ShoppingSquare: How Do I Unsubscribe from Emails?

Hi,
I have no problems with the company who have faithfully delivered any purchases I've made.

I'm going through all the varies emails I get from different companies and as I'm not in purchasing mode, I'm wanting to unsubscribe from almost all of them.

It might be somewhere obvious that I'm simply not seeing, but I can't find the "Unsubscribe" on ShoppingSquares site.

Can anyone point out where I'm not looking?

I want a break from a constantly filling "inbox" that I no longer have the time or inclination to read.

Cheers

Block sender, mark as junk, set rule to send sender to junk

  • Whats likely to happen to any receipts from possible future purchases?

Whilst that will work, on face value its a bit of a blunt instrument.

I can't see in either my bigpond or yahoo accounts how to undo what you suggested or I'd likely do it immediately.

If there is no "Unsubscribe" I'll get in touch via their "Contact" link.

If no success I can review the situation and consider once again your suggestion.

    Thanks for the input.

Login first and go to https://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/user_details.php

Check " Yes! Send me email updates about new products and special offers."

      Click update

Uncheck " Yes! Send me email updates about new products and special offers."

      Click update again

      • Did what you said

"Check " Yes! Send me email updates about new products and special offers."

        Click update"

        Up pops a message saying

"If you don't like our email updates about new products and special offers, please click on the unsubscribe link in one of our promotion email. "

I'm assuming your suggestion wasn't successful.

I tried logging out and logging in again to see if anything changed to no avail and a repeat of the message.

that's some pretty incompetent design on Shopping square's part. You should complain to customer service and ask why they don't have a page for mailling list management.

    • On what page?

      Link?

Its not on any of the pages I've seen and its not at the bottom of the emails I received today.

link a screenshot. mines the same as JSQUARED

        • Sorry I've no idea how.

          @Rifraf:

You press Print Screen on the keyboard
Open up Paint in the start menu and then paste the image in.

Then you go to IMGUR image uploader and upload an image, and then share the link here.

        • +1

@Rifraf: Press the Print Screen button to the right of the F12 button / left of the Scroll Lock button. Upload to imgur. Click on the green button at the top that says new post. You should just be able to paste the picture in there.

        • @BlazinPast:

Sorry I've a power button to the right of the f12 button

          @Rifraf:

to screenshot part of your screen in Mac, you need to press 3 buttons at the same time.
          that is

          ⌘ + Shift + 4

and then your mouse turns into a crosshair. You can draw and capture a rectangular box of what you want to save by click+dragging. When you finish you'll hear a camera click sound and it will produce a image file somehwere on your system, like your desktop or whatever. Upload that.

        • @scrimshaw:

          No go.

I can't scroll to grab the whole email

As soon as I hit a border it takes a pic without scrolling either up or down.

@scrimshaw: This reminds me of having to handle phone tech support for parking inspectors in various councils… Telling them how to print screen, or use file explorer… fun times!

          @lainey13:

I've had a teacher so fed up with learning how to take screenshots she resorted to using her iPhone to take photos of a laptop screen. She got extra points for at least knowing to use a document scanning app from the appstore, but uh… I expected a teacher to show the same patience in regards to learning tech the same way they have the patience to teach class. oh well. good times.

        • @scrimshaw: They'll be the same ones that reply to an email or post in a thread by opening MS Word and typing their reply and saving it as an attachment. The reply generally contains less typing than characters used for the filename. Extra points if they zip it first.

        • @endotherm: how about the ones that print out your email, use a highlighter pen to highlight certain bits and paragraphs and come into your office to discuss the email you just sent, then go back to theirs to reply to your email. Every. Bloody. Time.

Did you try pressing CTRL+F and searching for the word unsubscribe ?

        • On what page?

          Main site page?

I tried it from the main page but nothing happens.

I've an older Macbook air if it makes any difference.

        • +2

          @Rifraf:

I mean in your emails. On each and every newsletter you receive there's usually an unsubscribe link on the end.

on a mac, you would press ⌘ + F in lieu of control +F

        • @scrimshaw:

I've found it there in all the other company emails I've received and unsubscribed today but not this company, hence my query

        • @scrimshaw:

I pressed those and a search box opened up in the top right of my screen.

I typed "unsubscribe" and clicked "done" and the box disappeared and nothing happened.

Typed it in again and hit "return" and the text blued out but nothing happened.

        • +2

@Rifraf: The email says "un-subscribe" so try searching for un-subscribe instead of unsubscribe

        • @JSQUARED: Do I push the "done" beside it to search or simply "return"?

I've tried both but nothing happens

          Actually something does happen.

A "not found" appears to the left of the search box

        • +2

@Rifraf: I'm not sure what Shopping Square email you have open, but can you confirm that it's a newsletter you have open?

If it is, then I'm not sure why you can't find an unsubscribe link but I think as the next resort, it would be fine to create a filter as altomic's suggested for the email address [email protected]. That email address looks just dedicated to newsletters and not order confirmations/purchases.

        • @JSQUARED:

Yes its headed "ShoppingSquare Newsletter<[email protected]"

and then "January Madness Clearance - Over 50 HOT Deals are BACK By Demand"

      • +3

        Newsletter.

  • -1

    Ok I'm typed out now.

Thanks for all the suggestions but I'm ready to throw the laptop at the wall.

I'll cool down and send them an email like I should have done initially.

I still have the option of blocking them as above.

  • +1

Do you have a smart phone? If you can't work out how to screenshot it, take a photo on your phone and upload it.

    • +1

After kindly being contacted by one of the above posters I forwarded the email to them.

They were able to confirm there was no "un-subscribe" within its contents.

Great idea with the smart phone by the way but I'm confident the two of us are correct and that the un-subscribe does not in this case exist.

I'll try to remember your suggestion for any further "screen shots" as I suspect its an issue with a small screened (11') Macbook Air.

When following the instructions to take said screenshot as I tried to explain, I would have needed to scroll down to see the whole email.

The Command + Shift + 4 worked until I tried to scroll lower than the screen and then it would take a snap of what was within that small area.

Too much like work and much easier to forward the email like I ddi.

      Thank you for your input

    • Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Shopping Square has a rep on OzBargain, danilochan. Maybe you could PM him for help, but he hasn't been on since mid-December.

Generally Aussie stores are good about providing links at the bottom of emails to unsubscribe.

    • Hi Greenpossum,

      Great idea, thank you.

For now I've contacted customer support.

Just to be clear, I've no issue with ShoppingSquare other than I want a break from email full stop.

I'm not currently buying anything and currently struggling to keep on top of reading all the emails I get.

They have been great regarding each and everyone of the purchases I have made from them.

      Cheers

You've pretty much described my experience with geekbuying…I was getting 4-6 SPAMs a day from various sub-lists, no amount of clicking unsubscribe would work either.

They fixed it after a tersely worded email, but that shouldn't have been necessary.

    • +1

      G'day StewBalls
Well it appears to be the "in" thing by companies.

If we don't bitch about it, nothing will change.

I don't mind an email once a week but multiple companies have been sending me multiple emails daily so I'm putting an end to it.

To be frank, for the guilty parties, its costing them my custom and not helping either of us.

I'd be much more amiable towards buying something if I didn't first have to delete umpteen emails every morning.

Some of the overseas bicycle part sellers are beyond a joke.

      • +1

Tell me about it, all these stores now having multiple mailing lists is a PITA.

    • +2

I had the same problem with Geekbuying.
Luckily I used an email alias, and once my watch arrived, I deleted it.
Hopefully now their 3-4 spam email bounces / day are damaging their email reputation.

Isnt it funny… on any site the subscribe button or link is right in your face… to unsubscribe its like finding a needle in a haystack

    • +1

Yup! Once you do find it, it also just happens to be linked to the one script on the page conveniently chock full of errors & won't run.

  • +1

Could be email is not displaying properly (image hidden etc), causing the unsubscribe button to be odd? Anything that says "show hidden images/display all images" etc?

    • I clicked "show image".

      Thank you for your idea.

I forwarded the email to one of the above posters who kindly checked it for me and confirmed it wasn't there.

The website, even once logged on has no easy to find "un-subscribe".

I've followed the instructions of those who know better than me, as above, and got a pop up message that said I had to do it via one of their emails.

I'm sure Shopping Square will respond to my email when they have had some time.

This thread wasn't made to bag them.

I was hoping it was as simple as I was too stupid to find the un-subscribe.

  • +1

Try using unroll.me for now until they respond

    • Thanks for the suggestion.

    • +1

great site, helped me unsubscribe from actual spam/phishing scam emails.

  • +5

Welcome to OzBargain… where items, discounted a few cents or dollars, from unscrupulous sellers that spam the hell out of your inbox are considered a "bargain", whereas other items that are high in demand, that sell out within minutes to hours, and could easily be resold for $100 or more profit are negged to minus infinity.

  • Company should be able to post deal

I get a million emails from Cherry Kangaroo. I don't know how it happened. I've never bought anything from their website.

They have an unsubribe in their emails but they keep coming. In fact, I think that by hitting unsubscribe, I've made it worse.

    • Oh no.

I gave them a message from within my signed on account at their web sight.
I got a prompt response assuring me, I'm unsubscribed.

      Good luck.

  • +1

Just a suggestion, try to use Gmail. By default now, it will categorise your email into Primary, Promotion, Updates and Forum. The shopping square mailing and other mailing list will be in the promotion tab automatically. I found that the Gmail algorithm is very good and only 1 of 2 error(s) which can be easily rectified by dragging the email into the correct tab. If you use bigpond, you can set it to forward to your new Gmail address so you won't missed out on any email.

    • Thanks Flickr,
I kinda already have too many email addresses.

      Appreciate your suggestion though.

I found my gmail account seemed to receive mountains of spam so I stopped using it.

Or really never used it due to getting spam right after I signed up and before I got the chance to hand out my address to anyone.

Not sure how that works but pretty much put me off using it.

I must go back and see if its still working and able to sign on.

That link won't work, thats the redirected link from the actual link that was in the email which was very different. You'll see it if you were to hover over the actual unsubscribe link and see what it said.

    G'day Mgrogan,

    Thanks heaps for the link.

It turned out I received a prompt response from the Team at ShoppingSquare.

They unsubscribed me but I'm sure others reading the link will be glad of the link if they are in a hurry.

I was taken care of promptly so I'm happy with the outcome.

Good on ShoppingSquare for a quick response and action.

    Appreciate your input though.

  • do you have trouble finding the 'any' key?

  • Glad you got it sorted…

Strange that your emails don't have the link.

In my emails from them, the unsubscribe link is at the very bottom.
