Not a great deal, this TV has been this price or lower many times. Wait for the next Good Guys sale or see if they have it at Costco for cheaper if you're considering getting this.

X8000d is better for HDR and had proper wide colour gamut this one I dont think does.

      • +1

According to rtings, the x7000d (x700) has a better angle-view than the newer x8000d. But the blacks are not that great.

        • Yeah that's the thing but since its right in front of my bed I skipped that. Still pretty good mkdel.

      • Is the X8000d still available in Australia? I haven't been able to find it anywhere except the Sony Store where it is ~$1800 (for the 43").

I only started looking for a TV in the last few weeks and would prefer the X8000d, so I was pretty annoyed when I saw that Sony Store Boxing Day sale where it was super cheap!

        • Sony store has had the X8000D or bargain sail once every ~6 weeks for $999 for the 49" and iirc $799 for the 43"

        • @Phoebus: Ahh, thanks for that info, I will wait until it goes on sale again then! Everything I've seen suggests the x8000d is the better model on the whole.

        • I bought one during Christmas for $999 and it got delivered at around 15/01.

          Very happy with the purchase.

XB1S indicates HDR10 has been activated. Movie is very sharp and clear.

The only drawback is you really need 2 people to lift the panel with care - they get only 1cm border and there is no place to grab.

        • @kylev13: hopefully it will look out mid year too cos new models were announced in January and should Be more mid year so they willing want to clear their stock.

        • @bjdchwr: same here but got the 43 inch for my bedroom. Lifted myself but let it drop slowly onto the bed haha. Thinking now it would have been absolutely humongous but should have got the 49er.

HDR10 movies look stunning, dont have a 4K blu ray player but pushing the movies thru USB Hard drive.

@adrianhughes1998: Hmm, OK. I noticed lots of the Sony TVs are on sale at the Sony Store, except for the x8000d. :(

        • @kylev13: just wait and hopefully it wil come up. If not you still get a good deal on this year's models around Christmas. Sony always likes to clear models around then.

      • Hi again,

I went to JB Hi Fi to have a look at the x7000d and check out the picture quality.

The quality was not that great, but the guy at the store said it was because they had it connected to component video rather than HDMI (pretty sure it was component, he might have said composite though…)

Is that a legitimate thing? He said the quality was much better for SD free-to-air, but I wanted to check that he wasn't just flat out trying to sell me a load of rubbish! From the quick research I did online it seems like component should be able to deliver the same quality/resolution signal as HDMI would?

Unless he was just saying the actual source was terrible, but that seems unlikely. Bah!

Thanks for any help you can offer!

  • Whats a good bargain price for a (Sony/LG/Sansung) Smart TV this size ? Don't need 4K

  • +5

Less than a week ago I started waiting on a deal for this. As for the price, its about 45% off the price on the Sony store. More than acceptable.

    • +1

But it's an outdated model. They've had the newer 49x8000d on sale for $999 in November and December last year. That was 52% off. I don't think the current price is that spectacular. New Bravia's will be announced soon.

      • Is it likely that the Sony Store will have another sale like that on the x8000d in the near future?

Do you think the announcement of the new Bravias will drop the prices?

        • I bought this item and so far very happy. I'm not sure the difference between this and another model would pay off at all.

  • No 3D?

damn shame, what am I going to do with all my 3D blu rays?

        • Don't worry there are still many 3D tvs currently in the market its just LG and Sony won't be making 3D tvs any more. As far as your first question goes this TV x7000D is not 3D capable it is just a good budget HDR10 UHD tv for a good price. =)

        • +2

          @YousufEDGE:

thanks mate, when I upgrade the 3D projector I hope LG still make a nice OLED 3D TV. I feel like I'm the only one that loves the 3D effect :-(

        • Same thing Ive done with the glasses? Never been out of the box, not once. Dont even know if they work. TV came with 4 pairs as a bonus IIRC.

      • 3D didn't take off because the home experience/technology was so low, crosstalk, ghosting, eye strain, etc. Now that 4K is here high quality 3D (passive 3D in 1080p) is just now possible at a reasonable price. The industry jumped the gun on 3D. They needed to have waiting till the cinema experience was mature and the technology was there to make 3D in homes an enjoyable experience.

I don't NEED a 4k tv right now so I'm holding off till my perfect TV comes around. A TV for gaming with low lag, 10bit HDR, passive 3D and all the other stuff like colour range, backlight bleed, blacks, etc. And it has to be 49/50" to perfectly fit my custom TV/entertainment unit.

      • @ YousfEDGE, 3D was never alive

  • Much point in 4k at this size?

    • -5

      Nope 65' or don't bother

    • +1

For smaller gaming setups yes 👌🏻

    • Depends on the room size etc

      • Yea if you sit couple of feet from the screen

  • +3

How does this compare to the equivalent Hisense 50" 50K3300UW?

If any Costco stores still have these in stock they are $799

  • Look at the reviews online this panel doesn't show black very well (looks more like grey) - I was pretty disappointed.

  • Would this go well with gaming on a pc

    • +2

For the price/range its one of the better ones for gaming.
      http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x700d

      • Can you make a gaming tv recommendation for 55" and 65"?

Considering trying to look for some of the previous deals we had earlier nearer to the new year and December or finding a true perfect one.

65" 4k tv with decent amount of low response input time for gaming but but a big issue or deal breaker mainly looking for just a budget panel.

  • For those of you who care, this is equipped with Motionflow XR200 (which is 100Htz). I would personally save a bit more and consider getting a TV with 200Htz.

    • +2

Really? I think Sony TVs perform really well with their lowish refresh panels. I've seen 50Hz Bravias with better picture quality (even with sports) compared to some 200Hz TVs. Now I'm not saying 50Hz is enough for a big TV but depending on what you're going to use it for, 100Hz with motionflow should be fine.

      • U sure? I bought a 40"@ 50Hz (when I went interstate for a 6 mth assignment) and my eyes hurt after a while watching it. Note: The existing TV I had at home was 200Hz.

  • I recently bought the 8000 version of this when Sony had it for $999. While the picture is great for proper HD content, it isn't great for SD or Foxtel HD content. The remote and OS are also crap compared to the current Samsung remote and OS. If I had my time over again, I probably would have gone for the Samsung as the reviews for both were pretty similar but for me the OS and remote for Samsung swings it their way.

    • Yeah the remote isn't the best. Personally, I think SD and (Foxtel) HD content looks great. What is it you don't like about Android Tv? I like the Chomecast built-in thing and can't fault the apps so keen to hear what makes you prefer Samsung!

      • +1

        Samsung:
        - Seems faster - talking about the whole TV OS, not just the app store
        - Better organized and more intuitive - talking about the whole TV OS, not just the app store
        - Has in built stan app. Can't download one on sony - have to cast from ipad / iPhone.
        - Has in built Foxtel Play app

I expected a lot more in the google app store but it seems very cut down in terms of what is available - 2 examples above.

  • X7000D/X8000D have been this price for a few months. While I don't think this is a bargain, the TV is good enough for HDR content & gaming. Of course, you can fork out $2000 then Samsung KS8000/KS9000, then you'd be better off with Samsung.

  • Same price at JB Hi-Fi. Got an email about it this morning.

I actually bought one last Saturday for $1300 so I was quite pleased to walk back in to HN and get a refund for the difference :) Quite a nice TV!

  • I have the 55" version, such a great TV for the price

  • +1

Now in Sony store as well along with a few other models
