Any ongoing deals from NBN service providers?

My unit just got NBN ready and am looking to replace my ADSL. Are there any deals/offers going on ?
There is nothing on the obvious optus and telstra websites. If it matters, I download a lot and will be watching a lot of TV on the internet - so any advice also welcome.

  • Have you checked myrepublic? Top tier speed & unlimited at $60. I am one of their customer and highly satisfied with their service.

    • Thanks for replying. myrepublic website says not available in my unit. I will keep a close eye on them though. Cheers.

Avoid Telstra due to highest price (in amount payed), lowest value (capped, uploads counted) and general shittiness as a company (they exist to charge the highest amount they can to ignorant rubes eg 33Mbit, 200GB (including uploads) $149 + over $500 in setup fees. The router they sell you has Telstra's firmware which does great things like make it impossible to have a permanent IP on your local network which the original firmware alloews because because that's basic functionality you'd expect in any router.

    Don't be a Telstra rube.

    • Don't get me started on those Telstra NBN "routers". Wanna setup a VPN? Hahahaha no.

      • I have no need to setup my VPN on my router. My work VPN and my personal VPN work off my OS. So all good there

Not sure what pricing your looking at but Telstra has their bundle for $99 per month which includes Foxtel and 1TB.

      They don't even have a 200GB plan, they have 100, 500 and 1TB.

Not to mention they actually purchase a reasonable amount of CVC which means you typically don't get the general shittiness other companies have at peak time.

Though 100% the routers suck, but nothing stopping you getting your own unless you want to use voice.

      • OP is asking for deals/offers, not rip offs

        • I wouldn't call spending $50-$60 per month on a service that isn't usable in peak periods a deal.

Many people have foxtel, for $99 per month you get Foxtel + 25/5 with 1TB of downloads, thats basicaly $64 per month for NBN + $35 for foxtel basic (and 3 month free movies / sports). Speed boosts are half price making it +$10/+$15 per month for 50/20 or 100/40. In many circumstances due to the crappy nature of FTTN network design and build, you may only sync at a max of around 12-25Mbits per second.

Pay up or end up with crap service - the CVC costs make it impossible to have low price and reliable/speedy service on the NBN. Many providers undersubcribe to CVC bandwidth to enable cheaper monthly fee's to their customers, in return, ridiculous speeds of 1-5Mbps in peak times compared to within 15% of your physical sync/fibre access speeds.

If I can get a good deal on a subscriber that I know does well in implementation and management of CVC capacity on the NBN, they that to me as much better deal than the rip off $60 per month of unusable service.

    • I like telstra. I dont need a permanent/static IP either. Their speed with my current ADSL is shite, but their customer service (usually offshore) has been amazing. Thanks for replying though.
      Cheers,

  • Non….everyone (service provider) just want to rip us off…..min $49 for 100gb with slow 12mbps speed (of which u hardly get 2mbps in pick time)

  • I chose Belong. The router the send is garbage (like 2mbps wifi throughput!), but bridged to another wifi is ok.
There is a referral code on here, plus cashrewards offers $80 cashback.
