aren't already registered with Kogan. That or register with a new email address.

      • +1

yep, I referred everyone in my family, except the dog.

    • +2

I reckon Kogan 365 days plan is still better.

Because Kogan have such a good history of providing a stable service?

    • +2

I would agree except if you call/text international. Then it's +$15/month, which just kills it.

    • Did that plan expire? I can't seem to find it

  • International calls included?

    • No, you have to buy PAYG credit for that.

  • +1

3.5 GB a month with unlimited calls and text for $249 a year on Telstra without band 28, works out $20.75 a month. I'm sold!

Work gives me mobile with Vodafone, data speeds always poor. Even when full bars internet doesn't connect, nothing to do with handset, software or reception. Also occasionally disconnect on calls. That's within Metro area.

If you ask me Vodafone has improved, yeah a little but still very sht

    Don't trust Kogan

    • Without Band 28??? Thought Aldi had it.

      • AFAIK you only don't get carrier aggregation, you still get bandwagon 28. However given b28 is largely touted for its abilities in rural locations and presumably not much rural coverage on Telstra wholesale (can check with coverage maps) you wouldn't get the max benefit.

I don't see the benefit of limiting carrier aggregation as the user would just go to an idle state quicker and free up the network. I suppose big T want that all to themselves.

  • At first I thought 42GB/month :(
Kogan has been selling 3GB per month for $17 (of course is a 12 month lock in)

The catch is you buy this in store and need to pay cash upfront. Aldi quite desperate else you pay credit card fee

    • +1

Yep,a whole $1.25 deal breaker eh.

  • +1

Looks like we have to buy this pack in store on February 4th? So its possibly a loss leader for Aldi and they are hoping for customers to buy other items in-store.

I'm hoping to see other mobile providers announce better plans in the fortnight before this pack becomes available. Personally I'd like to see Telstra improve their pricing as their network has better call quality (not just the coverage).

Better value to be had on the Woolworths Mobile Prepaid plans:

•$25.65 per month ($30 with 10% Woolies Rewards discount, plus 5% Cashrewards Wish Card discount)
    •30 day expiry
    •Unlimited national calls and SMS
    •6GB data on activation
    •3GB on every recharge
    •Data rollover up to 15GB
    •$100 international call credit
•Telstra Network (not the full network, but you won't notice unless you really go outback - I went on a solid bushwalk down the South Coast of NSW and still managed to get 4G whilst being a few KMs inland surrounded by bush. Optus network got nothing).

And if you bump up to the $45 option ($38.50 with discounts), you get 16GB data to start with, then 8GB per recharge, plus unlimited national calls to 10 countries.

    • +2

That's $5 more every month and 500MB less data every month but you get international calls, perhaps data rollover. That's the only difference.

      • Even better you start with the 8gb (16gb double data) kit then drop down to the 3gb recharges on your first recharge and you still roll over up to 15gb when doing so. It was detailed here:

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4109292/redir

This way when you account for the bonus data rolled over you get more than 4gb per month effectively.

    • How does the Wish Card work…you buy it at 5% discount and use it online for recharges along with WW rewards card for the 10% disc?

    • Yeah, this is hardly better unless you need international.

  • Can confirm that Aldi's network (telstra) is good and reliable. Daughter has been on an Aldi plan (something ridiculously cheap, $15 of calls and sms with a 1 year expiry) which lasts a few months. She doesn't need mobile data.

    • Telstra wholesale*

  • +1

Aldi Mobile are good but wouldn't go this plan.
Prepay 12 months and if anything changes you wont get a refund for remaining months.
Also the data is kinda low and as mentioned before the top up packs are not great value.

I have Aldi mobile an vary between the xl and xxl monthly top ups as I am a high data user. The data rollover helps me save to xl on the months I dont use the entire xxl allowance.

Coverage is good. As good as when I was on Telstra plan. Speed is fast as well.

Downside is my iphone voicemail doesnt work with Aldi. Its well known that Aldi cant be bothered fixing the iphone profile settings to allow the voicemail feature to work. So instead i just save the voicemail number as a fav contact and dial. I dont really listen to voicemail much anyways so most people know to sms me.

  • Is this Telstra 4G ? Or 3G only?

    • 4G

      • Thanks. But only "part of Telstra network" ? The good parts I hope…

        • -2

          Doubt it

  • Awesome thanks OP ,will defiantly jump on this

    • +2

      From Aldi:

      string(37) "PAGE MISSING: planpage-1yearsuperpack"
      Page unavailable

Sorry about this, something seems to have gone wrong and this link is broken.

      Why?

Cause you didn't plan for the unexpected.

This may have been becuase our server did not respond or it timed out.

      You misspelt 'because'

      What next?

Get a better web host and use a spell checker.

    • +1

You can view it via Web Cache, but then again you can't open anything like CIS.

      Anyway, here

    • +1

      The page has moved;

      https://www.aldimobile.com.au/plans/1-year-super-pack/

      Details all there.

      • Thank you for that, I'm keen to find out more info if the data are break down into 12 months but it doesn't sound like it. I wouldn't like to receive all in one go. I might end up calling them to find out more about it.

EDIT: Just found this - https://www.finder.com.au/aldimobiles-super-pack-offers-42gb… so yes it gives you all of your data at once which is not breaking down monthly.

        • You could just restrict yourself to 3.5GB a month, but surely it's more flexible to have the full 42 available from the get go isn't it?

        • @Gershom: if you have an iPhone that might be problematic, since you could unknowingly use up all your 42gb data in the first few months, then have to purchase more every month the rest of the year. On android you can easily restrict data to a fixed amount per month, much easier to control your usage.

        • +1

          @krzystoff:

you could unknowingly use up all your 42gb

You would know if you were using data, and their app would tell you how much. Jamit's complaint is like a child complaining about getting all their pocket money at the start of the week because they might spend it all at once. How old is he I wonder. 6?

    • How do you OzBargain a deal that isn't active and in-stores?

      • +1

That's an ozbargain secret, you need to be initiated with the secret handshake before we can tell you.

  • Any similar plan with international calls?

  • This is a super deal. I already pay $20 per month with Aldi and would appreciate more data and unlimited calls and text. Woohoo!

  • +2

Is it true to say the best coverage is Telstra and Boost have full Telstra coverage, so therefor Boost are best if the price stacks up

  • +2

Doesn anyone know if I buy this simcard now and activate it later? My contract with Virgin will end this May and I'lll switch to Aldi.

Edit: no worries, I found the info, just activate the sim before 31 Jan 2018

    • You could just buy it when your contract ends… no need to spend the $5 until you actually have to.

    • Do you know whether you can change to another Aldi plan if, before the purchased sim is activated, a better Aldi plan comes out?

      • It's actually a $249 voucher for the plan. The SIM is thrown in. No idea if you could ask for a refund if you don't use the voucher.

        • +1

No idea if you could ask for a refund if you don't use the voucher.

Yeah show them who is the Boss

  • Now if only they could bundle this with a OnePlus 3 (as non-existent as their customer service is).

  • +1

I am on Aldi PAYG , only need data , one year it cost me less than $30 call , I still on PAYG and last deal on Vodafone $125 for double data ( 51GB ) so might pass this.

    • +6

Ok. Thanks for letting us know. Have a good day.

  • Post sales shpport is non existent from my experience.

  • +1

If you need more data and like vodafone, Lebara offer unlimited calls/sms 5gb of data and up to 100 minutes international $300 a year. My husband is on that and we will keep until something else can beat that. He uses about 4gb a month so this Aldi one is not good enough for him.

  • Does anyone currently on the ALDI Mobile network have anything to say about data speeds and coverage?

  • can i port my number from Vodafone?

    • +1

Of course. And in case you are new to porting, you don't inform Vodafone. You just tell Aldimobile on the activation form that you are bringing your old number and they will do the rest. You will lose any prepaid credit you have with Vodafone, or be liable for any residual charges for postpaid when the port happens.

  • I'm currently with Jeenee and planning to port my number to Aldi.
My billing cycle with Jeenee starts on the 21st and they want to charge around the 9th.
If they charge and I port it out before the 21st, do I get my money back?
    How does this work? :)

    • You have 1 year to activate the aldi sim, so just cancel your jeenee plan, and wait for the cut off date. Then, port over your number ez pz.

  • hi guys
I am currently with TPG and will probably be getting two packs of these to port mine and my wifes numbers over to ALDIMobile.
I had a look at their FAQ's but it doesnt specifically list how long the whole process might take ?
A couple of hours - couple of days ?
    thank you.

    • TPG use Vodafone and Aldi is telstra so should be done within 4 working hours.

      • Only if you are new or moved across. Some still on old Optus TPG plans.

Does anyone know if there is a surcharge if paid by Visa Debit?

    • +1

      i think there is surcharge.

    • +3

If you press savings then no.

  • Hey guys,
I am planning to buy this tomorrow however this is my first time buying from ALDImobile. Just curious when you purchase this, does the sim card come in all sizes such as nano sim?

    • +1

You have your choice from the online store: "You can buy both the 2-in-1 standard/micro dual punched SIM card and the nano sized SIM card in the ALDImobile online store." I'm assuming it will be the same in-store.
