    Decent phone but bad battery.

    • +2

So many down boats but I own this phone and I also had the 5. I found the 5 superior for this exact reason.

    • +2

Sadly this is true and well documented. The battery has gone to shit in less than a year. Otherwise, excellent phone.

    • +1

Yea I tend to agree, I have one. Good overall, but not as good as the Nexus 5 was for its time.

      • +1

My nexus 5x was a piece of crap, and i would highly not recommend.

        • Why aren't all negging this deal then?

        • +4

          @abacus:
because a poor product doesn't mean it still isn't a good price for said poor product…

        • Having gone from a g4 to a nexus 5x, i found the disparity of speed for normal usage, huge!. The G4 is already an outdated phone too. The nexus 5x screen was also too small and would hurt my eyes. I still have the G4 but will be going to a samsung S8 when released hopefully or a Motorola.

I have to agree, picked this up at DWI for the same price about a year ago ($349) and with all the battery optimizations on and dozzer running, normal use (2-3~ hours screen on useage at nearly lowest brightness) I'm very lucky to make it to the end of the day if fully charged in the morning.

OTHER than that, I absolutely love it, will probably stay using it till its dead.. Never had a bootloop problem or anything alike.

    • Agree, I like this phone. Battery could be better, but at least it can 'rapid charge'. Got one of the Xiaomi powerbanks to help on flights and camping trips.

Just tried a couple of Melbourne (north) stores, nothing in computer or on floor.

  • EOL is it not? Nougat the last update for it?

    • that's the thing about Nexus phones, my Nexus 4 is running on Nougat :D

      • I thought they officially stopped the Nexus 4 support a year or two ago? Unofficial ROM right?

        • Definitely. Officially, the N4 never went past Lollipop

        • @GreenGuava: yeah it's an AOSP fork (PureNexus), but hey, it works just as well and I can't notice any lags at all.

        • @enzioFirenze: Oh no, I didn't mean it in a negative sense. I'm a big fan of custom ROMs, as well as the N4 :)

"Guaranteed" (at least according to Google) Android version up till September 2017, one more year after that for security patches (since they guarantee 3 years of security patches).

    I'd be concerned about bootloops

    Saw this deal (I own a N5x) and have owned a 5.
I'd say that the slightly worse battery life is offset by the fast charging (3x faster) than the Nexus 5.

Got mine used (2-3 months) with cases and a tempered screen protector for $260 around a month ago. Still can't complain.

VERY good phone for anyone wanting a cheap but fast/fully featured phone.

Also the front speaker is nice, coming from a Nexus 5 and the front camera being 5mp makes selfies amazing if you're one of those people.

    • Samples of front facing selfies? Cute blondes in toe?

      • +2

        Haha, nice try. :p

      • I hope you mean in tow…I don't care if you have a foot fetish. Whatever floats your boat. But how did you fit blonde girls in your toe?

  • Also the link goes to just the office works website for me. If I search for "Nexus 5x" it just comes up with a glass screen protector.

    • They don't have it online and the link was required field, hence main Officeworks website.

  • I'd be warry about the 5X, personally I was really interested but after visiting a few forums, they say the 5X has actually been discontinued and does not receive support by LG.

They don't even make parts for it (like screens etc). The phones dead in the water. Also 350 is a decent amount of money nowadays for a mid range phone, the 5X only has 2GB of ram and horrible battery.

The One plus 3 is far better value in my opinion, doesn't have local support either, but it's an incredible phone.

    • Haven't tried the One Plus 3 so can't sompare, but have had the 5x for a month, and I absolutely love it.
Having come from owning 2 Nexus 5's, both which suffered from crazy screens, and then a DTEK50, I find the 5x to be fantastic.
Have had no issues with the battery whatsoever, lasts two days and love the fast charging.

$350 is roughly what they were charging for the Nexus 4 when it first came out, so to get a superior model with improvements is still pretty good.

The previous models (4&5)had battery issues if you used the Qi chargers apparently, so seems to be a constant issue with the model, but in a years time, who cares ?

    • +6

Where can you find a One Plus 3 for $350?

      • Nowhere.

    • They don't even make parts for it (like screens etc)

Bollocks. There are an abundance of spare parts available online.

The phones dead in the water.

Perhaps, but any phone will not be healthy after a brief dunk in the drink.

the 5X only has 2GB of ram and horrible battery.

This is subjective to the user/owner, my N5X gets decent battery life and the RAM is manageable.

    • +1
      • They still make parts because i just got the screen replaced
      • Not sure what you mean by the phone is dead.. it still gets updated.
      • I'll like to see any phone in the $350 compare to 5x. You can't beat a pure stock Android phone on that price range really.
      • Speaking of One plus 3, feel free to link where we can get one for $350, don't forget One plus 3 won't even get OS upgrades as fast as 5x.

I see a lot of people complaining about the 5x and honestly speaking i've never had any issues with it. Battery lasts a whole day for me though i don't play games on it. Only really do email and Facebook. No loop boot issues. Only issue i've had that wasn't my fault is that the loud speaker module went faulty but that was a cheap fix.

Whenever I see LG, I think of my poor G4 bootlooping. RIP G4 :(. Never LG again.

    • +1

Just waiting for the inevitable to happen to my nexus5x :(

      • Me 2. On my 3rd. (Other 2 didn't boot loop. They lost bluetooth and wifi).

  • +1

This or the Motorola G4 plus better?

    • +1

I'd go for the G4 Plus. It has a slightly bigger screen (5.5 vs 5.2), it's newer, has an extra GB of RAM (3GB vs 2GB) which makes a big difference in usability, generally more future proof and probably reliable with bootloop fears; it also has dual sim, micro SD slot & slightly bigger battery. As long as you are okay with no NFC and from previous comments/feedback I've read the Nexus 5X has a better camera than the G4 Plus in certain situations at least.

      • +2

Thanks for your input. I think the main thing is the Motorola would bootloop but I also hear it can get overheat. Nexus 5x is an LG product. I owned a LG G4 before and it bootloop after eight months. Left me a very bad taste. I sworn never LG again

    • I actually bought G4 Plus just last week for my wife and had a chance to play with it. It's a great phone, Mobilecity probably sells them for least (in Australia).

It really depends on what you are after. She needed a larger screen (movies, etc) so G4 Plus was great fit. I needed something convenient to carry around for email/phone and would prefer a smaller size.

    • Am looking for a new phone and the camera is the most important feature for me. Which would you recommend out of Nexus 5X, Moto G4 Plus and Galaxy S5?

  • Good price but it's a bit of a shame it's not as cheap as it was at Warehouse stationary in nz late last year ($300)

  • Pros: The camera is very good, its nice and light, fingerprint unlock is fast, fast charging, NFC, USB C, Band 28, Australian warranty, runs Android Nougat.
Cons: Only single front facing speaker, only 2GB of RAM, battery could be bigger, no double tap to wake, plastic body, sim tray and buttons can feel a bit cheap, only gorilla glass 3.

Word of warning. I've got a nexus 6p, cracked the screen the other day and am struggling to find quotes to fix it for less than $250ish. Not sure if it's the same with this one. If anyone knows where I can get in done cheaper (In Perth) please let me know 😀

    • Mine cost $220 in Melbourne purely for the reason that the phones are not as common as iPhones so repairers do not carry the stock or they are harder to come by.

  • Have the Nexus 5X its a fantastic phone, however the battery does suck and with 2GB of RAM especially with times going forward it is slowing down quite heavily for me

  • For general phone use the 5x has been great. As a music player it is very ordinary. Playing music through an AUX cable the sound is half the volume as an apple phone.

  • For me the battery life is decent, I make it to the end of the day with 20-35% left with moderate use.

The speaker is really crap and there's the issue of bootloops. Other than that, decent phone.

  • I am also someone that has gone from the Nexus 5 to 5x.
I quite like the phone. I find it to be fast. I like the screen, USB C, fingerprint unlock. Easy to root. In terms of battery life, I am finding it better than the 5. With the 5 I struggled to get a day out of it, even after replacing the battery. With the 5x I can get more than a day (but not 2 full days). I am not a heavy user though.
Wireless charging would have been nice. Personally I prefer the smaller size of the 5. The 5x just feels to big in the pocket for me.
I know of someone in a country area that went from 5 to 5x and found the reception capability to be worse (despite the fact that more bands are supported).
I think $350 for Aussie stock is a very good price.

LG = bootloop! You've been warned!

    • .. Yep.. no mention of this anywhere else in the thread at all /s

    • +2

I've owned 3 LG-based phones of different models (nexus 4, 5, 5x), and have never experienced this bootloop myself.

    • Not just LG but Huawei as well. Both Nexus phones

  • +1

Unfortunately I am going to have to issue a public warning about this phone and the Nexus 6P. Currently there is a massive hard ware issue caused by the noughat update on these two phones which causes a google boot loop.

There is an open case with Google who are handling the issue very poorly in my opinion. My 6P died on Christmas day and fortunately I was still under warranty. A link to the case is here

    https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?can=2&start=…

and some users have even started taking names for a class action law suit

    https://www.change.org/p/google-inc-please-release-a-stateme…

  • Never had a bootloop issue with any of my Nexus phones. Since i use mine for work i don't have junk software/games on it. My battery also lasts way longer than my 5, can get a day easily till 11pm and still have 25% battery.

    • +1

Just wait until you get your hands on LG phone

  • My 5x is a LG phone

  • Tried Melbourne city stores, none left. Anyone else have any luck in Melbourne?

    • Have called a few in the SE — Dande, Narre Warren, Pakenham, no luck. Might be best to do a bit of a ring around and see how you go.
