Need supervised motorbike riding practice - does anyone do this?

Hello all,

I got my motorbike learners permit over the weekend (in Queensland) and I need to get some practice in over the next three months before the test. Im in Brisbane.

I have to be accompanied by someone who has held a RE motorbike licence or higher for at least 12 months. I dont have any mates with bikes. Does anyone know if there is someone I can pay to just supervise me as I ride around for a bit?

Or is there some other way I should go about it?

Where'd you get that from? You don't need this in NSW … I doubt other states are different.

If you just want some tips/practice, have a look on the netrider forum for some meetups.

Don't post if you don't have a clue, learner riders in QLD must be accompanied by an open R/RE licence holder.

        1. GFY
        2. I'll take your word for it … Queenslanders just as bad as Tasmanians.

Join Netrider and look for any local Learner Friendly events.

    • Thanks for that, really helpful info.

  • I'm fairly sure this is the case in WA as well. Or it used to be at least. But yeah essentially I think you need to pay someone or something.

Go register on netrider.com.au and sign up for beginner rides. happen every week locally, subject to location

  • Why don't you do QRIDE?

Also, your best bet would be to join some of the facebook motorcycle meetup groups (either on facebook or meetup.com) who go for group rides. Perhaps you could make friends there and find someone who would supervise?

I got my learners, and then my RE open licence before Oct so I didn't have to do the pre learners qride test. How was that? Do you feel you learnt pleanty?

Many places that provide qride assesment provide courses you can attend in a class with a variety of skill levels.

They also offer 1 on 1 training.

Top rider is an example of this. I believe they have coursed in Brisbane. But you can shop around and find one that's right for you.

I also agree with montoroller. There are some groups on meetup that arrange rides. Perhaps some of them would be okay with supervising a learner.

    • To be honest I thought it was a pain at first but actually I'm glad I had to do it.

  • You used to be able to get your learners and go straight to Qride for your RE licence. Now it's 3 months, but is there a logbook or anything you have to complete? The easiest way is to wait 3 months and go for your RE q-ride then.

When I went for both my RE and R Q-ride there were people there who hadn't been on a bike before, so skill level isn't an issue, you just might have to come back a second day.

    Whereabouts in Brisbane are you?

    • Sunnybank. I know I could just wait out the three Mo ths but I could probably use some practice.

  • There's a motor cycle school at the Brookside shopping centre, they do lessons in a large car park out the back and I've also seen them go out on group rides together to possibly get their hours up for the road driving part, maybe look them or other motorcycle schools in Brisbane
