  • Can someone tell me is the Razer Chroma Keyboard is worth considering at this price? It doesn't seem to be a mechanical keyboard but there are programmable keys.

    • +15

$98 for a membrane, hmmm nahhhhh

      • Exactly what I was after. Cheers.

    • Really its just their brand they are selling at this price. Pretty sure you can find some Mechanical ones for about a hundred bucks if you look around.

      • Yes, but are the $100 worth getting though

        • Yes. Literally any mechanical at that price will be much better than a $100 razer. I had a Razer lycosa and it was atrocious considering the price. Not sure if they've improved, but I'd be looking exclusively at mechanicals. I've never looked back since buying one (well.. three now).

        • Corsair, Das and Ducky seem decent.

        • +1

          @Baebs: Decent is an understatement

        • If the mechanical key switches are made by company like cherry, the price tag is the least of your concerns. There are brands of mechanical keyboards that are less well known than razer, (e.g. Tesoro, ducky) who often make keyboards that put the former to shame.

I think even Logitech mechanical keyboards can be often found here for around $100. I got my gigabyte aorus cherry red for about 65, it's had less problems than my k95

        • +1

          @Baebs:
Ducky and iKBC (mwave) are both good boards, with the latter looking identical, but at a much cheaper price point than the Ducky. Also, white (if you can get them) looks sexy AF.

        • @nairdajun: I got the Aorus K3 with red cherry switched for $59 at one of these MSY sales around end of year 2015. Did you get the K7 or K3

        • As long as they are using cherry keys you should be fine. Main thing is figuring out which type of keys you want. I prefer cherry reds because they're linear in motion and don't make clicky noises. I've tried cherry blues but I don't like the clicky noise. One thing to look out for is n key roll-over. Some of the earlier razer mechanicals had 2-3 key roll-over.

        • +1

@WinstonWithAY: I think it was the k3, at $59. Sounds right in 2015. But I remember last year they had the k7 for around 89

        • @nairdajun: Mmmm, I bought Aorus Thunder (lel) K7 for around that much last year.

The macro keypad is annoying if you have it attached to the keyboard because it disconnects very easily. Too annoying for me to leave it connected which means I have to use the cable. Which isn't braided like the keyboard cable :|

I'm probably going to buy another TKL keyboard with different switches though more because i want to try other switches rather than the K3 bit of the keyboard being bad, I like it.

        • Wouldn't ever look back after going mechanical! I've got a logitech G610 (brown switches). I've been through red and blue and they didn't do it for me.

Blue - best for typists. Tactile bump and audible click with every press. The keys feel awesome to press but it was too loud for me, especially with my computer in the bedroom.

Red - best for FPS gamers. Less force to actuate/no tactile bump. Some say this is an advantage for someone who rapidly presses the same keys; I actually think it's easier on browns. I disliked these switches the most, the lack of a tactile bump just didn't feel natural and it was too easy to mistype as the slightest bumps would register key presses.

Brown - the goldilocks switch. A little harder to find but this is the middle ground between red and blue; you get a tactile bump and a softer click.

        • @nairdajun: I picked up Logitech g610 for under $100 delivered from Amazon UK. Very happy with it.

        • @Diji1:

THe only problem I find with the k3, is the resting height of the keyboard. It doesn't come with a rest, and I find that angle a bit steep. Nothing a few dollars of clark rubber foam wont fix though.

        • Warehouse 1 is currently selling logitech g610 (brown) for ~$115

  • The Duo flash drive comes close to the claimed 130MB/s transfer rate when reading sequentially. Sequential writing speeds of 30 to 45MB/s are also stand-out results.

From an Amazon review. Good speeds. Deal.

EDIT Wait. That's for MUF-32CB/AM not MUF-32CB/APC. Hmm. I assume that's Asia Pacific version vs American version?

    • That's for MUF-32CB/AM not MUF-32CB/APC

it's strange that there would be a different SKU for something so trivial as a USB flash drive.

It's a review on Amazon so it's worthless.

      • Sponsored reviews are always labelled.

It's a review on Amazon so it's worthless.

What weight should we attach to your comments/reviews?

        More or less than Amazon?

  • +5

These take a lot of force to plug in and are even worse to get out as it is hard to grip. Won't buy again

    • +9

      Thanks for the review grandma.

      • +4

Have you tried one? I have to hold down the desktop or laptop with a fair bit of my weight just to plug it in. I can hold up my laptop from this USB if it is plugged in and it still won't shake off.

        • nothing a handy opal card cant solve

        • +16

In motherland Russia, the pc plugs into the USB

        • @youkatei: explain….

    • i call massive bullshit on this. there is a notch that your finger can rest again to help pull it out. no grip needed unless you're fist deep in lubricant.

Lol, doesn't the linksys router remind you guys of the Sega Mega Drive?

    • +1

      Whoa
      Now I can't unsee.

LOL i thought exactly the same thing when i saw the picture

  • Tas store has no stock, anyone know if I can order the USB to pick up from Tas store?

    • +1

Hi Geebee, if you don't mind, just visit TAS store and ask them to do backorder for you.

      Thank you

  • I'm about to move into a new place with NBN and need a new router - how does the Linksys X3500 compare to say, the iiNet TG789 that you can buy on signing up?

    • +1

I assume you are on Fttn?
You need a Vdsl modem. This linksys is ADSL only. Is also kind of low SPEC, since it doesn't do wireless AC.

Try googling for Asus rt68u or Tp Link Archer VR series.

If you have many mobiles and laptops at home you will want wifi AC for better speeds.

If you are on Fiber to the Home / Fttp you only need a good Gigabit router.

    • X3500 is an ADSL Modem and Router. With NBN you don't need the ADSL modem part. Even though it will work on NBN.

I'm using it with TPG ADSL, so hard to setup, which requires manually changing a parameter to connect. IMO, if you need a ADSL modem and router, look for something else.

For NBN, you just need a router. iiNet one seems a better choice. If you have issue in getting online, you can call them for support, as they supply you the hardware.

      • If using x3500 with TPG, I learned after "troubleshooting" to change one setting. Set the "Disconnect if no activity (in minutes): to 9999. This way all works well. If one leaves it at the default of 0 (which is meant to mean stay connected), it would have terrible issues and keep disconnecting or not connect at All. Now all is well, For $69, not a bad price. I'd buy another!
        Cheers

Just went to the brooklyn store and was told ALL 4 Samsung DUO 32GB USB3.0 were sold out. Online still showing "In Stock". What a Waste of time. Bunch of muppets running the joint.

    • -3

you can check the stock online before going to the store.
or order online and pickup…or email or call them first. I picked 2 up in VIC.
      you are the muppet.
edit: oh i didnt read your entire sentence. ah well. sydney sucks shit anyway.

      • +2

Can't even comprehend 4 short sentences before attacking someone? Who's the muppet now?

  • Order Samsung DUO 32GB online and received their order confirmation, unfortunately when I went to their Clayton shop they still told me they sold out the stock.
I left my phone number to them, hopefully they can help organize the stock by the end of the week.

  • Guys, I haven't bought anything from MSY for a while. But I can't seem to find an option to do "local pickup" anymore?

      • Thanks for this. I didn't even realise I was on the Vic online page when I tried to make the initial order.

Just put through an WA order for local pickup, so hopefully there is still a couple of the USB drive left. Thanks! :)

  • Got 2 DUOs from North Plympton. USB3! Was pleasantly surprised.

    • Yes you have to read the description very carefully when you buy stuff. To know what you are exactly gettingg or you can be solely disappointed.

      • Totally misread the title. Made the deal sweeter!

  • Don't bother going to Pascoe vale store for the USB, out of stock and guy wouldn't let me backorder either.
