Anyone else miss the old Eneloops?

I'm finding that my Chinese Eneloops aren't going the distance. Ladda batteries are the worst of the lot. They self-discharge very quickly. Apparently this is a well known problem with Eneloop Pro which has more capacity.

I did a quick search and apparently the lifespan has also been halved.

Anyone else finding themselves having to recharge their batteries more often? Usually I leave them in the drawers for 5 months and they are alright, but I found they have almost discharged down to ~20%; in a Cree Torch it isn't very bright at all. Maha charger…

At this rate I might as well buy some Aldi cheapies.

What happened? Is this part of planned obsolescence? Has the quality of the Japanese Eneloops dropped too?

Have you tried Hobby King LSD? I'm not a battery nerd but they're cheaper and seem significantly better than Eneloops to me.

    • I was disappointed by the Hobby King LSD batteries. Their self discharge just sitting in a drawer seems way higher than the ever reliable Eneloops.

  • I just bought my first ever set of Japanese eneloops from Amazon. So far I'm very impressed but I don't have a point of comparison.

  • Im going down the aldi path.

    • I have been looking for rechargeable Aldi batteries but none to be found; I suspect it's been ozb?

      • For some reason the aldi stores keep then at the counter but also the way they box them is either AA or AAA or both in a box and they dont stock much per register.

My local tends to hold a fair bit of AAA but hard to get the AA.

So far they are ised in my daughters toys and remotes so nothing big to use yet and they seem to hold out very well.

Dont bother going the arlec type they self discharge at a fast rate and dont hold much juice.

  • back in the day i would get 7 hogsheads to the eneloop

  • Bought my first eneloops over Christmas using the Bing Lee deal advertised here. Someone in that thread said the eneloop pros are still made in Japan so I bought them.

  • Has the quality of the Japanese Eneloops dropped too?

I only have cells with a date code up to the year 2015. They have been fine. I have yet to see the Chinese ones in the flesh, let alone buy them. It's still easy to get Japanese cells.
