Unsure if targeted or not, but I don't think it is. Anyway, on my sign-in page I had a message regarding getting Groove music free for 4 months. Appears to be a duplicate of their previous offer, but now running until 1 March.
Looking at the information on the webpage you get the first month free as a trial, and then will receive a promo code for the next 3 months. Previous sign-up are not eligible.
You also need a credit card to sign-up, but it states you can cancel at any time.

Although the sign-up site appears to be down for maintenance!

  • Please try again in a while. We’re doing some maintenance.

Had never heard of groove music. Clicked link and realised its a Microsoft thing. Man they really suck at at marketing these days…

    • +3

And if you're using Windows, the Groove app is preinstalled… I bet you had no idea what Groove was for.

    • It used to be called Zune Pass, then they rebranded it to Xbox Music to co-opt that brand's popularity (didn't work), now it's Groove.

  • Perfect for when my Google music free offer finishes. Then I'll need to start paying as I've ran out of free offers 🙁

Me too - done Spotify twice, Google and Deezer. This must be the last chance saloon!

Try Pandora, had a few ads, not not too bad

        • +3

Pandora has excellent sound quality for a free music service :)

        • @stormii:
          Too many bloody ads though..

      • +2

I don't mind free Deezer. I can mute the ads and they're not too frequent.

        • +1

Was about to say this. Deezer is pretty awesome and for some reason i dont get ads. Never paid never will.

  • Hmm…Free for 30 days. £8.99/month after the trial period.

  • Have not tried Groove before. I'm in the same boat as @Bellpop.
I've tried Google Play music and Spotify. I find that I prefer using Spotify of the two.
All of these music service providers are the same though. No preferences to disable live music.

  • Thanks, my 4 month google play music will run out around march. Just in time. Although groove seems like it only has an iPhone app, no iPad or dedicated app on the Mac.

  • This reminded me to check if the 4 months free google music is due or not.

  • Groove is not only for windows 10, its for most devices including android, iphone, windows phone, xbox, sonos and also on the web

  • *Sign up for a 30-day Groove Music Pass trial before March 1st, 2017 and we'll send you a token within 30 days for an additional 3 months of free music. what's Groove's range like vs the rest?

    • +1

Have been using Groove music for a couple of months and it is great. It has 40 million+ songs and you can upload all your own music to OneDrive and then it is available for streaming on all your devices.

      • you can upload all your own music to OneDrive and then it is available for streaming on all your devices.

And you don't need a subscription to do this either. Works well in my experience.

    • They're largely the same because they all make the sense licence deals with the same labels under largely identical terms. Groove has local library upload unlike Spotify, but so does GPM.

  • I cycled through free offers for a while, and it was good, but now with the spotify family deal -
$18/6 = $3 per user per month.. can't really beat it for a persistent, offline library and the fantastic discover weekly feature.
I wonder if this microsoft music offers anything better

Has anyone managed to get this t work yet? Mine keeps saying its under maintenance and try back later.

    • I can't get it to work either, anyone had any luck?

  • Great find. Groove is awesome on the Xbox as it also plays music videos if there is one available for the song.

Does this allow for offline downloads on Android? Be good to download at home with Wi-Fi and to not burn through all my data when I'm out.

  • I tried raising it with Microsoft, but oddly on the Groove help chat, the assistant said the pass was dealt with under Xbox! Over 40 people in line for the xbox help, so I'll just wait a while longer I guess.
Wonder if these problems are a sign of the service? If so its no wonder they are running this offer again as people won't be happy.

  • Just been onto support again - appears they are actually running some maintenance. Should be all good in 24 hours or so.

  • Please try again in a while. We’re doing some maintenance.

    So typical Microsoft offering

  • Still doing maintenance :(

  • +1

Been onto them once again! Seems they are still doing maintenance, which could last up to 72 hours from the start (whenever that actually was). Was suggested to just sign up through the app, but he then decided that you wouldn't get the extra 3 months if you did that as it has to be through the web pages.
Anyway, he just advised to keep checking and eventually it'll work! Sorry.

Pretty bad time to be running maintenance when they have a promo active!!

  • Anyone had any luck yet?

    • Just tried then and still says maintenance. I saw this offer from a previous post and contact Microsoft and the person I spoke to said Aus was not eligible for the offer.

  • I tried this promo last time. I never received my code. Good luck trying to contact customer support….

  • So it's AUD 11.99 p/m. Is there an annual subscription option like in the US?

  • Still not working…
