Help Choosing Coffee Pod Machine

Hey guys, I was going to look at all the different pod machines and all the different features and I figured heaps of people on here have done it already. Can anyone impart some knowledge to me?

cheap pod cost
if possible refillable (not a big deal)
non-patented pod design so I can pick up 3rd party pods that are compatible

I'm happy to pay $1 per cup or less, so I guess if that's not possible I'm happy to just not get one.

As the owner of half a dozen assorted pod machines, and having a large selection of pods purchased on the cheap, and some attempts at refillables, my honest suggestion would be none of them.

Just pony up a few extra bucks for a machine that uses beans, trust me! ;)

Get the Aldi one. Family has a few of them ( I don't) and they all work fine. The coffee tastes ok too (you have to buy Aldi pods but Aldi has a heap of coffee types and they are cheap).
If you don't like it you can return within 60 days.

    • You can also use woollies pods, moccona pods, and Gloria jeans pods in aldi machines, just not the other way round (aldi pods in woollies machines). Occasionally they get stuck but a quick flick and they pop out,. that said, the aldi coffee is ok tasting as long as you don't double shot it and it's about 37c a cup, which is fine for what it is. Never be as good as fresh beans but if that's what you want you'd never drink pod coffee! better than instant by a mile!. Got 2 Aldi's, one for home one for work ,workmates love it too!

Nespresso Prodigio for $100 after cashback was an amazing deal and you can use lor pods for 30 cents each when on special.. Otherwise go Aldi machine. But I agree with Stewballs, stick with a manual machine or just use French press if you like good coffee. Pod machines are for convenience.

  • Yeah I'm pretty much seeking a pod machine for convenience. I live in QLD so we don't get ALDI (should have clarified). I'll have a look at the Nespresso Prodigio.

    • Plenty of aldi stores in qld

      • Oh Ok, my bad. We don't have any in Cairns, last I heard they weren't planning on coming up here.

Cheaper and more flavoursome drinking cat pee.

My god that stuff is dreadful.

I bought the caffately I think its called first and then the nespresso.

Both long in the bin and I now simply use a french press.
(the glass beaker with the filter you press down to the bottom after giving some minutes to extract the flavour.

No its not as good as the proper coffee machine in the cafe', but its miles ahead of the capsule coffee or instant.

Yes I tried the different available brands and strengths and came to the conclusion that in my opinion they were bloody awful.

    Your mileage may vary.

I would suggest getting a delonghi that has a basket that can use ESE Pods.
ESE pods are somewhat better for the environment…

Also delonghi machines usually come with other baskets which gives you an option going forward to use ground coffee etc.

    Failing all of that. Aeropress.

  • We ended up with a Vittoria one from Woolworths, which was free when we bought 5 packets of pods (so a machine and 60 pods for about $40)

They only take specific pods from Vittoria, but they're regularly half price anyway. Machine satisfactorily does the job :)

  • Personal favourite pods is the red moccona one using the caffitaly system. Goes really well with the unsweetened almond milk from almond breeze.

  • I've had two Woolworths Caffitaly machines over 3 years and have recently switched to a Nespresso Pixie.

I can tell you Nespresso is a superior machine.

  • I purchased the Nespresso Delonghi prodigio and milk from the good guys over xmas. $169 (Was $399) with either a $70 cashback or $100 of free coffe pods from Nespresso. I dont use the bluetooth becasue it is kind of pointless but is easy to use and clean.

A pod from nespresso can range from 40c - $1.10 each (in packs of 10).

3rd party: I also get pods from the coffee pod shop. With coupons can get them as cheap as 30 cents a pod + free shipping and they taste just as good. I seems to get less coffee out of woolworths coffee pods but they taste alright and are always on sale around $3 for 10.

i know people at work who grind their coffee into reusable pods which are nespresso compatable so that is an option but thats effort and i dont want to buy a grinder or lids for the reusable pods.

  • Aeropress! Tastier… cheaper… Better for the environment.. Easy to clean.
