Strange Outlook Call - Anyone Can Tell Me What Is This about (Chinese I Believe)

I was writing a new message that included a line like this:
s:\my path\
and selected it, right clicked, hyperlink…

Outlook was unresponsive for about 15 seconds displaying this:
https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/91538/46097/strangeout…

After the pause Outlooked performed as expected.

I am quite worried…
Any idea what it means?

Thanks

Cris

PS an AV scan detected nothing…

  • A mixture of Korean and Chinese. Probably something to do with the ASCII code page you had active at the time.

  • looks more korean than chinese

  • I have tried to translate using the android apps but it is garbled/garbage…

  • It's probably just a bug.

Can you post the exact path?

  • It contains references to a client but is like this:
    \server\Software\Customer Data\C\customer\Outputs4Luis

    Product is Outlook 2013 64-bit
Part of a Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013

    Thank you for your assistance.

EDIT there are 2 \ in the beginning of the path but this renderer strips one

    • Sounds like a bug, but I just tried it and the Insert Hyperlink box loads normally.

Then again, I don't have any add-ons and rarely use Outlook.

More than likely an add-on, or you can try to repair the install, but I doubt it's anything malicious.

  • I have tried to replicate and it did not display the connection attempt anymore…
    Weird…

  • Dunno about newer Windows versions, but it's healthy to turn on IP logging for a while to see which connections your idle computer is making and to where.
