New Dell XPS 15 9560 or Larger rMB 12" with 512GB 2016

Stuck between grabbing the Dell XPS New 9560 (2000) or Macbook 12"2016 (1480)

I know both are totally different worlds but what's your opinion on all the issues dell's XPS has been facing and which would you get?

+Dell - more ram and better internals (long run) -Dell but thermal and noise issues in the long run too….

+rMB - No fan, quiet, slim, battery life decent for size -rMB only 8gb ram capacity

  • What are you needing one for, that may help you decide.

    • im indecisive, i wont be doing anything intensive graphics wise however I do tend to run excessive chrome tabs which loves ram. its just easier having tabs left open so that theyre there.

Ive had the mac prior but sold it at the time..no issues otherwise…

im worried about buying my first dell and experiencing its myriad of issues but what ive read on its battery life and display is amazing.

Its kinda like i dont wanna spend 2.5k and be disappointed with it even though i really want it.
Yes the mac is amazing it suits my needs BUT the ram usage is späz

The dell would be perfect if i was lucky and got one with no major issues and coil whine…id buy in a heartbeat

      • I have had a few dells and have had no problems at all. Last dell was a refurb from dell and saved heaps.

      • If you like the mac, why not look at similar other brands and compare them?

        • I like macs ecosystem which just works but prefer windows…and i guess having used fanless…if only they had such a formfactor with 16gb ram

What other brands or models in your opinion are decent anymore or can compare against.

        • @jnathanc:
I though HP and Lenovo have fanless models, fan less are very low powered though ( including the mac) that maybe why ram is not high too.

        • i know have the new spectre x360 2017…lenovo appparently arent good quality wise…waa interested initially in their yoga 910

        • @jnathanc:
This Acer is meant to be good from what I read somewhere.
          Great look too.

Or look at the 13 inch dell xps.

        • @PVA: the 13 has the majority of the issues ahaha.

no backlit on the acer ….

if you had to buy what would you do? go back to what your comfortable with and control tabs or take a hit and see what the hypes all about despite the issues?

        • @jnathanc:
I like the look of the mac book but it's too small for me. I have a 15 inch dell and it's great.

I think because the dell xps is so popular you only hear of problems ( people complain but don't post if there's no problems). The xps 13 is great as far as I can read and the extra 1.3 inches for screen is huge but overall size is similar to Apple air 11 inch.

To be honest, I would be looking at a surface 4 or a HP if I was after a new pc now.

The MacBook and Acer looks good but I think it is too low on performance, especially for the price.
Have a check at whirlpool forums and see what they think ( and try to stay out of the windows/ OS X wars 😀)

  • Honestly decide what system you want first - then shop for models
I suggest if you are torn then you aren't committed to OSX
For what it's worth Chrome since v56 is using less ram (on windows, I presume OSX too)
On the same front - there is a big diefference between 12" and 15" machines - ultrabook vs laptop
Pick the 'useable' size you want - trial in store or something

Anyway we can't offer objective opinions when OS and size are undecided

  • Alright guys,

Found the HP SPECTRE X360 2017..

    Thoughts?

Prefer windows for flexibility and choice of systems. Size preferable is 13-15"

    • I had this laptop and returned it due to the heat generated.

Found it was getting quite hot in the top left hand corner of keyboard. I also have my laptop closed for a lot of the time at work as it is hooked up to a monitor. I was concerned about the heat damaging the screen.

Other than the heat, I thought it was a great laptop. Nice specs, design and form factor.

      • I have a few colleagues who also have owned the spectre recently and state the exact same issue.
