    Where is this one brewed.

Whilst I like the imported one, the Aussie not so much.

Stella was a favourite when I stayed in the UK and NZ for a spell.

Last time I was in BWS they had the brewed in UK version. I price beat with First Choice who had the brewed in Belgium bottled in Germany version.

Picked up a carton from my local BWS a couple of weeks ago at $39. Called beforehand to ask where it was brewed, guy checked and said Belgium. Rocked up and it was UK, still better than Australian brewed IMHO. Missed out on the liquorland Belgium Brew same price by one day!

Good to see it wasn't just me.

    • Anyone notice the size of cartoons are different too? Wonder if the bottle size is the same?

Am I the only one confused when people are picking differences in the brew origin of really average macro lagers? Why not try an ale with real hop characteristics if you're that fussy about taste? /hops off high horse

    • Sure! What have you got in mind at the $39 price point at a national retailer?

      • Wasn't my point.. I'd happily buy this for $39 and I upvoted the deal. I just don't know why people would choose to buy or not buy based on where it's brewed when the taste difference, on the grand scale, is minimal

Fair enough, I'm guessing that people have had bad experiences of CUB type "under licence" brewing in this country and do believe that they can tell the difference between the two.

        • +1 for expressing your view.
Not certain if it is placebo effect, Stella from Belgium does look and taste different even from a beer amateur like myself.
Blind tasting - he imported ones have a paper seal and I can down a third of a bottle from first mouth. The local Stella does not have the seal and I keep sipping slowly after the first mouth.

          @eatwell365:
I can tell the difference between the asahi in the can (brewed in Japan) and the asahi in the bottle (brewed in CHina). I'm willing to pay more for Asahi can since it taste so much better.

The taste difference for me is huge. Stella brewed in belgium is my favorite beer. When they first started brewing in the UK i thought my beer was off. Bought another case and then tried different stores before realising what the problem was.

      Peeps have different tastes.

If you blindfolded me and gave me a taste test, id call the UK version VB.

  • The deal pic looks loke a carton of Imperial Leather lol.

    $44 in SA

    • $45 in VIc. I think the deal has expired.

  • ahhh stella…."refreshingly expensive" and turns you into a (profanity)! Had the nick name wife beater when I was back in the UK. Not sure if its the same now but back then it would even turn Gandhi all agro. Nasty stuff. Taste wise I always preferred Becks or Kronenbourg 1664.

    • Yeah I know it as wife-beater
