    Wouldn't the Hisense - 50K3300UW - 50" UHD for $556 be a better deal over the Sammy 50"?
    Cheaper and a better TV

    • samsung better i reckon

      • I had a look at the Hisense at JB. Compared to samsung series 6, i think the Hisense kills it on picture quality but i found the menu etc a little slow on the hisense.

        • I don't have either but have compared both in shop and the Hisense is clearly a better TV in regards to PQ ( and this was possibly without the latest firmware as well, I did not check)
          I believe the Hisense has a 10bit panel vs 8bit + dithering.

I can imagine it being more of a clunky/slower interface vs the Sammy though.

        • @h0mbre: Pretty sure the hisense is also 8 bit + FRC - it just accepts HDR10 input with the new firmware though.

EDIT: Wait I just realised it's not the 7000 series.

    • +1

nah, not that series. if it were the hisense series 7 then yeah but thats like $900

    • I bought a k3300uw……. really tempted to return it.

Australian firmware has the picture quality like crap and half the features locked out.

As stated below, went through hell putting french firmware on and it instantly improved picture, but stuffed up the region settings.

      Speakers also sound like garbage.

Really a neg because I bought a TV wanting it to be decent and found it not to be?

Instead of voting that comment down, offer your thoughts on it.

I've already sent an email to hisense asking for a please explain over it, it legitimately doesnt make sense that running the australian firmware half the features are locked out, the picture quality is degraded like crazy, and on the euro firmware its great?

What would she say if she came home to this?

    • +2

      "Bigger is indeed better!"

Well it's what I would say anyway. I'd be stoked to come home to find one of these bad boys.

To which gasman70 would reply "B-but…you've always told me that size doesn't matter to you :("

Is anybody from Melbourne interested in buying the TV's from BL? I understand they don't deliver to Melbourne but it can be picked up from Wodonga.. If we have enough interests we can buy them and I can get them for you provided you share the fuel costs + some incentives…. Cheers Mak.

PS: I am also after the Hisense 55K3300UW hence trying to see if we all can save up then why not?

I bought a k3300 yesterday, already considering returning it.

      Paid $665 at jb hifi.

Get home after hearing the firmware can be changed to a french version to get HDR. Turns out this is a mistruth.

A whole ton of features in the australian firmware are just locked out for no real reason, we were sitting it next to a 1080p samsung LED 40" and it was being killed by it, it wasnt upscaling things with any options if at all.

Spent 5 hours trying to download the french firmware to dump on it having it die every 20m, finally got it to download with a download client to keep it downloading.

Tried to install the firmware on it, fail, fail, fail, success.

Instantly went from Xbox only recognising it as a 4k tv but nothing else to recognising it for full color etc, and HDR.

HDR now shows up as a picture option on the TV but it wont let me select it, all the other picture options such as filters, noise reduction etc are now showing up, and it's gone from looking like a pile of crap next to the samsung to anihilating it.

However……. still wont let me choose HDR, this is due to it having an 8bit board not a 10. So it can do partial HDR but not full.

So yeah playing with it again tonight but leaning towards taking it back, its a bit ridiculous that if you have the australian firmware on it half the features are looked out and the image is purposefully made to be crap.

Whack the french firmware on and boom, better picture and more features and abilities, however cant tell the TV its in australia now, can still get channels, can still read EPG but all the times are wrong and cant figure out a way to fix it?

      • May I ask you what was your intent of buying this TV? The cost, features vs cost or the fact that you read in forums that you can apply a foreign firmware update to unlock further features? I can't see in the JB ad that it supports HDR considering that you claim that is supports 8-Bit depth HDR processing? Cheers

        • Go check whirlpool.

On the whole for the money paid you shouldnt be getting a pixelated image dueing sny movement regardless of settings on australian firmware.

          Thats whag you get

        • @typhoonadventure: I guess, there is a reason why that this TV is a cheapie. It is understandable that we all want all the bells and whistles for less however going down that path (that is reading feedback forums) is a risk which can lead to disappointment. You want a 4K TV that supports HDR 10 bit, 4:4:4 chroma 4K res @ 60p then get ready to spend $1600+ for a 55". If you can return your TV for an exchange, bring your XB1S and connect to a TV to see if HDR is supported. The Samsung 8000+ series & the LG UH770T is a good start.Cheers

Edit please scroll up if your going to read it.

  • Just purchased the Samsung UA50KU6000W from JB Hi-fi on the weekend for $895

    • I saw that being advertised right next to the 40" model which was actually more expensive (~$1k from memory). Found that quite odd.

      • +1

We took it at a bargain, but this price is a steal

  • It's curved, no good. Garbage that they take down all the good tvs as soon as they have a special.

  • For you curved TV owners out there!
What's the viewing angle like if your not in the centre?

Is a flat panel better for a better viewing angle sitting wide?

    • +1

      Yes.

  • -2

Like anyone here on Ozbaragin could even afford that amount.

    • Speak fer yerself …

  • Can the 50" run plex? Had built in wifiwhats it not got over the series 8/9 and hisense series 7?

    • Yes, purchased the Samsung UA50KU6000W on the weekend and it has a Plex app installed by default. I have connected it to Plex server over wifi.

      • What's the main appeal for the higher price ones then ?

        • No idea :)

But i bought the 50" HUEHUEHUEUHE

  • Wish I had a big enough living room for the 78". One day. Even 98" for $4500 by then! Oled too! :-)
