SUNSET- The reference in saltwater fishing tackle!

Today SUNSET is one of the most appreciated brands in the world when it comes to sea fishing. Many of the company’s rods and reels are legendary and have helped many fisherman win trophies in Portugal, France, Italy, Spain, Morocco and elsewhere in the world.
The “Technifibre” TC 24 toTC40 carbon blanks, reinforced carbon on spigot joints of stainless steel joints, Titanium SIC guides or FUJI SIC are just some of the materials and components the SUNSET engineers have used to build some of the best rods for sea fishing money can buy.

The SUNTY, SUNFIGHT, SUNSHARE, SUNREEF, SUNFORCE, SUCHROME, etc. range of reels all have stainless steel ball bearings, salt resistant bodies and rotor and they are designed to fight the mightiest of the fish the ocean does have. From tuna to mulloway, GT or dogtooth tuna, queenfish, grouper, snapper- they don’t stand a chance when it comes to SUNSET gear.

  • How do these compare to a stradic or stella?

    • Hi Brink,

      Which ones?
There are a number of reels in this promotion.

      Regards,
      Adore Tackle

      • Mainly the brand in general. I noticed the DAM post the other day too. Not familiar with either or any brands on your website. (not necessarily a bad thing as I'm only familiar with local products).

What is the draw to these foreign brands over locally available ones?

        • Hi Brink,

I think it's fair to say that there are only a very limited number of brands available here, as opposed to places like the US and Europe?
We, at Adore Tackle represent exclusively a number of European brands in the Australian market.
Only top brands, mainly from Germany, France and Italy.
We'd like to believe that we offer high quality at very good prices.

Don't want to talk about specifics on any particular range from existing brands in Australia.
But what I can tell you is that SUNSET belongs to SERT, which is the biggest fishing tackle producer in France, and one of the biggest in Europe.
SUNSET is designed exclusively for saltwater fishing and its products reflect that. For boat fishing, beach ledgering/ surf casting, etc. All rods and reels are designed and engineered in France and tested by world champions in saltwater fishing so the products we offer are identical to what they use.
We have more information on our website about all these products and about this brand in particular.
Rest assured that any SUNSET product is backed by 3 years warranty and any order has 14 day free return guarantee.

If you want other details, or other specifics about a certain product or range, happy to assist.

          Regards,

    • You get what you pay for, I own a couple of Stratic Ci4 and they are worth every cent (Voted best reel for price 2016). In your question about Stella's, it's voted as reel of the year a couple of times which is why they are expensive and cost $800+ (my dream reel). These guys reels would have nothing on the Stella, I really mean NOTHING.

Trust in Japanese fishing gear, I would never buy anything else. I love my Shimano and would recommend you buy the brand, I would also recommend Daiwa as they are highly recommended. Their "Dog fight" series are the top of the range reels just like Stella's but just didnt cut reel of the year.

Head over to the Shimano fishing conventions when they are on or simply to your tournament gear fishing shop and play around with the reels. You need to physically play around with the all the features and feel the drags and ball bearing in action. I wouldn't waste my time with these guys, my local tournament fishing shops don't stock these guys gear and they have everything, I haven't even heard of these guys let alone my competitive fishermen buddies. If they were world renowned, my local stores and magazines would be raving about their gear. Another positive note on buying at your local fishing shop, they can service your reel and with parts widely available you dont have to worry. Plus there's the replacement without postage.

If you just wanted cheap gear and not brand orientated, I would recommend going to Big W, Kmart, BCF, Ray's outdoor or Anaconda. Not the greatest in build quality but does the job. You also have entry-level Jarvis Walker, Shimano and Daiwa rod/reel combos to consider.

This is just my personal opinion and if you get this "Sunset" brand is purely up to you. Their gear may be decent from a quick overview from their website but without physically playing around it's just specs on paper. Sure, you can add heaps of Ball bearings but if the gears are crap, makes no difference. I just wanted to save you the dramas, if someone was recommending this brand to a friend, I would steer them away.

The fact that the rep has no clue as to what Stratic and Stella (Competitors model reels) concerns me as they are world renowned models in the fishing business, especially the Stella's.

"Today SUNSET is one of the most appreciated brands in the world when it comes to sea fishing."

Last time I checked, it has always been Shimano and Daiwa, especially in most if not all charter boat fishing not just in Australia but internationally world wide.

@brink Hit me a PM if you are interested in some information about gear and need some advice, I can point you in the right direction.

PS, last fishing post I replied to REP wasn't happy on constructive feedback. Please let me say that it's nothing personal, I just hate people stepping into the fishing world without any knowledge on the current brands. I just want what's best for the Ozbargain community as they have save me a lot of money on my purchases.

Negging this as I don't find it as a deal, more of a marketing strategy to get their brand name out to the public.

        Hello Johnny-Kun,

I can assure you this is the first time I have had a reply from you. You must have confused us with someone else. Not sure why you have voted negatively on this promotion either. It is obvious you swear by some brands and we respect that. You need to know that in Europe at least, people trust these other brands and they are exactly as represented here. We do not represent cheap junk, everything we sell is top quality.
I declined to comment on other Japanese brands products not because I don't know about those, but it is not professional for me to do so.
Now- for your information, SUNSET team has won the 2015 international surf fishing championship in Portugal, and many team members test any new and upcoming equipment from the brand. I know you would be impressed should you try one. After all, at this stage it is all perception, so I would be happy to help you understand more about this brand or others that we have in stock.
Please understand also that we do not want to end up in a dispute with anyone here and we respect everyone's views and opinions, so we are not going to discuss more on the matter.

        Respectfully,
        Adore Tackle

        • All good buddy, If I can get my hands on these I will try them out first.

Just wanted to put my own opinion that's all :)

I was just pointing out, a while back there was a rep from a different company who didn't like my input that's all, should have worded it better -_-

        • No worries. Can we now ask for a positive vote please? It will help our store remain relevant to Ozbargain and post many more offers.

          Thank you,
          Adore Tackle

      • the Saltiga Dogfight is just the top size (8000) available for normal Saltiga range. The other Saltiga range that has 8000 size is the Saltiga Expedition…

Stella and Saltiga are equal IMO, Stella probably has bigger size options up to 20000 size, but if you're targeting barrel Tuna, Marlin, sharks etc..better to use overhead tiagras…

I noticed some of the DAM steelpower surf rods look similar to my daiwa ballistic surf rod…not sure about the performance tho, never own one..but would love to get one in the future

        • We'd love to see you using a D.A.M rod. You'll be most impressed for sure.
Unfortunately we won't be able to post any more deals for a while because we have not received enough positive votes, and this counts on Ozbargain.
We will try to be relevant and offer other deals and discount somewhere else for the next couple of weeks.

Thank you for all your support.

          Regards,
          Adore Tackle

  • What qualities/components does/should one look for in the reels?

    • Hello Visca,

There are a number of things you need to consider when you want to buy a reel. Do you want a sidecast, spinning (threadline), casting/baitcasting, fly fishing or trolling reel?
Whatever your option, you need to look for things such as reel body material, number of ball bearings, material/ type of shaft, type of spool, recovery speed and size.
Most reels out there might have the reel body made out of metal/aluminium/alloy/hybrid/carbon/plastic, usually 3 or more ball bearings will be good; size and speed are usually dependent on target species/type of fishing.
I would stay away from plastic bodies and handle, but all in all depends on what you're after.

If you'd let me know what you want to get in a reel, I might be able to point you in the right direction.

      Thank you.

      Regards,
      Adore Tackle

      • Thanks mate, not a frequent fisher so when ever I go back to it I find the reel locked, rasted or whatever even though I make the point of cleaning it after use. Perhaps a bit of lubrication would come in handy but things should last a bit longer. I wouldn't consider myself as being a serious fisherman. Any suggestions would be great. Tks

        • Ok, not sure what reel you might have- but from what you have described seems to be rust that might've blocked one bearing or the shaft got stuck. Most likely is because of saltwater. You might be surprised what some splashes of saltwater can do to a normal reel. Another thing that could've affected your reel is sand. Not saying that you did it- but you might've left for a little bit your rod and reel laying on the sand, just to pick it up later on, "dusting" it off, and using it again. There could be many reasons.
What I would do, I would open it up to have a look if it's rust. If it is, try to clean it up using fresh water, let it dry out and then use some special oil or grease to lubricate every part (including the ball bearings- if it has any, but only after you cleaned up the old). Then try to see if the ball bearings are working OK or you need to change any. If you need to change anything else you might want to talk to the original equipment manufacturer for some spare parts.
As for new reels. If you use them for saltwater fishing, I would use reels that are designed for that sort of fishing. What you need to look for is: stainless steel, double sealed bearings, stainless steel screws or completely sealed body, saltwater resistant, etc.
Nevertheless, please remember- if you want your reel to last many seasons- you need to do just three things: avoid dropping the reel in the sand ( unless you have a sidecast), always wash your reel with freshwater- after every use ( every time you get back from a fishing trip, wash thoroughly your reel using freshwater). Then, every six months or so, you should also use special purpose grease to lubricate your reel (replace old with new ). You need to do that because in time- sand and dust will take care of any existing grease.
Anyway- that should keep your reel in tip top shape for years to come.

          Hope that this helps.

          Regards,
          Adore Tackle

        • Thanks mate I am sure it's combination of poor quality and the user. I'll have a look at your products.

        • No worries.
If you are looking for general purpose fishing, I would look at a D.A.M. NEO Spinning rod, and couple that with a Quick Dragger or Quick Ammo reel. If you want a small, excellent (German made) reel, I would go for the Quick Retro. Or stick to the SUNSET range with SUNFIGHT, SUNBEACH or SUNSHARE reels and couple any of those with a Flexisense (boat) or Magica Power (surf). All these are excellent choices, and for a limited time only you have some significant discount coupons that you can use on any.
If you want any other information about any other product in particular, or if you have any other issues or concerns please let me know. Happy to assist.

          Thank you again.

          Regards,
          Adore Tackle

Just to add to the valid points made on the tackle available from this store by previous posters.

SUNSET is French company, DAM & Balzer are both German companies, DAM has been around for a very long time though went through a bad patch during the 90's and are quite common in Europe i had some of their rods and reels from when they used to still be made in Germany. But i believe, like a lot of companies now, most of their stuff is OEM made tackle from Asia.
The only experience i have with Balzer is a 4 piece spinning rod i bought about 15yrs ago when living in Europe and it's still going strong. Broke a section one time (my fault) and they replaced it without hassle. Only paid for postage.

The comment on local tournament shops not stocking any of these brands is a bit hit and miss as Australia is a small market, so just because your local tournament buddy hasn't heard of them doesn't mean they aren't big somewhere else.
Go to Europe and you'll see local and international tournament fishermen using brands you would never have heard about before, i have a surf casting rod rated as one of the best there is, which i had to buy from the UK because no one stocks it here in Australia. Different tackle aimed at different markets.

A European store like http://www.askari-fishing.com/ lists couple of the brands from OP's store but i haven't searched fully through the site for price or model comparisons.

Going away from the original post but an interesting article for the fishermen on here by Alan Hawk on an old original DAM reel which gives you an idea what DAM reels from the past where like http://www.alanhawk.com/reviews/quk51.html

But like everything 'Buyer Beware' and with fishing tackle do your research.

Also I don't know the OP or have heard about adore tackle before now.

    • Hello CheapGit,

Thank you for clarifying to the Ozbargain community who Sunset, D.A.M. and Balzer are.
If you want some "Made in Germany" rods, I can recommend you SPORTEX. We stock some ranges, and another shipment is coming soon. Let me know if you want to have more info. Also COLMIC manufactures exclusively (not OEM)in Italy and Japan. For surf, COLMIC has the Zero-Seven rods which are cult objects in Europe and Americas. We do not stock them currently because their RRP is more than 1000AU$, and the market is not educated on what these brands are. Special orders can be made for clients though…
For SPORTEX we do have the Magnus Surf rods which are rated as one of the best in the world, Helicore technology, HMC80 carbon blanks, etc. SPORTEX rods are not your off-the-peg normal mass manufactured rods, every rod is slightly different than its peer from the same range, and they have 10 year blank warranty.
Those are just two examples of absolute top quality that we do have at Adore Tackle.
Of course there will always be haters and people that know best.
We respect them and we hope that one day they will give us a chance to see that what we offer is not lower quality than what they use. But in many cases, better.

      Thank you again.

      Regards,
      Adore Tackle

    • Yep, I know the Australian fishing market is quite small. Never been to Europe so I wouldn't have a clue in regards to what they use. Only ever fished/conventions in Japan and my fishing buddies have been to USA for fishing/conventions.

I believe that Japan has the big market everywhere from reading articles and so on.

I'll keep your thoughtful input for future notice, still have to go to Europe one day and fish/explore tackle shops.

      • Johnny-Kun some of the Europeans like fishing with 16m long carbon poles with no guides and worth a few thousand dollars just to catch fish smaller than a mulie LoL :-)

        • it's also popular in Japan…they call it Tanago fishing…the aim is to catch the smallest fish possible…not an easy task if you think about it
