SJCAM SJ4000 from Radioddity - Leaking Waterproof Case - How to Redeem Warranty?

Hi guys, in about July/August I jumped on this Ozbargain: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/257899 for an SJCam SJ4000 from Radioddity.com (US-based, I think) @ A$53.

I've just taken it for it's first snorkelling outing and was annoyed to see the case fill up with water with has seeped into the actioncam itself. The actioncam now won't turn on (depressing the power button lights the LED but that turns off when the button is released and the LCD does not display) and there is liquid between the LCD and it's cover.

The instruction booklet says the action cam is covered by warranty for 1 year from the date of purchase, however the contact/return address section is uncompleted / blank.
Radioddity's website says goods are eligible for return due to physical damage within 90 days (so this has long expired) but warranties are handled by the manufacturer.

I had tested the case in the kitchen sink, then tested the unit in the swimming pool and it seemed okay.
I have since discovered that the water gets in when the power button is pressed, so it is a fault with the waterproof case (which was packaged with the actioncam).

It was only A$53 so it's not the biggest loss, but it's annoying as it didn't last one trip, and to buy another actioncam right now would cost much more.

Does anyone know how I might go about getting it repaired / replaced, and what my rights and chances are?

If it helps, I'm sure it was bought via PayPal, but I'm not sure it would qualify for free return when it is a warranty issue to the manufacturer rather than a return to the vendor.

The Actioncam, waterproof casing and various fittings are sold together as a package (as standard).

Thanks in advance.

  • i would say slim to none chance, as this is a fault relating to the case and not the cam itself

    • Even though the case and cam are sold together as standard (same box)?

      • I would think you have a valid claim, as the item is clearly faulty (not fit for purpose). I would push for a full refund. Also, didn't paypal extend its protection to 6 months? You might just scrape in?
