Which Xiaomi Phone?

Looking to buy an Android phone for around $300. I'm thinking a Xiaomi but theres so many different models that i'm not sure which one to go with.

I also don't know which version to buy.

Coming from a kogan phone so my only needs are good reliability, fastest performance, battery and camera if I can. For under $300

Redmi note 3 or 4 are very good for the money. Excellent build quilty and performance. You can get a Redmi note 4 for a little over $200 with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage (can use SD card also). There's also a 64GB model for a bit more.

I've just ordered a new note 4 as I smashed the screen on my current one last week. Paid about $215 through Ali express, although I will have to wait a while for delivery. You can pay extra for express delivery. Mine still works ok despite the damage so I can wait.

    • Is a Redmi note the same as a Redmi pro ?

      • No, Redmi pro is the next model up and has a dual camera type set up at the back. Costs a bit more too. Not sure how good/how much better than the note 4 the pro camera is. I've found the camera on the note 4 to be perfectly ok for regular snaps, facebook/instagram stuff etc, which is what most people use mobile cameras for.

I agree with you that the model names are confusing!

    • I second the Redmi Note 4. Had mine for about a month now. Love it. The screen is super clear and bright, and I've never had any issues running any apps.

      • Tossing up now between the Redmi note 4 Pro and Mi5.

Just have to decide if it's worth spending the extra money for the Mi5.

        • There are some reviews on Youtube showing the differences between the two, but I think the Mi5S's camera is a lot better, so if taking photos means a lot to you, then the Mi5S will be better. I can tell you that the camera on the Note 4 is not great. It will work OK if it's outdoor in good lighting, but I find even if I take a photo inside when it's a bit dim, the photos come out grainy. I don't really care as I don't really post a lot of photos online. Most of the photos I post are taken with the DSLR after processing.

        • @jerrizhao:

I'm leaning more towards the Mi5s for the increase in power but it just depends where I can get a global rom version for an affordable price.

        • @sshazam: Even if you get one with the local Chinese Rom, you can just download the global rom and flash it in. There are heaps of instructions online on how to do it.

or, just throwing this out here, PPTV king 7 here is bit of a write up about it from a user here

    6 Inch 2.5d 3GB RAM 32GB ROM(expandable) Helio X10 Octa Core 2.0GHz 4G Smartphone

banggood are selling it for AU$150 delivered - i haven't really looked any where else or for coupons for a better price

    • That does look amazing value, if you are ok with the screen size.

    • You are a legend. Exactly what I'm after… just smashed my Yotaphone2 screen :(

      Imma pullin the trigger

  • The Note 3 Pro Special Edition comes with all the relevant network bands, some of the others are missing some bands

Moto G4 plus around $350, best stock android phone you can find out there, has flagship components for cheap price, xiaomi mi5 definitely worth it, can find for around $300 on aliexpress which top of the line parts, great camera and snapdragon 820. Up to you but recommend both of these.

  • Where are all the phones with removeable batteries (backs)? I can't stand sealed phones.
Seems pointless when you put a cover on your phone anyway.
